3 The School District of Mayville takes great pride in the amount of financial support available to its students graduating from Mayville High School in the form of scholarship opportunities. This emphasis on strong community support for education beyond high school allows our students to pursue their goals in a variety of curricular areas at a diverse number of institutions of higher learning. This booklet has listed all available scholarships in one convenient document for your information and continual reference. It is our hope that you will use this information to learn of the many scholarship opportunities at Mayville High and to acquaint yourself with the scholarship selection process. On behalf of the Board of Education and the School District of Mayville, let me express our gratitude for the commitment that area clubs, organizations and businesses have made to the continuing education of the students of this district. Thank you all for your continued support. The financial assistance you so generously provide has left an endearing legacy of educational excellence that is recognized far beyond the boundaries of this district. Students who are graduating from Mayville High School are encouraged to carefully read all instructions and to process all applications according to established guidelines and deadlines. Please allow ample time to gather all necessary materials so your application accurately reflects your abilities and strengths. Scott Sabol District Administrator Many scholarships offered by individual colleges/technical schools, foundations, corporations, and civic groups covering a variety of programs are not listed in this pamphlet. The responsibility for gathering, researching, and applying for scholarships belongs with the student. In addition to guidance department resources, students are encouraged to contact the financial aid office of the college/technical school they plan to attend for complete information about specific scholarships offered at that particular school. **Students who receive a scholarship must be enrolled as a full-time college student to receive their scholarship money. Students receiving scholarship money for first, second or both semesters must also be full-time students for the entire school year following graduation. The School District of Mayville shall not discriminate in the acceptance and administration of gifts, bequests, scholarships and other aids, benefits or services to students from private agencies, organizations or persons on the basis of sex, race, national origin, religion, color, ancestry, creed, pregnancy, marital or parental status, sexual orientation or physical, mental, emotional or learning disability or handicap. 4 GRACE BACHHUBER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Bachhuber, owners of Mayville Engineering Company, were benefactors of community interests and activities for many years. They strongly believed that education benefited individuals and the communities where they lived. When Mrs. Bachhuber died in 1983, her husband created these scholarships in her memory. A recipient must be a graduating senior from Mayville High School. The student must have a commendable academic record and have the potential to successfully continue achievement in college, university, or technical college. A student pursuing a degree in business, engineering or technology, as related to business, will be given priority consideration. Fifteen scholarships of $7, each will be awarded annually. Each scholarship is renewable for three (3) additional years, providing the student continues in a course of study approved at the time the scholarship was awarded and maintains a 2.5 GPA or higher. Determination of continuing eligibility will be made by the selection committee. One half of the scholarship is paid at the first semester and the remaining half is paid the second semester upon verification of enrollment. The payment is handled through the Administrative Office of the Mayville School District. Any unusual circumstances, such as a temporary leave from an institution or a change in a specified major, should be promptly reported to the high school guidance department. 5 GRACE BACHHUBER MEMORIAL TECHNICAL SCHOLARSHIP Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Bachhuber, owners of Mayville Engineering Company, were benefactors of community interests and activities for many years. A recipient must be a graduating senior from Mayville High School pursuing a 1-2 year degree at a technical college. All degree programs with the exception of programs in the Hospitality & Tourism and the Human Services categories are eligible. AMOUNT OF SCHOLARSHIPS: Three scholarships of $3, each will be awarded annually. Each scholarship is renewable for 1 additional year, providing the student continues in a course of study approved at the time the scholarship was awarded and maintains a 2.5 or better cumulative grade point average. Determination of continuing eligibility will be made by the selection committee. One half of the scholarship is paid at the first semester and the remaining half, the second semester, on verification of enrollment. 6 TED BACHHUBER POST HIGH SCHOOL MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP (Currently Enrolled College Students, see information who is eligible below) Ted and Grace Bachhuber were ardent believers that education provided a way to enable people to improve themselves. In honor of their commitment to education, two scholarship programs were created. The Grace Bachhuber Memorial Scholarship was established to financially assist students of the Mayville High School graduating classes. Later, the Ted Bachhuber Post High School Memorial Scholarship was established to financially assist Mayville High School graduates who had demonstrated their commitment and ability to succeed at the college level. A. The applicant must not have received the Grace Bachhuber Memorial Scholarship. B. The applicant must be a full-time student, accepted into a major field of study and entering his/her junior, senior, or fifth year senior of a baccalaureate degree program at a college or university, or entering the second year of a technical college associate degree program. C. Applicants pursuing a major in a business, engineering or technical field will be given priority consideration. D. The applicant must maintain a 2.5 or higher GPA. Two (2) baccalaureate scholarships in the amount of $7, each and one (1) associate degree scholarship in the amount of $3, may be awarded annually. The scholarships may be renewed for a second year dependent on the student s academic performance, continuation of study in the approved academic areas, and year in college. Determination of continuing eligibility will be made by the selection committee. One half of the scholarship is paid at the first semester and the remaining half the second semester, upon verification of enrollment. The scholarship is processed and paid through the Administrative Office of the Mayville School District. 