1 DUPLIN COUNTY NAACP SCHOLARSHIP PACKAGE (2018) Complete application package should be in the hands of a scholarship committee member by 5:00 p.m. on Monday, April 23, This does not mean in the mail or in the school counselor s office. 2 Duplin County NAACP Scholarship (2018) Official Rules and Regulations The student should be a current member of the Duplin County NAACP (Branch or Youth Council). The student should be a current senior at a Duplin County High School or Early College High School, or a current senior who is active in the Duplin County NAACP (Branch or Youth Council) who does not attend a Duplin County High School. The student should plan to enroll as a full-time student at an accredited 4-year or 2-year college/university working toward a Bachelor or Associate Degree. Scholarship winners will be chosen by the Scholarship Committee, who will take their choices to the Branch Executive Committee for approval. Winners will be selected based on the following criteria. Each criteria has the same weight: a. GPA b. Financial Need c. Character d. School Activities/Awards e. Community Activities/Awards f. Written Essay g. SAT/ACT Scores h. Personal Interview If info is not provided for a category, the score for that category will be zero (0). A student may also have points deducted for not including all info (ex. photo, parents info, etc.). Award notification will be announced at the individual schools Awards Day Program (with certificate/letter). A member of the Scholarship Committee should make the presentation (if possible). 7. The actual payment of the scholarship ($500.00) will be given to the student at the January Branch meeting, provided we have received verification that the student successfully completed the fall semester at his/her chosen school. 8. The scholarships are given in honor of the following Duplin County NAACP leaders: a. East Duplin High School Esther Durham b. James Kenan High School Sallie M. Faison c. North Duplin High School Edwin Thompson d. Wallace-Rose Hill High School Robert Allen e. Duplin Early College High School or a Duplin youth who attends School outside of the Duplin County School System Riddick & Velma Wilkins 9. The complete application package should be in the hands of the scholarship committee no later than 5:00 p.m. on Monday, April 23, All applications (and accompanying materials) submitted become the property of the Duplin County NAACP. 1 Late applications will not be considered.
