Greetings from your Governor The first weekend of October, the Quincy Moose Lodge 2675 will be hosting Moose Legion 182 Celebration for the first time since opening. It would be a nice show of support to our neighbor lodge if we could show up in force and help them make their first celebration a huge success. I am working with their administrator, Roy Rawlings, to get a few Tallahassee golf teams up to support their golf outing Saturday morning October 2. Details of when and where will be posted in our lodge soon. I want to thank the volunteers that cook and members that have chosen to eat with us on Friday nights. You have made Friday night dinners a success. As a result of your support, you have helped us achieve our common goal to provide a place where our members can come on Friday, eat a good meal at a fair price and enjoy free entertainment, while continuing to provide for our Members, Children at Mooseheart and our Seniors at Moosehaven. If you would like to get involved, there are signup sheets on the LOOM bulletin board, or just see me. On Thursday, January 20, 2011, The Loyal Order of Moose Supreme Governor, George McCullough, will be visiting our lodge. We are planning a special enrollment and dinner for his visit. Please mark your calendar and reserve that evening to come out and help welcome him and his wife to Tallahassee Moose Lodge 1075. We plan to reschedule the November and December enrollments to the night of his visit. We are currently half way through our membership quota this year. Please hit the streets and sign up as many members as you can between now and the Supreme Governor s visit. Those of you who are new and have not attended the enrollment ceremony yet, please plan on attending January 20, 2011. A personal letter from me to you new members will follow soon inviting you to learn the story of the Moose from, in my opinion, the finest Ritual Staff in the country. News from the Bingo Chairman Have you been out to play bingo lately? There have been some changes that you might like. We now have pull-tab horse race bingo games where you can win $100 to $500 a game. Our bingo nights are Friday and Sunday. Quarter bingo starts at 5:30 on Friday and 3:30 on Sunday. After the quarter bingo break, the regular bingo session starts. Bingo is a vital part of our wonderful lodge and we rely on it for many things. Coffee is free and the deli is open with hamburgers, hot dogs and dessert. As always, we are in need of volunteers to help on the floor or selling bingo packets. Come on back and see what s going on. I would like to thank all of you who volunteer every week to keep our bingo program running so smoothly. I can t stress enough how much you are appreciated! Keep up the good work! We still need help in bingo. If anyone is interested in helping call me at 274-6432. Our next regular meeting of the Tallahassee Moose Legion Committee will be on October 4 th at 6:30 pm. From Your Senior Regent Senior Regents Column Hello all you ghosts and goblins!! It s that time of year again and along with Halloween, is our Annual Christmas in October Dinner and Dance. The Mooseheart/ Moosehaven chairman Claribel and her committee have a sparkling evening lined up for you. Be sure to see the Christmas in October ad in this newsletter and lodge home for further details. In addition the Health Awareness committee will join the Mooseheart/Moosehaven committee and sponsor the Country Store. Chairman Pam has flyers out in the lodge for donations. I am sure you all will assist her in putting this project together for our chapter. My fingers are crossed that we had a successful fishing tournament in September. This event is the opening door to a bigger venture for the Moose Fraternity. Our chapter has a new Sunshine Child and Leilani has a beautiful bulletin board set up in the main lobby of the lodge. Stop by and take a look at our Little Girl!! For any further information about Akemi see Leilani Marsh, she is very excited about being the Sunshine Child Chairman. I would like to invite all co-workers to our Chapter Night Meeting on October 11 th, 2010. As you know this is Mooseheart/Haven Committee Month and our Annual March for Mooseheart and Moosehaven will take place during this Chapter Meeting. Please show your support for our twin cities. Greeting From Your Administrator: I would like to take this opportunity to write about what I consider the life blood of your Lodge. That would be BINGO and our MEMBER VOLUNTEERS who make it happen. Without Bingo, things would be a whole lot different around here. I would guess that most of our members have no idea what Bingo does for your Lodge. The Lodge charges Bingo rent for the use of our ballroom each Friday and Sunday night. Without these rent payments, we would be forced to find other sources of revenue to maintain and support this big beautiful building and provide the many fun activities your Lodge makes available to our members. Another wonderful benefit Bingo provides is the opportunity to give thousands of dollars to charities each and every year. All profits from Bingo go to charities. At the LOOM Business Meeting on September 7th, we allocated $14,500 from Bingo Funds to Charity. This is the profit we made from Bingo for the months of July and August. Your Lodge has been the #1 Lodge in the state of Florida for contributions to the Endowment Fund (this fund supports our kids at Mooseheart and our seniors at Moosehaven) the last several years. Most of this money comes from Bingo profits. So now you can see why I think Bingo is the life blood of our Lodge. I would like to take this opportunity to salute all those volunteers who work in Bingo every weekend. All our Bingo workers are strictly volunteers and do it because of their love for our Lodge and the many good causes Bingo supports. One last comment. We are always in need of more volunteers to help in Bingo. There are a lot of our members who have worked in Bingo for years and some who work every session we have. We have approximately 1,000 members in our Lodge. If each member would only work one Bingo session, we would have enough workers to cover Bingo for 1½ years. Please consider volunteering to work in Bingo. It is our responsibility. Your support will enable us to remain one of the top Lodge s in our great nation. Each year, high school students are selected by Lodges and Chapters to participate in the Youth Awareness Program. The Youth Awareness Program evolved from the Just Say No to Drugs program founded by First Lady Nancy Reagan. The Loyal Order of Moose was asked to participate in the program in 1986. Since that time, the Moose have developed a positive approach and, in 1988, changed the name to the Moose Youth and Drug Awareness Program. Knowing that there are more adverse elements in the community, the Loyal Order of Moose changed the name again in 1994 to the Moose Youth Awareness Program. The high school students are challenged to become a speaker s bureau utilizing Moose KidsTalks. Each participant selects a topic and develops a presentation around that topic. They are then responsible for finding opportunities to speak to groups of 4 to 9 year-old children in scouting units, elementary schools, Sunday School classes, Boys and Girls Clubs and YMCA youth programs just to name a few. Through the KidsTalks, participants can inspire children in their local communities to make healthy decisions and to avoid adverse situations. Each student is asked to do a minimum of three (3) Moose KidsTalks from the end of the Student Congress through February 28, 2011. They are also asked to complete written reports on these presentations. Peers then select from the written reports a number of students to attend the International Youth Awareness Congress. The 2011 International Congress will be held in Charlotte, North Carolina from April 28 May 2. Five students will be selected by their peers to receive scholarships. The awards are: 1st Place $12,000 2nd Place $8,000 3rd Place $5,000 4th Place $3,000 5th Place $2,000 The high school students must attend a one-day Student Congress at the Association level in order to be eligible to attend the International Congress. The Quincy Lodge will host an Association Student Congress on Saturday, November 6, 2010. Registration begins at 8:00 am, and the Congress begins at 9:00 am. At this one-day Congress, the students will hear from a number of speakers on topics such as fire safety, internet safety, and gun safety. The students will then have an opportunity to brainstorm and learn how to present a KidsTalk. If you know of any high school student that might be interested in attending the one-day Student Congress, please let one of the officers know. This is a great opportunity to encourage the youth of today to make wise and healthy choices in life. There is a FUTURE They are the FUTURE The FUTURE is Now
