Recognizing the important work already underway in Alabama and with a goal of long-term sustainable change, AL- HAC leads the way to improve the health of the population. 6

11 AL-HAC ACCOMPLISHMENTS CONTINUED Began a fundraising campaign with a goal of reaching $75,000 Jonas Scholars active in the work of AL-HAC Web domains secured by Alacare for the AL-HAC AlaONE Board of Directors supported the prescriptive authority bill for nurse practitioners and clinical nurse midwives Finalized the plan for the 2013 Health Summit Incorporation of the 2010 IOM Report recommendations in the AlaONE Annual Leadership 2013 Conference AL-HAC: NEXT STEPS Execute communication and media plan to include networks of diverse audiences Operationalize the RWJF SIP Grant proposal if selected Work toward a paid director and administrative support Aggressive fund raising efforts for sustainability Survey nurse participation on boards across Alabama Begin to work toward operationalizing the goals of the 2013 Health Summit 11

12 WHAT IS AT STAKE IF WE DO NOT CHANGE? Alabama s health rankings will continue as some of the worst in the nation (ranked 45th in 2012, 46th in 2011). Large numbers of Alabamians will remain uninsured and without access to primary and preventative health care. NPs in Alabama will continue to be restricted in practicing to the full extent of their education and training, thus further reducing access to care and causing NPs to flee the state. True interprofessional collaborative practice models, shown to result in safer, more effective care, will suffer. TAKE HOME POINTS Nursing is the catalyst for the Campaign for Action Goals to enhance access to care and improve health outcomes through inter-professional collaboration Action Coalitions exist in all 50 states and the District of Columbia Being an Action Coalition (AC) is a designation and entitles the AC to non-monetary resources from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and AARP 12

13 TAKE HOME POINTS Each State is structured differently; funded and non-funded Each State has different priorities based on their needs Ongoing evaluation of the plan to include a dash board with metrics and outcomes and revise as needed RWJF SIP Grant finalist Successfully achieved $75,000 seed money for SIP Grant ACTION COALITIONS NEED THE FOLLOWING TO BE SUCCESSFUL Strong Leaders Diverse Stakeholders Financial Resources Results Oriented 13
