1 CITI Ethics Training for Research with Human Subjects Registering for curriculum titled Investigators and Key Research Personnel Who is required to complete this training? IRB members and HRPP staff. The training is valid for three years. Please submit copies of training completion reports to Rikki Nguyen, HRPP Specialist, Registration Instructions: Registering with CITI is a two-step process for first time users. The first step is to register as a user and the second step is to register for a course. You will notice that CITI will ask you many of the same questions twice. 1. Go to the CITI website Click on Register. Step 1: Register as a User Page 1

3. Complete Registration steps 1-7. Under Select your Organization Affiliation type Department of Navy and check the box I AGREE to the Terms of Service for accessing CITI Program materials.

Continue to Step 2. Enter your Person Information on Step 2. When finished click Continue to Step 3. Created your Username and Password. When finished click Continue to Step 4. Enter Country of Residence. When finished click Continue to Step 5. State if you are interested in receiving CEU credit for participating. Enter Other Participants under If you picked YES, please check below the one type of credit you would like to earn. This is not needed for IRB purposes. When finished click Continue to Step 6. Provide your NPS information. Under What if your role in research? choose the appropriate role. Under You Command choose Naval Postgraduate School. When finished click Continue to Step 7. Under What kinds of research are you conducting? choose I am conducting, planning to conduct, or am otherwise involved in research with human subjects, tissues and/or patient records. When finished click Next. Page 2

3 Under What is your research focus? choose The Social and Behavioral Sciences. When finished click Next. Under What is your role in the research? choose Investigators and Key Research Personnel. When finished click Next. When asked, Are you required to complete the CITI Good Clinical Practice Course for the Department of the Navy? Choose No, not at this time. When finished click Next. When asked, Are you required to complete the CITI Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) for the Department of the Navy? Choose No, not at this time. When finished click Next. When asked, Are you required to complete the CITI Responsible Conduct Research (RCR) for the Navy? Choose No, not at this time. When finished click Next. Your registration with the Department of the Navy is complete. Choose Finalize registration. Page 3

Step 2: Register for a Course 1. Go to your email and open up the message from citiprogram-noreply@med.miami.edu and log into CITI.

Click on Department of The Navy Courses. Under Department of The Navy Courses choose Add a Course.

At this time you will choose the correct course to take. Click on Department of The Navy Courses. Under Department of The Navy Courses choose Add a Course. Scroll to the bottom of the page and when asked What kinds of research are you conducting? click on I am conducting, planning to conduct, or am otherwise involved in research with human subjects, tissues from humans and/or patient records. When finished click Next. Page 4
