4 Basic County Corrections Officer Course Approved by the New Jersey Police Training Commission, this course includes the prescribed course of study that a Correction Officer must complete as a condition for permanent appointment. The required units of study in this course include: Professional Development, Criminal Justice System, Human Relations, Criminal Law in Corrections, Arrest, Search, Seizure, Evidence, Communications, Weaponry and Unarmed Defense, Emergency Medical Correctional Security, Investigation Concepts, Physical Conditioning, and County Training. 6 Basic Juvenile Detention Officer Course Approved by the New Jersey Police Training Commission, this course includes the prescribed course of study that a Juvenile Detention Officer must complete as a condition for permanent appointment. 7 Special Law Enforcement Officer Class II Approved by the New Jersey Police Training Commission, this course includes the prescribed course of study that a S.L.E.O. II must complete as a condition for permanent appointment. 8 Basic Firefighter Training Program This Program, which incorporates the Firefighter 1 and 2 training courses, introduces the newly hired Firefighter to the basics of nationally recognized firefighting techniques presented in a paramilitary setting. Methods of instruction will include classroom theory, skill oriented "hands on" drill sessions, as well as a physical training and conditioning program. Student performance and progress will be evaluated throughout the course through the use of exams and evaluations, which include written, practical and physical assessments. The New Jersey Division of Fire Safety's standardized Firefighter 1 and 2 certification tests are given as part of the final exam. The Basic Firefighter Training Program exceeds the performance objectives of the N.F.P.A. standard 1001 and N.J.A.C. 5: standard which will allow a firefighter to perform firefighting under direct supervision. All students will receive ICS Orientation, Bloodborne Pathogens, Right to know and Hazardous Materials Awareness and Operational Levels of training as required by N.J.A.C. 5:75-6.1, as well as certification in CPR at the Healthcare Provider level. 9 Firefighter I (Evenings) Fire Fighter 1 is the first level of a progressive program which includes Fire Fighter 1, 2, and 3. This level introduces the new firefighter to the basics of nationally recognized firefighting techniques. Methods of instruction will include classroom theory as well as skill oriented "hands on" drill sessions. Student performance will be evaluated throughout the course including midterm and final exams, both written and practical. The New Jersey Division of Fire Safety's standardized Fire Fighter 1 test is given as part of the final exam. Fire Fighter 1 meets the performance objectives of the N.F.P.A. standard 1001 and N.J.A.C. 5: standard which will allow a firefighter to perform firefighting under direct supervision. 10 AHA - Basic Life Support CPR Instructor Course The first day of this two day course will begin with a skills evaluation session in order to ensure that the prospective instructor candidate possesses the basic knowledge and practical skills necessary to become an effective American Heart Association BLS/HCP Instructor. The AHA Core Instructors Program will then be presented. This program is intended to help the prospective instructor develop their basic facilitation skills in the areas such as course preparation, communicating with students, conflict resolution and classroom preparation. On the second day the Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers Instructor course will be conducted. Those students who successfully complete this program must then become affiliated with an American Heart Association BLS training facility such as the Essex County College Public Safety Academy, where they shall earn their Instructor certification only after their teaching skills having been observed and approved by a training center faculty member. All students will receive a BLS/HCP Instructors manual with a CD-Rom and a basic student manual. 11 AHA - Basic Life Support CPR Refresher Course This four hour session, approved by the American Heart Association, will satisfy skills upgrade requirements for Healthcare Providers and Professional Rescuers seeking recertification. Participants must be currently CPR/AED certified or recently expired. Upon successful completion of this course, a new AHA certification card will be issued. A current or recently expired CPR card must be presented by the student prior to the start of the recertification course. 12 Blood Borne Pathogens Refresher Course This course will address the OSHA Blood borne Pathogens Standard and review the three most common blood borne pathogens placing Public Safety personnel at risk: Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C and HIV. Understanding the mode of transmission, helps reinforce the utilization of Universal Precautions, vaccination recommendations and prompt reporting of any occupational exposures. The program will address what constitutes an exposure and available treatments in the event of exposure with special attention to issues specific to Police, Fire and EMS operators, as well as confidentiality factors regarding the individual patient and co-workers, as it relates to blood borne diseases. A course pre-requisite of basic blood borne pathogens training is required. Two (2) elective CEUs will be awarded to qualified EMS personnel upon successful course completion. Instructor: Dep. 13 The EMT Integrated Refresher course in designed to review the skills, knowledge and critical thinking needed to provide optimum pre-hospital care. This session awards 8 CEU s that will count as either core or elective credits based upon the continuing education the EMT or EMT-B has already completed. This class includes the expanded scope of practice materials and meets the NREMT requirements of a "Transition" program. This program may also be used by reciprocity candidates and individuals with expired New Jersey EMT credentials who wish to renew their certification. This program includes both written and practical skills evaluations, therefore students are strongly advised to read a new initial or transition textbook prior to participating in this session. 16 Epi-Pen Administration Training This 3 hour course is the required training for EMS providers associated with registered EPI-PEN delivery agencies. This training details indications, administration, and general guidelines regarding use of an epinephrine auto-injector by certified EMS personnel, and can only be provided to members of agencies that are registered with the NJ Department of Health as a registered EPI-PEN agency. 17 First Responder Refresher for Firearms Instructors This course is designed to teach students the skills and confidence they need to care for victims of sudden illness and accidents. The program meets and exceeds U.S. Department of Transportation National First Responder Curriculum and satisfies recertification requirements of the Police Training Commission for firearms instructors, who must periodically be recertified. 18 Incident Command System 200 This is the New Jersey State Police (NJSP) Office of Emergency Management program. It is required course for current or potential fire officers as well as the recommended training level for police, fire, EMS and first response personnel. Please note that ICS-100 is NOT a prerequisite for ICS-200. New Jersey Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT) may receive 12.0 elective continuing education units (CEU) for attendance at this program. The single command organization is stressed and students will be exposed to resource management and the role and function of each ICS position, including air operations. Through a series of small group exercises students will be provided examples of how the essential system principles and components are used in incident planning. This course includes modules 7-11 of the National Interagency Incident Management System curriculum. ICS 200 is a pre-requisite. This program offers 24 elective CEUs to qualified EMS personnel. 24 Right to Know Refresher Course (Weeknight) This course will review the Right-to-Know/Hazard Communication and SARA Regulations as well as safety and health measures, Material Safety Data Sheets and Hazardous Substance Fact Sheets. This course meets the NJDOHSS and OSHA Regulations and provides 2 elective CEUs for qualified EMS personnel. Initial RTK training is a pre-requisite for this program. Instructors: Dep. 25 APCO-Public Safety Telecommunicator Basic 911 This 40-hour approved Association of Professional Communications Operators (APCO) course provides the basic level of certification required by the State of New Jersey for any personnel working for a police department or other dispatch agency where calls are answered. Topics covered will include an overview of dispatch procedures, legal and liability issues, techniques for answering calls, handling the caller with special needs, and the history of New Jersey s system. This course includes a full day of role playing involving simulated calls. Students who successfully complete this course will possess the fundamental skills required to begin working as a call taker. There are no prerequisites for this course and no dispatch experience is required.
