3 LOCAL SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS General Instructions Complete all questions neatly and provide all information requested, especially signatures. Incomplete applications and/ or incorrect application form will disqualify applicants for scholarship consideration. Pay close attention to deadlines and eligible criteria. Copies of local scholarship criteria and application forms can be downloaded by the following instructions: 1. Go to 2. Click on Schools and Shawano High 3. Click Student Services on left menu 4. Click on SCHS Community Scholarship Booklet 5. Save applications to word document Completed forms are to be turned into the SCHS Student Service Office by February 13th for review by the Shawano Community High School Scholarship Committee. Once the applications are received by the Student Service Office, any information contained therein will be made available to the scholarship sponsors or faculty committees for their review and evaluation. Any required statement of need, financial disclosure, student essay, G.P.A., class rank, or school activity is the responsibility of the applicant and should be provided by that applicant with the initial application. All applications must be given to Mrs. Parker or Mrs. Marquardt in Student Services by Feb 13 th, 3:20 pm. Contact your school counselor if you have any questions regarding local scholarships. NOTE: A separate application form must be completed for each scholarship. Most scholarship organizations require the SCHS Local Scholarship Application. However, some scholarships require a different scholarship application. The following scholarships require a different application: FBLA, FFA, J. Ainsworth Agricultural (use FFA),Wolf Rivers Builders Association, Shawano Rotary Emereth Brunner, Shawano Area AARP, and Dodge Family Scholarship Foundation, Inc. - Medical (Sandy Dodge Application). Each application can be downloaded from the scholarship information page in this booklet. All dollar amounts and awards are subject to change. 6 AMERICAN LEGION AUXILIARY SCHOLARSHIP American Legion Auxiliary Shawano Amount $ Number 1 Qualifications 1. Must have a service affiliate-must be the daughter, son, wife or widow of a veteran. A granddaughter or greatgranddaughter may apply if she is an American Legion Auxiliary member. 2. Must have financial need. 3. No other local scholarships at time of selection. 4. Can be technical college or university. 5. Must rank in upper two-thirds of class. 6. Must have good character; demonstrate good citizenship. 7. Applicant must be a current graduate of SCHS. Continue on with their education at an accredited technical college with a focus on the graphic arts. 2. Applicant does not need to show financial need but financial need will be considered. 3. Applicants must maintain a 2.5 GPA or higher during high school years. 4. Demonstrate in practice the characteristics of good school and community citizenship and good moral character. Must pursue at least one year of additional training or education beyond high school. 4. Must rank in the upper one-third of class as determined by G.P.A. 5. Good Citizenship, good sportsmanship, and good moral conduct shall be important considerations. 6. The award shall be distributed equally among male and female students. In addition, a 200 word minimum essay explaining the history, people, communities, cultural heritage, historic sites, natural environment and recreational opportunities of the Pineries to the Present area (Shawano Co) must be submitted or show evidence of participating in the Pineries to the Present activities. 3. 20 FUTURE BUSINESS LEADERS OF AMERICA SCHOLARSHIP Future Business Leaders of America Amount $ Number 2 Qualifications 1. Must be a FBLA member in good standing. 2. Must be a senior. 3. Need to be an active member: participate in regional conferences or be an FBLA officer. Students will complete the FBLA Scholarship Application. This award will be available to a student who will pursue post-secondary education at a UW system or WTCS school in an agricultural related field. 3. Preference will go to a student who is involved in FFA and other high school/ community service. Students will complete the FFA Alumni Scholarship Application. 23 The Katie Culhane Memorial Scholarship The Katie Culhane Memorial Scholarship is given to a SCHS graduating senior who has participated in the school's Special Education program. The scholarship may be used to further the student's education at a technical college, college, or job skills training program. The scholarship is given in memory of Katie Culhane who passed away in 2002 at age 10 from leukemia. Katie was a student at Olga Brenner in the Special Education program. She loved the time she spent with her teachers and friends at school, and her family is pleased to help another student continue their education in Katie's memory. : Katie Culhane Memorial Fund, a donor advised fund within the Shawano Area Community Fund Amount: $ Number: 2 Qualifications: Graduating Senior from Shawano Community High School. 