Principles Entrepreneurial Thinking at the University of Calgary Entrepreneurial thinking is being creative in finding innovative solutions. It involves taking initiative, exchanging knowledge across disciplines, being resourceful and learning from experience. Entrepreneurial thinking is essential to enriching lives and advancing society. Overview The Hunter Hub for Entrepreneurial Thinking is dedicated to shared learning, collaboration, connections and knowledge transfer to ultimately further entrepreneurial thinking for students, faculty, postdoctoral scholars, staff and the broader community. The Collegiate Entrepreneurs Organization (CEO) is an international non-profit organization dedicated to establishing networks of post-secondary students interested in entrepreneurship on university campuses. Their mission is to inform, support and inspire college students to be entrepreneurial by providing student entrepreneurs with events, conferences and access to a global network to help start businesses. There are currently over 250 chapters worldwide, with the Hunter Hub CEO being the first in Alberta. The Hunter Hub Collegiate Entrepreneurs Organization (C.E.O.) is a network of university members interested in innovation and entrepreneurial thinking. The Hunter Hub C.E.O. is composed of general members, a student Executive Board and an Advisory Board. Mission Hunter Hub C.E.O. aims to educate, connect and inspire university members interested in innovation and entrepreneurial thinking and to promote events and programming that will engage the greater campus community in entrepreneurial thinking. Eligibility The Hunter Hub C.E.O. is open to all students, staff, faculty, postdoctoral scholars and alumni interested in innovation and entrepreneurial thinking. Events and Programs Opportunity for students to serve on the Hunter Hub C.E.O. Executive Board and community members, staff, faculty and alumni to serve on the Advisory Board Networking events with fellow members and the Hunter Hub s networks Workshops on pitching, investing and other entrepreneurial skills Hub Spotlight Series: interviews with local innovators Hub Crawl to visit local startups and co-working spaces Ramp Up Weekend: a hackathon-style weekend with cash prizes Elevator Pitch Competition with cash prizes C.E.O. 3 Hunter Hub Collegiate Entrepreneurs Organization (C.E.O.) Constitution Office and Duties The Executive shall adhere to this constitution and use it as a reference for operational decisions. Each Executive member is responsible to: Attend meetings Organize events Promote C.E.O. and its events Establish connections with other organizations and community partners Seek potential sponsors and donors Figure 1. 4 Executive Board Positions President Oversee Executive and ensure responsibilities are being fulfilled Consult with and provide support to each VP position Organize biweekly Executive meetings Work closely with Hunter Hub and Advisory Board on event planning and reporting Executive Vice President Work closely with the President to oversee Executive Assist VPs with responsibilities/tasks Work closely with Vice President Internal and Vice President External in event planning Oversee membership recruitment Vice President, Finance and Administration Record membership and attendance at events and meetings Record meeting minutes and book event space Organize arrangements for competitions and conferences Manage finances and develop a budget Provide a financial statement bi-annually Vice President, Communications Create biweekly newsletters for members Manage , including communicating events Respond to member inquiries and requests on both and social media platforms Work closely with Hunter Hub Marketing team Vice President, Design and Marketing Responsible for designing graphics and marketing materials Responsible for updating all social media (Facebook, website, etc.) Develop marketing plan for events Take photos/videos during events Work closely with Hunter Hub Marketing team Vice President, Internal Lead planning of on-campus events Manage member relations Work closely with Vice President, Communications and Vice President, Design and Marketing to promote events Vice President, External Lead planning of community-focused events Work closely with Vice President, Communications and Vice President, Design and Marketing to promote events 4

5 Vice President, Community Relations Develop connections with community partners Seek sponsors and donors, and apply for funding Directors Work closely alongside delegated Vice President(s) to learn from and help in their position Meet with delegated Vice President(s) regularly Advisory Board Senior Leadership Advisor Determine the vision, events, budget and timeline with the Executive Board Faculty Advisors Advise the Executive on potential campus and community partners, promote events and recruit members Alumni Advisor Advise the Executive on potential community partners, opportunities for members to connect with alumni Promote C.E.O. events among their network Entrepreneur in Residence Advise members on entrepreneurial matters Promote C.E.O. events among their network Hunter Hub Advisor Assist the Executive Board in event planning, recruitment and affairs related to the Hub such as finances and marketing Communicate regularly with the Executive Board Election Process The Executive Board will be selected annually at the end of the academic year (April/May) by a committee composed of members from the Advisory Board, outgoing Executive Board and community partner(s). Executive Board Terms of Office Executive Board positions are open to all undergraduate and graduate students. The term of office for all Executive positions shall commence in the Fall semester and end at the same time of the following school year. Executives may resign with two weeks notice by informing the 5

6 President in written or electronic format. Resigning Executives must complete any outstanding duties before leaving and provide information if asked in the future. Executives may be impeached by a majority vote (two-thirds) of the Board. Executives may be impeached for: An ongoing conflict of interest that cannot be resolved; Unethical behaviour; Failure to fulfill the duties and responsibilities assigned; Failure to follow policies and procedures of the organization; or Absence from three meetings without a valid reason. It is the responsibility of the remaining Executives to assume the impeached Executives responsibilities and for the President to fill vacancies. Advisory Board Terms of Office The term of office for Advisory positions shall begin at the time of appointment and end by either voluntary discontinuation or at the discretion of the Hunter Hub. Advisory board members are to be appointed by the Hunter Hub in consultation with the Board. Transition of the Executive Board A. During the transition period from May to August when the new Executive will assume office, it is the responsibility of the outgoing Executive to orient the newly elected Executive officers to their positions. This includes teaching the incoming Executive about the organization s principles and procedures, transitioning custodianship of records and materials (including documents, and social media accounts), and preparing the new Executive to be effective in their roles for the next year. B. It is the responsibility of the outgoing President and VP Finance and Administration to bring all accounts up to date to the end of their term, and to prepare any required financial statements. C. It is the responsibility of the incoming Executive to assume custody of all records and materials and accountability for all financial activities of the organization. Meetings The President may call an Executive meeting at any time, with at least 24 hours notice. There shall be at least one Executive meeting per month during the academic year (September to April). Executive meetings may discuss any business, including: preliminary discussion of ideas and issues, preparation for other meetings, sharing information on a more frequent basis, or conducting specific business. The President or Executive Vice President chairs meetings. In their absence, it is up to them to appoint the chair. The chair determines if quorum is present (50% of executives are present). General Meetings for all members will be held at least once a semester during the academic year and will be announced at least two weeks in advance. General Meetings will report upcoming events and opportunities. 6
