3 Advanced Course for PICC Placement Workshop This workshop is designed for health care professionals who have had hands on experiences in placing PICC at bedside. For those placing PICC in the non Angio rooms, Modified Seldinger Technique has been introduced to facilitate the insertion. Placers are expected to have fundamental knowledge about anatomy, indication of the PICCs, the prevention of CRBSI and how to identify and choose the best tip location for PICC. Besides, placers are urged to place PICC and other CVADs with the facilitation of Ultrasound to improve the success insertion rate and minimize the infection. Those hot topics will be addressed in the workshop. 4 Plenary Sessions SESSION 1: ASSESSMENT AND DEVICE SELECTION FOR VASCULAR ACCESS In this session, the topics, including A Multi-disciplinary Team Approach for Venous Access, Device Selection and Guidelines in USA, Device Selection, Guidelines and Practices in Europe, Prevention and management of complications relating to central venous catheter insertion techniques and Best Practice Guidelines in Asia: Assessment and Device Selection for Venous Access in Cancer Patient Taiwan will be presented. Speakers will not only lead the audience to review how those International Guidelines advise the selection of Central Vascular Access Devices (CVADs) but also share how CVADs have been selected in different markets. Speakers from US, Europe, and Taiwan will share the common practices in their own region/ country. The cases on inappropriate usage of vascular access devices will be presented to reinforce the importance of early vascular assessment and the benefits of CVADs to prevent those complications. The purpose for this session is to provide a comprehensive knowledge about who needs CVADs, and how CVADs shall be used to preserve patients veins. 5 SESSION 2: VENIPUNCTURE / INSERTION In this session, the topics, including Review major international guidelines for PICC indications and techniques, Ultrasound Guided Vein Puncture: Advantages and Practical Guide, How to manage the patency and efficiency of implanted port devices from the perspectives of surgical cut-down approach, Optimal CVAD Tip Position Difficult Vascular Access Situations and Mechanical complications of long term venous access will be presented. The speaker, RN Stacy Buckley, collects the major international guidelines and summaries the advices and suggestions on the catheter insertion skills and procedures. According to CDC s guidelines, to improve the success insertion rates and minimize the potential infection, physicians are strongly suggested to use Ultrasound to facilitate the insertion of vascular access devices. The speaker Prof Po-Jen, Ko will share his personal experiences on how Ultrasound has benefited him and his patients. Besides venepuncture, the cut-down surgery is the other way for placers to place vascular access devices. The speaker, Dr. Ching-Yang Wu, will share his experiences on cut-down surgeries. Prof Kim Jang-Yong will talk about where is the best tip position and how to check the tip position before using CVADs. Audiences will be presented with evidence-based researches and be explained why the tip position is so important to patients. Prof B. Gebauer will talk about the topic Difficult Vascular Access Situations and lead the discussion on the solutions for a variety of difficult cases. Prof Tan Bien-Soo will share his personal experiences and talk about the topic Prevention and management of complications relating to central venous catheter insertion techniques. Dr. Anushya Vijayananthan will share how to manage mechanical complicates of long term venous access from Interventional Radiologist perspectives. 6 SESSION 3: HOT TOPICS In practices, some topics have been always discussed. Those topics raised the questions including how to manage and prevent the CLABSI, whether the PICC team may provide the exclusive benefits to the patients, who and when needs power injection, where is the best place to insert PICC, and so on. Before we close the 1 st MACOVA, our speakers will share their personal experiences and perspectives on these debatable topics and audiences are encouraged to participate in the discussion in the last session. The point is to find an answer for those topics but to lead the audience to think through what they have learnt from the event.
