We are recognized by national partners such as the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and others for our leadership on issues such as academic progression and increasing diversity in the workforce, and are now focused on building a Culture of Health in every community in the Commonwealth. 22 Massachusetts Action Coalition Strategic Priorities VISION To be the national model for nurses leading, and partnering to boldly influence and transform health care while promoting a culture of health in Massachusetts MISSION Guided by the Institute of Medicine report, The Future of Nursing: Leading Change, Advancing Health and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation s vision to Build a Culture of Health, the Massachusetts Action Coalition (MAAC) is leading the statewide effort to improve the health for all segments of the population through nursing leadership and collaborative partnerships GOALS Prepare a more diverse nursing & healthcare workforce to advance a culture of health in Massachusetts Increase the diversity in the workforce by articulating clear, accelerated education pathways from LPN- BSN/higher degrees Increase the number of diverse faculty by creating opportunities to attract, recruit and retain qualified nurses into academic educator roles Link the Nurse of the Future Competencies to cross sector competencies to enhance a culture of health Increase nursing engagement to participate & lead in population health initiatives, serving on boards, taskforces and regional coalitions Develop strategic partnerships MA Action Coalition is partnership of the MA Department of Higher Education and the Organization of Nurse Leaders

25 Promoting Health Literacy Project Promoting Health Literacy to Influence Health and Wellness of Students in the Community Key Partnerships: MA Health Council (MHC), School Nurses (MSNO) Public Health Nurses (MAPHN), School Wellness Committees and the National Library of Medicine (NLM) MAAC nurses will be prepared to join selected school wellness committees to introduce the health literacy topic and share the NLM resources to better inform the school wellness programing The nurses will support additional student wellness initiatives as identified by the specific community and as well as promote MHC s goal to ensure clean water drinking access and decreasing sugary beverages consumption [Venue/Audience] [Date] [Speaker name and title]
