3 DearFamily and Friends of thefoundation, As Chair of the Foundation Board of Directors, I am honored to speak on behalf of my fellow Board Members. The Board of Directors compromises 30 prominent business and community leaders who share a commitment to building a strong community through volunteerism and education. We recognize that the mission of the College is a perfect fit for our time and talent. With many academic offerings in fields that support our local industries, Delaware County Community College, now more than ever, is the right choice for our community and its residents. The Foundation s role is specific in its focus on providing financial support for students, faculty, programs and facilities. Board Members serve on various committees throughout the year, assisting the Foundation in managing its enterprise and advancing its noble purpose. Board Members are also advocates for the College within the community, resulting frequently in the development of mutually-beneficial partnerships. We are very proud of the strong program of support that our scholarship donors provide year after year. Their generosity sustains the program while rewarding and encouraging the academic achievements of our students. During the fiscal year, we will also focus on a 50th Anniversary Campaign. As an alumnus of the College, I have witnessed firsthand the way the College has transformed the lives of so many individuals in Delaware and Chester Counties, and I am proud to be a part of its history. The request for support of the 50th Anniversary Campaign marks this auspicious occasion and ensures the continued growth and prosperity of programs and educational facilities. On behalf of the Board of Directors, thank you to the many donors who invested in the College throughout its history and particularly in this current fiscal year. Sincerely yours, Robert M. Madonna Chair, Board of Directors DCCC Educational Foundation 1

With nearly 100 golfers, the event has raised $245,000 since its inception and provided scholarships for 79 students graduating from local high schools. Each June, The Golf Course at Glen Mills hosts the outing which draws friends and family of Lou Scott as well as constituents of Delaware County Community College. Many scholarship recipients are graduates of Penncrest High School where Lou Scott served as principal for 30 years. At the time of his death in 2000, Scott assisted the College president as a liaison to sponsoring school districts. 9 A gift to Delaware County Community College may support a student, program or project. It may also honor or memorialize a loved one. More than likely, it will reduce estate taxes. Create a Legacy WILLS AND TRUSTS A will or living trust that includes Delaware County Community College Educational Foundation as a charitable beneficiary is no different than any other will, except that it includes bequest language to benefit the College. Your bequest provision can take many forms such as naming Delaware County Community College for a specific dollar amount, a set percentage of the total value of your estate, or the remainder of your estate after you have provided for family. RETIREMENT PLAN For many individuals, qualified retirement plans such as Individual Retirement Accounts (IRAs), 401(k)s, 403(b)s, and Keoghs may represent a disproportionate percentage of their net worth. By naming Delaware County Community College on the change of beneficiary form for your retirement plan, you can designate the College to receive a portion of the funds left in the account at your passing. Not only is this simpler than drafting a codicil to your will, it also has tax advantages. If your qualified plan assets pass to someone other than your spouse at your death, they may be subject to both income and estate taxes. The William H. Torian, Jr. Memorial Scholarship will one day stand as a testament to his commitment to education and to his belief in the potential for success in each student. INSURANCE POLICY In some cases, if you own a fully-paid, existing life insurance policy that you no longer need, you may want to consider donating the policy to Delaware County Community College. You benefit from an income tax charitable deduction for approximately the cash surrender value of the policy. We generally liquidate donated policies immediately and use the proceeds as you designate. 10 Grants THE W. W. SMITH CHARITABLE TRUST AWARDS $25,000 GRANT FOR PILOT PROGRAM Four-year public and private colleges and universities have long been the beneficiaries of the W. W. Smith Charitable Trust. The Trust focuses on students in Greater Philadelphia who attend full time, demonstrate financial need and adhere to academic performance requirements. For the first time during the and academic years, the W. W. Smith Charitable Trust has opened its doors to area community college students. As might be expected, selection criteria are strict: Students must be enrolled in a minimum of 12 credits. Students must be U.S. citizens or U.S. Nationals residing in Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery or Philadelphia Counties or the city of Camden. Students must have a GPA of at least 2.5. Students must have financial need that cannot be met by other aid programs. With a grant of $25,000, Delaware County Community College and other local two-year colleges are able to participate in a pilot program that will afford students the same generous benefits that area four-year undergraduate students have enjoyed for decades. During the two-year pilot program, student progress will be monitored. Trust staff will visit the College once during the two-year grant period. The Trust was named for William Wikoff Smith, the fifth president of Kewanee Oil Company, founded by his great grandfather in For more than 20 years, Bill Smith quietly supported many charitable organizations in Philadelphia until his death in In his will, he established the W. W. Smith Charitable Trust, which has distributed in excess of $200 million since JP MORGAN CHASE FOUNDATION CONTINUING INVESTMENT IN MANUFACTURING The College received a third grant in the amount of $75,000 in support of the manufacturing sector. Grants received in 2014 and 2015 also supported training programs in manufacturing. This most recent grant supports an electro-mechanical technology training program that will be offered at the Exton Campus. Electro-mechanical technicians support the manufacturing sector by assembling, installing, troubleshooting and repairing mechanical, electrical and fluid power systems. The grant provides stackable credits along with internships in the manufacturing sector. Incumbent workers are also eligible for training, which will provide higher-order technical skills and enable them to advance within their companies. The continuing investment of JP Morgan Chase in workforce initiatives through their New Skills at Work Program benefits both employer and employee. 8

12 Dear Donors, Throughout the past year, we have thanked you for your contributions to thefoundation. The annual report presents another opportunity to express our gratitude and to document the generosity of donors. Contributions in totaled $1,264,384, representing support for capital and annual programs. During , we launched the 50th Anniversary Campaign in preparation for the College s 50th anniversary in To date, $53,992 has been contributed primarily by alumni and board members. This campaign will continue throughout the anniversary year. As in the past, the Foundation s Annual Dinner presents an opportunity to recognize the contributions of time and talent of the Foundation Board of Directors who host the event. The event honors both scholarship donors and students whose efforts have merited the awards. With 145 scholarship and award programs, the Foundation continues to welcome new donors each year, joining a list of alumni, faculty, friends, board members, corporations, foundations and other organizations whose investments in the College reward the hard work of students, faculty and staff. The new grant from the W. W. Smith Trust has added $25,000 to the scholarship fund of $260,527 for the current year, representing an increase of 41%. The College is honored to be included in this high-profile program of support in Greater Philadelphia. We are confident that our Smith Scholars will fulfill the requirements of this prestigious program and earn the respect of the Smith Trust. Your continuing support of the Foundation s mission plays an essential role in the College s student retention effort. It is also a vote of confidence in the work of faculty and administration. Thank you again. Sincerely, Kathleen A. Breslin Executive Director 10
