Prcedures: This mdule will be delivered at the beginning f the Transitin GPS curriculum immediately after the senir leader welcme r service leader vide, if ne is available at the installatin. It is intended t help participants understand the verall Transitin GPS prgram, and the requirements necessary t meet Career Readiness Standards (CRS). It emphasizes the cmmn cnnectin pints between the individual Transitin GPS curriculum mdules and clarifies deliverables assciated with each mdule. The sessin may clse with an explanatin f the services ffered at the lcal family service center. 3 - Allw participants five minutes t review the ITP and, if necessary, write their persnal infrmatin. - If space allws, prvide a resurce area where all flyers, brchures, infrmatin can be easily accessible. Be sure t refer t this area repeatedly during the week, especially if the infrmatin changes. Transitin Overview Transitin GPS (Gals, Plans, Success) is an utcme based curriculum with standardized learning bjectives and tangible measures t ensure the service member is prepared fr a civilian career. The utcme is t assist service members in meeting mandatry Career Readiness Standards (CRS). The CRS standards are the DOD s tangible measures f the service member s preparedness fr a civilian career, regardless f their ccupatinal field r military branch. FACILITATOR NOTE: Explain that as yu speak abut each mdule, the crrespnding CRS within the mdule will be reviewed. TRANSITION GPS Mdules Pre-Separatin Cunseling: MANDATORY FOR ALL SERVICE MEMBERS Cngress has directed the military Services prvide each transitining service member Pre-separatin Cunseling n less than 90 days befre separatin but ptimally t begin between 12 and 24 mnths prir t separatin r retirement. The service member has earned valuable services and benefits, but can nly take advantage f them if they understand which services and benefits they are eligible fr and hw t get them. All service members must be cmplete the Transitin GPS prgram in rder t separate frm military service. A cmpleted Pre-Separatin Cunseling Checklist (DD Frm 2648 r DD Frm ) is the prf that the cunseling has been cmpleted. CRS: E-Benefits Accunt FACILITATORS NOTE: Query audience t ensure everyne has cmpleted Pre-separatin Cunseling prir t attending the Transitin GPS curriculum. Resilient Transitins: An intrductin t resurces n transitin-related issues including stress management, cnsideratins fr families, supprt systems, value f a mentr, and special issues that service members and their families may encunter as they prepare fr pst-military life. Military Occupatinal Cde (MOC) Crsswalk and Gap Analysis: This mdule prvides service members guidance n hw t translate military skills, training, and experience int civilian careers. 4 interest inventry r career assessment t determine a pssible career and research this career t determine required skills and educatin. Upn cmpletin f the research, the service members can dcument current skills, translate them int civilian terms and cnduct a gap analysis between the identified skills and pssible career after leaving the Service. CRS: Cmplete an individual assessment tl MOC Gap Analysis Financial Planning fr Transitin: Financial readiness is ne f the crnerstnes f managing a successful transitin frm the military. During this curse, each service member will create a 12-mnth pst- Service budget. It will als prvide infrmatin and tls needed t identify pstseparatin financial respnsibilities, bligatins and gals. Ideally, service members will bring their mst recent LES and bank statements, shwing checking and savings accunt infrmatin and an verview f their expenditures and bills; sme will prvide apprximated numbers r create a budget using fictinal scenaris. The gal is t leave the service member with a basic understanding f their finances, r hw t create a 12- mnth pst-service budget. CRS: 12-Mnth Pst-Service Budget Department f Labr Emplyment Wrkshp (DOLEW): MANDATORY FOR ALL SERVICES MEMBERS (but with specific exceptins)during this three day mdule, service members will learn abut emerging best practices in career develpment; cre skills and principles related t lcating an pprtunity; resume writing; and getting an interview and being selected as the best candidate. The wrkshp is fcused arund fur main principles: develping and executing a jb search plan; planning fr success in a civilian wrk envirnment; creating resumes, cver letters and ther self-marketing materials; and engaging in successful interviews and netwrking cnversatins. Explain t the service members that within the DOLEW participant guide, they will find the Gld Card, which is a CRS. CRS: Resume and Gld Card Department f Labr Veterans Affairs (VA) Benefits Briefing I&II: MANDATORY FOR ALL SERVICE MEMBERS Explain this mdule is actually tw sessins, VA Benefits I&II, which is briefed by VA Benefits