7 DR. THOMAS J. BECK MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP Dr. Thomas J. Beck was born and raised in Mayville, Wisconsin, attending St. Mary s Elementary and Mayville High School. He married in 1952 to his wife Patricia, and shortly afterwards left to fight in the Korean War. When he returned to Mayville in 1954 he took over the family chiropractic business established by his father. Dr. Beck and Patricia raised eight children, and over time were blessed with 17 grandchildren. Dr. Beck was a vital member in his church congregation and demonstrated daily the importance of giving back to a community. In 1990, he retired to the north woods of Wisconsin where he spent his time fishing, hunting and playing with his grandchildren. Dr. Thomas J. Beck passed away in Dr. Beck was always a pivotal, stoic figure in the Beck family. Through his life, he taught his children and grandchildren the value and pay off of hard work and the importance of service to a community. He is remembered daily for his life lessons that live on in each family member and his unforgettable laughter. This scholarship is available to a Mayville High School graduating senior attending a two or four year non-profit technical college or university. The scholarship is awarded to a student with an excellent academic record (minimum 2.75 GPA) and a history of accomplishing goals and helping others. One (1) scholarship of $1, will be awarded annually on a one-time basis. The scholarship will be paid directly to your institution of higher learning once your first semester has been satisfactorily completed and registration for your second semester has been completed. Submit an official college transcript with first semester grades and second semester courses to Ms. Adamavich in the MHS Guidance Office, 500 N. 8 TOM BOOTSY BIERTZER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP The Mayville Kick-off Club is an organization founded in 2011 for the purpose of supporting Mayville Football programs at all levels. The scholarship is awarded to graduating seniors from Mayville High School who has actively participated in Mayville High School Football as a player or team manager. The applicant must be attending an accredited college, university or accredited technical vocational or trade school of at least a year s duration. Applicants must provide a completed scholarship application, including cumulative GPA, ACT score, a list of sports you have participated in at MHS, the number of years you have participated, number of letters earned and any special recognition or awards achieved. Please also include: An essay about what Mayville Football has meant to you. The amount and number of scholarships awarded annually will be at the discretion of the Kick-off Club Board of Directors, but will be of at least $500 each / non-renewable. The scholarship will be paid in two installments - payable at the beginning of each semester, upon verification of enrollment and full-time student status. 9 THE BONAU-WHEREATT POST 69 MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP A high school student of the current year graduating class; who is a son or daughter, step-son or step-daughter, grandson or granddaughter of a Mayville Legion member in good standing (paid up member). The scholarship will be awarded to a student who will attend a two-year or four-year college, who has reasonable scholastic ability, character and leadership. This two-year scholarship in the amount of $200/year will be issued at the beginning of each school year. You must supply proof of school admission for each of the two years payment Contact Bonau-Whereatt American Legion Post 69 for payment. 10 RON BREITKREUTZ MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP A high school student of the current year graduating class. This scholarship is administered by the Mayville American Legion Post #69 and will be awarded to a student who attends a two- or four-year college, with reasonable scholastic ability, character and leadership. This one-time scholarship in the amount of $500 will be issued at the beginning of the school year. (You must supply proof of school admission for payment). 11 OTTO BUTH MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP Mr. Buth played an important part in the School District of Mayville for many years. He became the Superintendent of the Mayville Schools in 1923 and served here until the time of his death in He is remembered for his friendly manner, his enthusiasm, and his sense of loyalty and fair play. He was devoted to his students and schools, and had a never ending interest in the progress of education. This scholarship was first awarded in This scholarship is given every year to a Mayville High School graduate who is in financial need to further his/her education. This scholarship is not limited to college or university training, but is open to students wishing to enroll in technical, vocational and trade schools, who register in courses of advanced study beyond high school credit. $ / non-renewable The scholarship is paid in full at first semester upon verification of enrollment. 