WHAT IS A SEMINAR AT HITOTSUBASHI? Hitotsubashi University emphasizes small-group class education, and one of the prominent characteristics is our seminar style approach. The seminar style approach keeps class sizes small; the participants number about a dozen per grade at most, and often less, thus preserving a traditional private-school style that both focuses on intense student-faculty interaction and provides rich course content. Exchange students with high proficiency in Japanese may apply to join a seminar conducted in Japanese. Also, there are seminars conducted in English, designed especially for first-timers in Japan. This highly personalized approach to education helps to ensure that the professor s instruction truly reaches the students while forgoing strong ties among seminar members.

COURSE REGISTRATION Exchange students should register for a minimum of 12 credits per semester. Typically, two-credit courses meet once a week for 1.5 hours over a 15-week long semester.

LANGUAGE REQUIREMENT Exchange Students are required to fulfill one or more of the following qualification criteria. English: TOEFL (PBT) 550 / TOEFL (ibt) 79 / IELTS(academic module) 6.5 *N/A for native speaker of English. Japanese: JLPT Level 2, N2 or equivalent GPA SCORE REQUIREMENT Exchange Students must have GPA 2.7 or above on a 4.0 scale. SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES FOR EXCHANGE STUDENTS: Partner universities may nominate exchange students for following scholarships: Japanese Government Scholarship (Monbukagakusho: MEXT) Japan Student Services Organization Scholarship (JASSO) Josui-kai Scholarship (Hitotsubashi University s Alumni Association) APPLICATIONS: Students wishing to apply for student exchange should submit the application forms through the relevant office of their home institution. Applications submitted directly from the applicants will not be accepted. 3 HOUSING: Hitotsubashi University has two dormitories for exchange students; International House on Kunitachi Campus and International Village on Kodaira Campus. International House in Kunitachi International House on Kunitachi campus opened in 1992 to accommodate foreign students and researchers. Those living in single rooms share shower rooms, a kitchen and lounge area. There are four Japanese students who live there as resident assistants. Address: 2-1 Naka, Kunitachi, Tokyo (On Kunitachi campus) International Village in Kodaira International Village is a residence complex for the students of Hitotsubashi University (both Japanese and international students) and international students of Tokyo Gakugei University, Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology, and University of Electro-Communications. There are Residential Assistants (RA) and Community Assistants (CA) who live there to offer support for fellow residents. From Hitotsubashi University s Kunitachi campus, International Village is about 20 min away by train or bicycle (6km). Address: Gakuen Nishimachi, Kodaira-shi, Tokyo FACILITIES Each resident will have his/her own single room. There will be a common area to be shared with residents on the same floor. Single Room single bed, desk, chair, wardrobe, bookshelf, air conditioner, telephone, table lamp, small refrigerator Common Area kitchen, dining/lounge room, washrooms, shower rooms, laundry rooms with washing machines and dryers *Please note that there is no storage for residents. Bringing a large amount of luggage should be avoided. *Smoking is prohibited in both International House and International Village. DORMITORY FEES* Deposit: A one-time deposit of JPY 30,000 will be charged when moving in. When moving out, the deposit will be refunded after deducting cleaning expenses for the room and the bed mattress. If an excessive damage is found in the room, an extra amount will be charged. Please read the following website thoroughly and confirm the eligibility criteria: If you have a nominee, please submit the application material in due course. If you have more than one nominee, please rank them in order of your institution s recommendation on the Nomination List.