Cunselrs. VA Benefits I is designed t intrduce service members t benefits they may be eligible fr and cnnect them with available resurces. VA Benefits II is designed t cver the VA Health Care prtal, assist with enrllment in VA health care, and prvide a demnstratin f ebenefits. During this sectin a service member will be able t sign up fr ebenefits is they have nt previusly dne s. ebenefits Registratin: This is a jint DD/VA web prtal that prvides resurces and self-service capabilities t service members, Veterans, and their families, t apply, research, access, and manage their VA and military benefits. CRS: ebenefits Accunt Additinal Training Tracks: In additin t a cre curriculum, Transitin GPS includes tw-day, gal-specific training tracks fr transitining service members seeking t enrll in cllege r graduate schl, btain a technical license r certificatin, r start their wn business. They include the fllwing: Entrepreneurship Bts t Business (B2B) Offers infrmatin related t the benefits and challenges f entrepreneurship fr service members pursing selfemplyment in private r nn-prfit sectrs, and teaches steps required fr business wnership thrugh the Small Business Administratin s (SBA) Bts t Business curse. Thrugh this curse, service members will have develped the initial cmpnents f a business feasibility plan. Additinally, they will be given the pprtunity t enrll in an ptinal eight-week, nline entrepreneurship curse, which will help them cmplete a business plan and cnnect them with a successful business mentr t assist with the business start-up prcess. Accessing Higher Educatin (AHE) This track is designed fr service members pursing higher educatin and fcuses n tpics such as hw t achieve academic success, research and cmpare institutins, align educatin t career gals, and finance higher educatin. After cmpleting the AHE Track, service members will be prepared t cmplete an applicatin t an accredited institutin, schedule a sessin with a cunselr frm an academic institutin, r meet individually with educatin cunselrs. Career Technical Training Track (CTTT) This track ffers a unique pprtunity t identify skills, increase awareness f training and credentialing prgrams, and develp an actin plan t achieve career gals. Service members and spuses wh attend the tw-day Department f Labr Career Technical Training Track (CTTT) wrkshp will cmplete a persnalized career develpment assessment f ccupatinal interest and ability. This industry-standard assessment will present wrkshp participants with a variety f tailred jb recmmendatins aligned with yur interests and aptitudes, sme f which are classified as high demand r high grwth ccupatins. Participants will learn t utilize self-sustaining tls t narrw their career fcus by establishing achievable career gals and develpment strategies. Wrkshp facilitatrs will guide participants thrugh a variety f career cnsideratins including labr market prjectins, educatin, apprenticeships, certificatins, and licensure requirements. Capstne: MANDATORY FOR ALL SERVICE MEMBERS This is fr the Cmmander r their designee t verify a transitining service member has met all CRS and has a viable ITP. The purpse is t evaluate a service member s preparedness t successfully transitin fr a military t a civilian career. If a service member requires r desires further assistance, a warm handver t the apprpriate agency partner is given. Opprtunity T Jin The Reserve Cmpnent: Emphasize fr participants the need t include in their career and educatin decisin prcess an evaluatin f ptins t cntinue their military Service thrugh Reserve pprtunities. CRS: Dcuments demnstrating cntact with a Reserve Cmpnent Recruiter (Active Cmpnent Only) Transitin GPS Participant Assessment: At the end f each mdule, participants are requested t cmplete the Transitin GPS Participant Assessment. As the facilitatr, encurage all participants t cmplete the nline assessment. Ways t encurage participatin include: prviding easy access by creating a quick link n the cmputer desktps, write ut and display the link n a PwerPint slide r at each statin r desk. Mst imprtant, give participants time t cmplete the assessment during class. Share the fllwing infrmatin with participants: The assessment is cmpletely annymus, which is why demgraphic infrmatin is nt stred and must be reentered fr every mdule. Participants shuld nly check the bx fr the mdule they just cmpleted (recmmend facilitatrs write the title f the mdule as it is listed in the assessment n the bard, r displayed n a PwerPint slide) Infrmatin is gathered and analyzed quarterly, cmments are read and categrized and used during the curriculum review cycle t make imprvements/updates based n service member feedback FACILITATOR NOTE: There are tw dcuments n the DODTAP.mil website t help facilitatrs understand the assessment. If pssible, have the class stand in a circle s everyne can be seen.