24 KATHRYN KORTING NOLAND SCIENCE SCHOLARSHIP Friends and Relatives of Kathryn Korting Noland Amount $200 Number 1 Qualifications 1. The student shall be a resident of the Shawano Community School District and a senior at SCHS. 2. The student shall be in the top 10% of the senior class academically. 3. The student shall have taken four years of high school science. 4. The student shall be the top-ranking student intending to major in biology, chemistry, or geology at the college level. If no student qualified in one of the aforementioned areas, the student shall then be the top ranking student who intends to pursue a chemically, biologically, or geologically related field. 25 LORETTA IWEN SCHOLARSHIP Iwen Scholarship Fund Amount $1, Number 2 Qualifications 1. Be from SCHS and plan to attend an accredited college or university in pursuit of a baccalaureate degree. 2. Be ranked in the upper 15% of the senior class. 3. Demonstrate in practice the characteristics of good school citizenship and good community citizenship. 4. Be in need of financial assistance. The administrators of the fund may require parents of prospective grantees to furnish financial information to assist in selection. Applicants should complete the SCHS Local application form. 28 Premier Community Bank Scholarship Premier Community Bank is proud to recognize a graduating student of Shawano High School with a $500 scholarship toward their pursuit of further education. A Senior placing in the upper one-half of the graduating class at the time of application Description of community service performed and hours volunteered during high school career. Recipient will receive the $500 scholarship from Premier Community Bank after the completion of their first semester with a 2.5 grade point average and proof of their continued enrollment in a college or Technical School. 31 Allan Waelchli Scholarship* Eligibility: Graduating high school senior, from Shawano Community High School, who plans on attending an accredited college, university, or Wisconsin technical college to pursue a career in natural resources, with a preference for a degree in forestry. Student must have maintained a minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA. Award Amount: One $500 non-renewable scholarship award for tuition expense. : Recipients will be selected each spring by the Shawano Area Community Foundation Scholarship Committee. Payment Procedure: Scholarship payments will be released after submission of the following to the Community Foundation for the Fox Valley Region: completed scholarship verification form (located at proof of major and verification of full time student status for the first semester of college (class schedule with credits listed). After approval of submitted documentation, the scholarship check will be paid directly to the school the recipient will be attending during the first semester of college. This scholarship cannot be deferred. Most communications between the Community Foundation and the student will be via . Please keep us advised of your current address. Baumann was born and raised in Shawano, Wisconsin, graduating from Shawano High School with the Class of He owned and operated Ken s Auto Repair where he did auto and truck repairs and auto body work. The Baumann Memorial Automotive Scholarship was established to not only honor Kenneth s memory and life work, but also to honor his deceased father, Arthur, who was a tractor and truck mechanic for Farmers Implement, his deceased brother, Rodney, who was an auto technician for Lasch Motors, his brother, Harold, who was a diesel truck mechanic for Catencamp, and his son, Kendall, a Master Auto Technician for Bergstrom Mercedes. Eligibility: Graduating high school senior from Shawano Community High School who is planning to go on to a technical college to pursue an automotive career in any of the following areas: Automotive Technician/Mechanic Diesel Truck Mechanic Auto Collision Repair Technician The chosen candidate should show an aptitude for the automotive area and be involved with community projects. 34 Donald L. Moede Memorial Scholarship This scholarship was established in loving memory of Donald L. Moede by his brother, John. Donald graduated from Shawano High School and attended UW River Falls. After completing his freshman year, Donald worked that summer to earn money for his sophomore year. At age 19, he was involved in a swimming accident that left him a quadriplegic and he spent two years in hospitals, enduring several surgeries. Donald was determined to complete an accounting correspondence course, all done without the use of computers which were not available at that time. Candidates should be planning to attend an accredited four year college or university or a Wisconsin technical college. Preference will be given to students from Salem Methodist Church, Red River; Zion Methodist Church, Bonduel; or United Methodist Church, Shawano. Candidates should be motivated and have attained at least a B average (3.00 on a 4.00 system or equivalent) the last two semesters with a solid trend upward the last two years if grades have not always been at that level. 