1 Addendum to Common Scholarship Application Scholarships are available for the following majors. Please find your major(s) and review the additional requirements. Also, please consider applying for the Alumni Association Scholarship. For any scholarship application to be complete, you must submit the information below by February 28, All essays should be typed using Times New Roman, 12 font, and should be double spaced with one inch margins. Undergraduate Accounting Accounting students apply through their department, with applications due mid-february. Please contact Dr. Leavins for more information Biology (Bioinformatics, Biology, Cell and Molecular Biology) Business Scholarships are available for students who enroll in the Free Enterprise & Entrepreneurship minor or students who enroll in the Free Enterprise & Entrepreneurship concentration (MBA students only) Please submit an essay describing the ways in which you strive to be an entrepreneur. Chemistry (Biochemistry, Chemistry) Communication Drama Please submit an essay describing how a scholarship would help you to fulfil your career goals. Also, please submit one letter of recommendation.

2 Students wishing to be considered for drama scholarships should contact the Fine Arts and Drama Chair, Prof. Claire McDonald, at to schedule an audition. Be advised that drama majors and drama joint majors have priority in the selection process. Education and Human Services SOE Annual Scholarship Students with a 3.25 or higher cumulative GPA may apply on basis of financial need or for study abroad. Please submit an essay (no longer than two pages) regarding your major, financial need and/or desire to study abroad. For study abroad, provide documentation of enrollment in UST study abroad course. Struddler Family Scholarship Students specializing in special education with a 3.3 or higher cumulative GPA after 54 credit hours. Must be enrolled for one of the following courses: SPED 4325, 4329,4322 or Please submit an essay ( words) about how to use data to improve student learning. de Kanter Dual Language Scholarship Students enrolled in study of dual language with a 3.3 or higher cumulative GPA after 54 credit hours. Please submit an essay (no longer than two pages) reflecting on your personal philosophy of bilingual or dual language education and strong evidence of sensitivity in working with diverse populations related to the teaching profession. Robert Lee Frost Secondary Education Scholarship Students interested in teaching English at the middle school or high school level with a 3.0 or higher cumulative GPA. Please submit an essay in response to a selected piece of poetry preferably by Robert Frost. The essay should exhibit rich imagery, and describe how the piece of poetry influenced the student s life. Kappa Delta Pi / Anna Dewald Scholarship Students who are members of the honor society with a 3.25 or higher cumulative GPA. Members must be current in their dues, have completed two documented service events (provide documentation from the organization sponsor) and submit a professional or personal recommendation. (If asking a SEHS faculty member please give them two weeks notice of this request). Please also submit an essay describing your involvement, service, and participation in education. Include membership in other educational associations and current level of involvement in Kappa Delta Pi. English (English Literature, English Writing)

3 Please submit an essay outlining notable academic achievements and what you hope to accomplish academically and pre-professionally during the upcoming scholarship period, including scholarly endeavors, creative writing projects, as well as plans to attend conferences or study abroad. French Joy Linsley Memorial Scholarship in Creative Writing Students who are English majors, minors or creative writing minors may apply. This scholarship rewards students for excellence in poetry. It requires a submission of a portfolio of original lyric poems (please include name, address, and the title of the work on each page). Submissions should include 5-6 poems, totaling no more than 10 pages. Students majoring in French and with at least a 3.0 GPA, may apply for the French Endowed Scholarship. International Studies/ International Development Pecten Chemical Scholarship in International Studies Full time juniors or seniors with a 3.0 or higher cumulative GPA (who have completed at least one semester at UST). Preference will be given to academically qualified students who also demonstrate need. Please submit an essay ( words) describing why you have chosen to pursue a degree related to international studies and affairs; what your future plans are in association with your degree; and why receiving this scholarship would be important to you. Also, submit to recommendation letters from UST professors, staff, and/or employer who can speak to your academic interests and contributions to UST. Ann Quiggins Tiller Memorial Endowed Scholarship in International Studies - Full time juniors with a 3.5 or higher cumulative GPA (who have completed at least one semester at UST). Preference will be granted to students with demonstrable contributions to the life of the Center. Please submit a two-page essay that reflects upon Dr. Tiller s vision in 1981 that the stark realities of today s global issues demand [that] students should acquire some sensitivity to the existence, diversity and dynamic interrelationship of the many cultures in our world society. This statement dates back more than thirty years. What was the environment thirty years ago that required this vision? How has this environment and the need changed over thirty years? Why would Dr. Tiller be considered such a pioneer and that the Center be considered such a pioneering program? How does the applicant see her/his studies developing the sensitivity that Dr. Tiller felt so important? History