12 RAY DUNN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP Mr. Dunn was an important part of education at the Mayville High School for 35 years. He is remembered not only as an industrial arts and physical education teacher, but starting in 1929, as a head football and basketball coach. He won numerous conference championships, including the first Little 10 Football Conference Championship in He also led his team to a State Class B Basketball Championship in Later in his career, Mr. Dunn became the school's athletic director and served as president of the Wisconsin High School Coaches Association. The memory of Ray Dunn was honored by his induction into the WHSFCA Hall of Fame on March 31, This scholarship was first established in This scholarship is given every third year to a boy/girl graduating from Mayville High School who participated in sports during his/her high school career and shows evidence of a good scholastic record. This scholarship is not limited to college or university training, but is open to students wishing to enroll in technical, vocational and trade schools, who register in courses of advanced study beyond high school credit. $ / non-renewable The scholarship is paid in full at first semester upon verification of enrollment. 13 WILLIAM BRENT ELLINGTON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP This scholarship(s) fund is named in honor of Coach Brent Ellington, special education; social studies teacher; and longtime coach at Mayville High School from 1985 to While at Mayville he coached in various program: assistant freshman football; JV girls basketball; varsity girls basketball; girls track & field; and assistant cross country coach until his untimely death in The Mayville track & field and cross country teams created the Ellington Memorial Scholarship Fund after his death in EXPANDED HISTORY: Mr. Ellington began teaching and coaching at St. Mary's of Mayville in While at Mayville High School, Coach Ellington was assistant Cross Country Coach during the 1992 and 1993 seasons when the Mayville girls Cross Country team won back to back WIAA Cross Country Division II State Championships. Coach Ellington's girl s track and field teams won 15 Conference Championships; 10 WIAA Division II Regional Championships; and 1 WIAA Division II Section Championship during the seasons. Coach Ellington enjoyed coaching at the high school level but was also a promoter of all sports through the Mayville City summer recreation department. He was employed at St. Mary's School from where he taught and coached prior to joining the Mayville School District. A graduating Mayville High School student who has participated in the track & field and/or cross country programs at Mayville High School during his/her senior year and has earned a letter. Applicants must have a minimum cumulative 2.5 GPA. Students must be accepted to a private university, public university or technical college. $1,000 each / non-renewable One scholarship will be awarded to a female and another to a male student. Payment is one lump sum and will be paid after the completion of the first semester and verification of enrollment for the second semester. 14 ENCORE ELECTRIC SCHOLARSHIP The Encore Electric Scholarship was established by Encore Electric of Mayville, Wisconsin to support students entering a career in the field of technology. Mayville High School students who wish to apply for this scholarship must attend a four-year college or university or two-year technical school/training program, entering the field of technology and demonstrate evidence of a good scholastic record in high school. $500 / non-renewable The payment shall be paid at the beginning of the first semester upon verification of enrollment and intended major from the registrar and a copy of the first semester courses being taken. 15 DRS. ESSER, KRUEGER AND BORJA HEALTH CARE SCHOLARSHIP Drs. Esser, Krueger and Borja of Horicon have established this scholarship to assist students in pursuing a career in health care practice. This scholarship is for a graduating senior from Mayville High School planning to pursue an education in the health care practice field (not administrative or office). A minimum 3.25 GPA is required. The scholarship is not limited to a four-year college or university, but is open to students wishing to enroll in technical or vocational schools, who register in courses of advanced study beyond high school credits. $800 / non-renewable The scholarship is paid in one lump sum upon verification of enrollment for the first semester. 16 FLYWAY SOCCER SCHOLARSHIP Flyway Soccer is a recreational league that is established in Mayville, WI. This scholarship is awarded to (2) individuals who have actively participated in the Flyway Soccer program for at least (3) three years and graduating from Mayville High School. The applicant(s) must be attending an accredited college or university or accredited vocational, technical, or trade school of at least a year s duration, and provide proof of enrollment. The individuals must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and the selection committee requires three formal letters of recommendations from teachers or community members. Applicants are also required to complete a short essay on How participation in Flyway Soccer has helped me as a student/player, etc $500 each / non-renewable The scholarship will be paid by the Flyway Soccer organization. 14

