Commencement and the Senior All Night Party will mark the culmination of these activities and will take place on Wednesday, June 5th. ROCHESTER HIGH SCHOOL JUNE 5TH GRADUATION INFORMATION WHERE IS IT LOCATED? Ultimate Soccer Arena, 867 South Boulevard, Pontiac 4834 ( WHAT TIME DO WE GET THERE? Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Students need to arrive by 6:30 p.m. Parents, please finish taking pre-ceremony pictures by 6:45 p.m. so the ceremony can begin on time. Students need to be at the designated lineup area by 7:00 p.m. WHERE DO WE PARK? On the day of the event, the only vehicles that will be allowed into Ultimate Soccer s front or back parking lots will be those with the pre-printed parking passes: all graduates will receive one parking pass. Vehicles without a pass must park in the overflow parking lot/shuttle area see the back side for the map. Shuttles from the parking area to the arena will run constantly. Athletic Director Luke Beach wbeach@rochester.k12.mi.us Phone Numbers Main Office: Attendance: Fax: HOW DO WE HANDLE PARKING IF SOMEONE IS HANDICAPPED? Ultimate Soccer s small shuttle can accommodate wheelchairs. Golf carts will be available for anyone having a difficult time walking. If someone has a specific need, please contact Ultimate Soccer in advance or come very early. For safety reasons, no cars will be allowed in the front circle prior to or after the ceremonies.
2 IS HANDICAPPED SEATING AVAILABLE? Ultimate Soccer is 100% wheelchair accessible. People in wheelchairs can sit in one of the four cut-outs in the bleachers. Additional wheelchair seating is available on the floor in the roped-off area with one person from their family sitting with them. Wheelchairs can also be accommodated at the end of the rows of chairs on the floor. Just ask an Ultimate Soccer employee to take away the chair on the end. HOW MANY TICKETS DO WE GET? Ten tickets are available per family and were distributed and Senior Check Out on May 28th. CAN WE GET EXTRA TICKETS? Yes, they are available at the security desk on a first come, first served basis. HOW LONG IS COMMENCEMENT? Approximately 2 hours and should finish by 9:30 p.m. IS COMMENCEMENT REHEARSAL MANDATORY? Yes seniors MUST attend rehearsal if they plan on participating in the ceremony. Rehearsal begins at 11:30 a.m. at Ultimate Soccer seniors should arrive no later than 11:15 so that rehearsal starts on time. Seniors will walk through the ceremony and be given directions and line-up procedures. Rehearsal is expected to last approximately 90 minutes. There is no need to bring your cap and gown to rehearsal.
3 Rochester Girls Soccer in District Finals After a nearly two hour storm delay at Rochester Stadium, the Falcons came out firing on all cylinders in the district semi-finals, and took it to the Oxford Wildcats, winning impressively 4-0. Head Coach Cliff Brandmier acknowledged, "this was a total team effort". Next up for the Falcons will be arch rival Rochester Adams. The Rochester Girls Soccer team will march into the district final game Saturday, June 1, at noon. The title game will be held at Rochester Stadium. SUMMER LEARNING PROGRAM (SLP) 2013 FOR GRADES 6-12 The Summer Learning Program information for Grades 6 12 is now available on-line at the Rochester Community Schools website under the SCHOOLS tab. The (SLP) brochure has information regarding session dates, fees, locations and information regarding Summer Music Theatre (SMT). Session 1 begins June 19, 2013 and ends July 8, Session 2 begins July 9, 2012, and ends July 25, Session 3 is the all online session and it begins July 29, 2013 and ends August 13, If you have any questions, please the SLP / SMT hotline at slp-smt@rochester.k12.mi.us PHYSICAL EXAMS AND HEART SREENINGS AVAILABLE THIS SUMMER In conjunction with the certified athletic trainers and doctors from Crittenton Hospital, physical exams will be made available to students at the three high schools. Please call the RCS Administra-tion Center at , to schedule an appointment for one of the following dates: Tuesday, June 18: Rochester HS, 5-8pm Wednesday, June 19: Adams HS, 5-8pm Thursday, June 20: Stoney Creek HS, 5-8pm Cost is $30.00 cash or check, payable to: Rochester Community Schools. Proceeds from the June 19 date at Adams will be split between the Adams Booster Club and the Athletic Department, so schedule your physical today! All athletes are reminded they must have a physical dated after April 15, 2013 before they can practice. 4 ROCHESTER FALCONS BASEBALL CLOTHING AND EQUIPMENT DRIVE A SUCCESS! Thank you to everyone who donated items for this great cause. We received many clothing items and equipment which the Falcons Baseball players delivered to Eagle Sports Club in Detroit. Eagle Sports Club is a division of Eagle Children s Charities, serving the Detroit community for the past 15 years. Our contribution will help outfit 40 baseball teams consisting of approximately 600 players aged 4 years thru high school. Pictured is junior Sam Fajerski, junior Joe Iannetta, Varsity Coach Eric Mageira, Eagle Sports Athletic Director Terry Brennan, junior Andrew Bauer and sophomore Jake Stout. END OF THE YEAR ART NEWS Congratulations to senior, Yazmin Gooren, who received a national silver key for her art portfolio in the 2013 Scholastics Art and Writing competition. Yazmin will be recognized for her artistic accomplishments on May 31 st at an award ceremony at Carnegie Hall in New York, NY. Congratulations to senior, Han Na Shin who received a full ride scholarship to the University of Michigan for her outstanding art and academics. Han Na will attend the Penny Stamps School of Art and Design in the fall.
5 Congratulations to art club members; Emily Giedzinski, Sana Good & Anthony Bogucki whose collaborative skateboard design (image: 3 rd from left) took 1 st place at the 2013 Deck Art Competition. The competition is sponsored by South Street Skate Shop in downtown Rochester. Other skateboards pictured from left to right include; Henry Hibbeln, Zachary Wendt, and Joey Jacobs. Rochester High School art students; Anthony Bogucki, Jordan Taylor, Andrew Han and Jeffrey Zhu who completed the intensive seven month General Motors You Make a Difference program. Program participants learned the complete design process from sketching techniques through completion of a 3D scale clay model with the help of GM creative designers and sculptors. The students had the opportunity to work with world class industry tools and professionals while being exposed to a variety of exciting and creative careers in automotive design. Above is a sample of their completed design work and final presentation.
6 SENIORS You must request a final transcript to be sent to your college/university. Do this today through Parchment. Select next grading period and it will put your transcript on hold until it s available for delivery via Parchment on 6/28/2013. Your college/university requires this! *This may carry a fee through Parchment. You re allowed 3 requests before being charged. FALCON MARCHING BAND I am pleased to announce that Mr. Geoffrey Brouhard will serve as Interim Director for the Falcon Marching Band while Mr. Tim Nadeau takes a leave of absence. Mr. Brouhard is a graduate of RHS where he served 2 years as drum major. He also has served as an instructor for band camp from 1995 through 2001 and finally accepted a position as the Assistant Director from 2001 through Mr. Brouhard states: The traditions that define the FMB are dear to the hearts of many, from alumni to the community that we serve, and I look forward to learning those that are new and sharing many from the past.