39 SHAWANO EDUCATION ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP The Shawano Education Association established this scholarship in the school year with revisions to the qualifications in the school year. Amount $300 Number 1 Qualifications Application & a. The applicant(s) shall be a graduating senior from Shawano Community High School. b. The applicant shall either be a child of a Shawano Education Association Member (current or retired) or pursuing a post-secondary program in education. c. Only applicants who have maintained a 3.0 or better GPA (on a 4.0 scale) throughout their years of enrollment at Shawano Community High School will be considered. d. The applicant(s) must be of good moral character and exemplify good citizenship throughout their high school years. Applicants should complete the SCHS Local scholarship application form. Click HERE to download application. The SCHS scholarship selection committee shall select two qualified recipients and a runner-up concurrent with the selection of all other SCHS scholarships. The selection committee shall include at least one Shawano Education Association member. Should a member of the committee have a conflict of interest in selecting a recipient, they shall exempt themselves from the decision making process for this scholarship. Collection of the Award The scholarship recipient must provide evidence of having maintained a 3.0 GPA for the first semester of post secondary education, and evidence of enrollment for the next semester. If the recipient does not meet these criteria, the scholarship may be awarded to a runner-up previously selected by the SCHS scholarship committee. Upon submission of evidence to the Shawano Education Association treasurer, payment will be made to the student. The selection committee may demand repayment of the award in cases where they deem such action necessary. 34

40 SHAWANO LAKE LIONESS CLUB SCHOLARSHIP Shawano Lake Lioness Club Amount $1, Number 2 Qualifications 1. A graduating senior from SCHS with the ability to succeed in a chosen field of study. 2. Must be enrolled on a full-time basis at a technical or proprietary school for a least one year. 3. Available to a male or female based on financial need. It is advisable to fill out the financial need selection. 4. Student must have acquired average grades during his/her senior year. 5. Student shall not receive any other local scholarship monies. 42 SHAWANO MASONIC LODGE SCHOLARSHIPS No. 170 F & AM SHAWANO MASONIC LODGE Amount $1, Number 1 Qualifications 1. The recipient must be a graduating senior from a Wisconsin High School, displays a commendable academic record and the potential to successfully continue in a post secondary college or university. This includes a junior college or technical college when the full credit load is acceptable to a degree granting institution. The attending college may be private or public and the course of study must lead toward an associate or baccalaureate degree. 2. The academic course of study selected should be the choice of the student and not a factor in the selection process. It is deemed that the arts, letters, sciences, education, agriculture, business, etc., are all an integral part of the American way of life. 3. The recipient(s) will have demonstrated leadership ability and service as evidence by school, community and church/synagogue involvement. 4. The recipient must initiate schooling within 6 months of receiving the award (in name only) and will receive the actual funds upon receipt of proof of matriculation to college. If the recipient does not enroll in college, the scholarship money should be returned to the Wisconsin Masonic Foundation. 5. The Shawano Masonic Lodge would prefer that its scholarship be awarded to a student meeting all criteria, but who does not otherwise receive scholarships from other sources. 37

Under no circumstances is the Scholarship dollar amount to be divided between students. 3. Whomever the recipient(s), the High School will be responsible for sending a photo of the recipient to Shawano Lodge #170, within 15 days after the scholarship is presented. 4. A copy of the proof of matriculation the High School uses to distribute the scholarship money to the student is expected to be delivered within two (2) weeks or less to the Secretary of Shawano Masonic Lodge. The recipient must initiate schooling within 6 months of receiving the award and will receive the actual funds as follows: Student payment is handled through the District Office. Student must present 1 st semester grades, proof of enrollment for 2 nd semester, mailing address of their financial aids office and their Student ID to: Shawano School District Office 218 County Road B Shawano, WI A check will then be issued to the school on behalf of the recipient of the scholarship. If the school attended is on a 3 quarter system, the monies would be distributed in three equal installments in the manner cited above. 38