4 To apply for the Crow Family Endowed Scholarship, the Rowen and Mae Cardwell Endowed Scholarship, the Veronica Harvey Doyle History Scholarship, the Rev. Robert Lamb Award in History, and the Joseph and Norma McFadden Scholarship, please provide a short essay explaining why you have selected history as your major field of study and your future goals. In addition, applicants must have completed 24 total hours at an accredited college (all courses taken, not just history; includes transfer credit) and have a minimum GPA of 3.0. Applicants with a GPA lower than 3.0 will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Mathematics (Mathematics, Cooperative Engineering) Music Nursing Philosophy Pre-Law The majority of music scholarships are made at time of admission. If additional awards are offered the music department will contact you if they need additional information. Please submit an essay on one of the following topics: Nursing: Not Only a Career But a Calling What Holistic Nursing Means to Me The Impact of the Nurse on Patient Outcomes What Exactly is a Nurse? Each essay may be no longer than three pages in length. In the upper right hand corner please include your name, date, cohort (2019 or 2020), student ID number, and UST address Please submit an essay of at least 250 words describing the importance of philosophy in your life and in your academic career. 5 Julia Arnold Schnapp Scholarship We invite all psychology majors who will be seniors in the next school year to apply for the Julia Arnold Schnapp Scholarship. Eligible students must meet the following requirements: (a) be a psychology major; (b) will have completed 90+ hours by the start of the fall semester; (c) cannot be on 100% scholarship; and (d) must have at least one more semester to complete their degree. We evaluate applicants based on their academic performance (overall GPA and psychology GPA), and their written responses to three questions: (1) describe your scholarly accomplishments, for example, Dean s list, research activities, honor society memberships (150 words maximum); (2) report your contributions to the Psychology Department, the University of St. Thomas, and the community (150 words maximum); and (3) describe your future goals in psychology in a short essay (300 words maximum). Meier-Marquis Scholarship - We invite all psychology majors with fewer than 90 hours at the start of the next school year to apply for the Meier-Marquis Scholarship. Eligible students must meet the following requirements: (a) be a psychology major; (b) have completed fewer than 90 hours by the start of the fall semester; (c) cannot be on 100% scholarship; (d) must have earned at least an A- in PSYC 3433; and (e) must have at least a 3.5 overall GPA. We evaluate applicants based on their performance in PSYC 3433, their academic performance (overall and psychology GPAs), and their written response (less than 2 pages) to the following prompt: Write about the intersection between social justice and psychology, and explain what that means to you. Other Scholarships Alumni Association Scholarship The University of St. Thomas Alumni Association assists sophomores and juniors who possess the scholastic merit and willingness to continue their education despite financial difficulty. Students applying should have a 2.5 or higher cumulative GPA, and may be enrolled part-time (6-11 credits per term) or full-time (12 or more hours per term). Please submit an a one page essay describing how UST enhances your life, what you receive from your UST education that you don t feel you d receive elsewhere, how you plan to finance your education next year without this award, and how you plan to stay a part of the UST family after graduation. Also, submit a letter of reference from a faculty member (can be submitted directly to Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid if that is preference of faculty member). Last, finalists for this scholarship will be invited to interview with the Alumni Association Board during the spring semester.
