Royal Surrey County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust Benefiting Patients Wish List
Charity aims The charity s primary aim is to support services that directly, or have the potential to, benefit patients of the Royal Surrey. This is principally through the provision of medical equipment, improved/enhanced facilities and education, learning and development that are not normally provided by the hospital through NHS funding mechanism. In exceptional cases funding is provided to support medical posts for a defined period when the patient benefit can be recognised, such as trialling a new procedure or contributing to the initial costs of establishing a new service at the hospital. Your donations keep this support going Without your help we would be unable to purchase equipment and other facilities that go beyond NHS provision. Ultimately, our aim is to improve the patient experience here at the Royal Surrey and provide the best care anywhere. We have over 70 trust funds which form the Royal Surrey s charity, including the current appeal and St Luke s Cancer Centre. We also have a General Fund which can be used in any area of the hospital where it is needed most at any given time. Supporters donate for many reasons Those who want the best possible care for their friends and family. Individuals and businesses who wish to give to support their community and give regularly. Those who have received a good service and wish this for others. Family members often donate in memory of a loved one as a thank you for the care received. 2
Can you help your local hospital by making a donation towards our Wish List? Would you like to make a donation towards a piece of equipment in a specific department of the Royal Surrey? We have created this booklet to enable our supporters to do just that. We have visited our wards and departments and asked the clinical staff what they would wish for to benefit their patients. A donation of 5 will help buy books for the Children s A&E department. A gift of 100 could be used to purchase two reminisence boxes for patients with dementia. Perhaps you work for a company who may like to choose us as Charity of the Year? A fundraising effort with your colleagues could raise enough money to purchase a bladder scanner for patients on Hindhead ward. Are you a member of a community group such as Rotary or a Golf Club? A year-long fundraising initiative may enable us to supply monitors for the Endoscopy unit. We welcome all donations, no matter how small. Mighty oaks from little acorns grow THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT! 3
Childrens A&E Departments Paediatric Fingertip Pulse Oximeter A portable saturation probe, ideal when transferring children from A&E to the ward. Wall Stickers To brighten waiting areas and consultation rooms Buzzy In a busy A&E dept, nurses and doctors are sometimes too busy waiting for numbing creams for needle procedures. Buzzy, a vibrating bee with ice pack wings help in the same way that rubbing a bumped elbow helps stop the pain. A fun and quick way to prepare for an injection. 4
Childrens A&E Department Distraction books for all ages, great for use during procedures. Books When children come to A&E they are often scared and so being able to provide some great books and games will help reduce their fear. Touch Tablets For children to play on when having a procedure, a great distraction method! Childrens 50pc wooden building blocks To keep children entertained whilst waiting to see a Nurse or Doctor. 5
Radiology Radiology can be very daunting for children and we would like to provide a bright, fun and friendly waiting area for little ones visiting in order that they are calm and relaxed for their imaging. Childrens Activities 500 This will allow us to puchase a small table and chairs, a play kitchen and wall murals. Endoscopy Unit Olympus High Definition LCD Monitor OEV262H Two Monitors 15k. The unit would benefit from two high definition monitors which are used by clinicians and their teams to watch procedures on patients in real time. 6
Chilworth Cooling - Cap for Chemotherapy Patients 40k The Dignicap is the latest piece of technology that can significantly reduce hair loss in most cases, allowing patients to keep all or most of their hair while recieving certain types of chemotherapy treatments. Compton Ward ECG Machine 3k Enhancing the service to patients, an additional ECG machine will allow for more ECG recordings for major surgery patients. 7
Dementia Forget-Me-Not Fund Reminiscence boxes 50 The use of Reminiscence Boxes in our older patient unit improves orientation and encourages increased levels of communication between carers, patients and their families. The content will reflect the owners life and provide invaluable information to carers and provides a focus point on the ward and a trigger for discussion with the patients. Digital Reminiscence Therapy 5k To provide memory therapy for dementia and neurology patients, the My Life reminiscence software package includes a touch screen interactive system, which can be used at the patient s bedside, and contains a huge range of photographs, video clips, radio shows, music and lyrics dating back to the 1930 s. Virtual Dementia Tour Train the Trainer. 5k Provision of enhanced dementia training, giving the participants the opportunity to experience dementia first hand. Having facilitators in house will be more cost effective than having an external trainer and will increase staff knowledge and empathy and reduce the likelihood of patients / family experiencing distress / agitation whilst in hospital. 8
Albury Ward Temporal Thermometer Helps to check a patients temperature by sliding scanner on the forehead. Particularly useful for patients with breathing difficulties. Hindhead Ward Portable ultrasound bladder scanner 8k Helps to diagnose and evaluate many common urological conditions in patients. Eliminates unneccesary trauma to patients and helps monitor post operative recovery. Elstead Ward Mobile Drip Stand 100 each Additional mobile drip stands for use by our patients following gynaecology and breast surgery. These mobile drip stands will mean patients with intravenous infusions will not be confined to their beds. 9
Childrens Unit Christmas decorations and toys 200 Various types of toys and for our childrens unit to make a child s visit a postive experience. It would be super to have some Christmas decorations in the unit for the festival season. Onslow Ward Arjo Maxi Move Hoist 7.5k This hoist is used in moving patients and is also capable of weighing so perfect for accurately managing nutrition needs in less mobile patients. Arjo Sara Stedy 2k A mobility aid which has an integrated seat used to transfer patients promoting independence and can be used in therapy as a rehabilitation aid. 10