17 GENESIS COMPUTER SYSTEMS SCHOLARSHIP A Mayville High School Graduating senior who wishes to apply for this scholarship must attend a four-year college/university or a two-year technical school/training program and demonstrate evidence of a good scholastic record in high school. Preference will be given to a student pursuing a career interest in IT. $250/ non-renewable The scholarship is paid at the beginning of second semester upon verification of first semester grades and proof of second semester enrollment. 18 NINA P. GLOEDE SCHOLARSHIP Nina Pedersen Gloede taught Typing, Office Practice, Recordkeeping and Accounting for 41 years ( ). Educated at Phelps High School and Whitewater State College, she began her teaching career in 1942 at Phelps High School for four years, and then was hired by Mayville High School in She married Arthur Gloede, a hardware store owner, and continued teaching until retirement in 1987, a total of 41 years at Mayville High School. Inspired by her high school business teacher to follow in that field, she always hoped that her influence went to encourage others to seek the challenges of the business world. Thus this scholarship is set forth for students who would pursue Business or Accounting degrees at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, with employment in the private sector as a career goal. $1,500 / non-renewable A. Applicant must be a graduating senior from Mayville High School who has attained a cumulative 3.3 GPA though seven semesters of high school, in course work that demonstrates academic rigor. B. The applicant must be of good character and have a record of leadership. C. The applicant must demonstrate acceptance to UW-Whitewater with a desire to pursue a degree in Business or Accounting. E. The applicant must meet the requirements in the Basis for Selection as set forth below. BASIS FOR SELECTION: Submit a copy of high school transcript Submit copy of ACT results Submit a resume Include a cover letter outlining career objectives and why you believe you would qualify for this scholarship. Submit two formal letters of recommendation: (One from a high school teacher and one from a community leader OR prior/current employer.) Payment is in one sum, payable upon successful completion of the first semester, defined as, a minimum GPA, and verification of second semester enrollment. 19 HAROLD R. AND LOIS A. HAUFFE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP OF THE FOND DU LAC AREA FOUNDATION Long-time Mayville residents, Harold and Lois Hauffe, dedicated their careers to education. Lois was a high school English and history teacher who taught in the Weyauwega, West Bend, Horicon, and Juneau, Wisconsin school districts, and was a homebound instructor with the Mayville School District. Harold began and ended his career at Mayville High School. He was originally hired as a guidance counselor but served in many capacities during his 36-year career: social studies teacher, driver s education instructor, assistant high school principal, and buildings/grounds supervisor. In addition, he coached various football, basketball and tennis teams. Following his retirement, Harold continued to serve the Mayville community as a school board member for another 15 years. Additionally, Harold and Lois served their community by contributing talents and time to many local service organizations and their church. Lois Hauffe passed away in 2004 and Mr. Hauffe passed away in The scholarship will be awarded annually to two (2) graduating seniors from Mayville High School who display commendable academic records as determined by the selection committee, which may include a member of the extended Hauffe family. Strong consideration will be given to those students with a good scholastic record, who participated in extracurricular activities and who showed a strong commitment to community. The attending school may be a public college, university or technical school. Priority may be given to those students interested in pursuing a teaching career. Each scholarship will be for $1,000 and can be renewed for up to (3) three additional years. Evidence of successful academic performance and progression towards graduation will be required. The first-year scholarship will be awarded after the completion of the first semester. First semester grades and a copy of second semester schedule must be provided for payment. The continuation of a scholarship after the first year will be dependent upon the student s academic performance. Recipient must enroll in and maintain during the scholarship period, a course of study leading to a degree or diploma in a recognized field of study. 20 ALEX HILBER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP This scholarship fund is named in honor of Coach Alex Hilber, math teacher at Mayville High School from 1985 to 2007 and Mayville football coach until While at Mayville, Coach Hilber s teams won 12 conference championships, achieved 9 regular undefeated seasons, and participated in the WIAA playoffs 15 times. Mayville made it to the semi-finals 6 times and in 1991 and 1992 they were State Runner-Ups. In 1994, Mayville fulfilled a perfect 13-0 season and won the WIAA Division 4 State Championship. Under the direction of Coach Hilber, his teams won 161 games, losing only 30. Coach Hilber enjoyed all sports but it was clear that teaching the game of football to students was his passion. Coach Hilber s family and friends created the Alex Hilber Memorial Scholarship Fund after his death in Current students who played football on the Mayville High School Football team during their senior year and lettered. Students must have a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA. Students must be accepted to a private university, public university or technical college. $500 / non-renewable Payment is one lump sum and will be paid after the completion of the first semester and verification of enrollment for the second semester. 21 KATHY KRIEHN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP Mrs. Kathy Kriehn was an important part of the Mayville School District and Community for many years. She was a para-professional in the special education room and gave her time to the summer musical, youth soccer, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, 4H, and the Parade of Trees. SCHOLARSHIP The Marais Players Inc, is an area based, community theatre was formed in The group's purpose is to provide live theater entertainment to the area and to encourage the involvement of people interested acting, directing, set design, and any other aspect relative to live theater. 24 MAYVILLE AMERICAN LEGION AUXILIARY SCHOLARSHIP The Mayville American Legion Auxiliary Scholarship began in The auxiliary made available this scholarship to support academic achievements and give students the opportunity to continue their achievements and further their education. This scholarship is given to a daughter/son, granddaughter/grandson of a paid-up member of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit No. 69 who has maintained a "C" grade average in high school. Special consideration will be given to an active paid-up American Legion Auxiliary Jr. member of Post 69 Auxiliary. The amount of the scholarship is $ per year and is open to students who enroll in technical, vocational, trade schools, colleges or university in any state. At least a "C" average must be maintained during this time. One half of the scholarship is paid at the beginning of each semester, upon verification of enrollment. It is given to recognize academic achievement, and school and community service. It is to be used to develop and expand future achievement, leadership and success in the recipient's chosen field. The recipient must be a graduating student from Mayville High School, who displays a commendable academic record and the potential to successfully continue achievement in a college, university, or technical college. The attending college may be public or private and the course of study must lead towards graduation. Children of Rotarian members are not eligible. $1,000 each / non-renewable The recipient must initiate schooling within eight months of receiving the award. 35 EDGAR AND DOROTHY MUELLER SCHOLARSHIP Edgar G. Mueller, with his camera in hand, graphically recorded the history of Mayville and surrounding communities for over sixty-five years. With his desire to be involved with kids, he drove school bus for 35 years. Edgar passed away March 23, In order to carry on Mr. Mueller s legacy, three $1, scholarships are being provided by an anonymous donor and are being administered through the Mayville Limestone School Museum. A graduating student from Mayville High School in financial need and accepted by a two-year or four-year accredited college or university, or a technical/vocational school. The student must have attained a B or better (3.0 GPA) through seven semesters of high school, be of good character and have a record of leadership and service. REQUIREMENTS: Applicant must provide a financial statement along with a handwritten essay (100 words or less) describing your educational plans and your need for the scholarship. Explain briefly what you have done to help pay your own college expenses. School attendance/tardy record will weigh on the final decision. Three (3) scholarships will be awarded annually in the amount of $1,500 each / non-renewable Upon verification of your acceptance from the registrar s office of an institution of higher learning the scholarship will be paid as follows; ½ paid at the beginning of the first semester and ½ at the beginning of the second semester. 36 JACK OMER SCHOLARSHIP Mr. Omer began teaching at Mayville High School in He taught social studies and coached football and track. In 1972, he assumed the position of athletic director. As a coach, Jack Omer set the best record in the history of Mayville with 11 Conference Championships, by winning 32 of 35 games in the Flyway Conference. In 1983, he was recognized by the WHSFCA as the District VI Coach of the Year (Class B) and received the Victors and Service Awards. The memory of Jack Omer was honored by his induction into the Wisconsin High School Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame on March 23, This scholarship was first awarded in This scholarship will be awarded to graduating seniors from Mayville High School (one male and one female) who show outstanding athletic ability and academic and leadership achievement. Varsity managers and varsity cheerleaders also qualify. The students must be furthering their education at a public or private college, university, or technical school. The course of study must lead to a diploma, associate or baccalaureate degree. If in the opinion of the Selection Committee, there isn't a qualified male and female applicant, the committee can select two candidates of the same gender. The graduating MHS student athletes must have participated in two or more sports and earned a varsity letter in at least two different sports. Applicants must have maintained a minimum 2.5 GPA. Two (2) scholarships will be awarded in the amount of $1,000 each. (The award amounts could vary depending on available funds.) 37 HARRIETTE A. SCHMIDBAUER SCHOLARSHIP Harriette A. Schmidbauer was a small town girl who grew up in the tiny village of LeRoy. As a young woman, she moved to the big city of Milwaukee where she met her future husband and became a very successful businesswoman, respected in her field and active in her community. Her business, Hampel s Bookstore, was located on Wisconsin Avenue, right in the heart of Milwaukee s educational complex, within walking distance of Marquette University. After retiring and the death of her husband she moved back to LeRoy and married her late sister s husband. Hattie loved reading and learning. This love prompted her to establish this scholarship to aid future generations of students to continue their education. It was her hope that these recipients would experience that same joy that she found in learning. The purpose of this scholarship is to benefit students graduating from Mayville High School who exhibit potential for future achievement, leadership, and successes in their chosen field. Successful candidates must possess the following: prior academic and extra-curricular performance, performance on tests to measure aptitude for college work and demonstrated leadership ability and community service. One scholarship recognizes achievement in Art, Music, Drama, History or Literature and is open to students enrolling in a four-year college. Pre-Business or Business majors are not eligible for this scholarship. Two additional scholarships are available for students enrolling in a technical college. The scholarships are available for any associate degree or technical diploma program in Wisconsin. One (1) $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to a student majoring in Music, Drama, History, Literature or Art at a four-year college. Two (2) $1,000 (each) scholarships will be awarded to students attending a Wisconsin technical college enrolled in a technical diploma or associate degree program.
