2 Welcome to the Illinois College of Emergency Physicians 2016 Spring Symposium & Annual Business Meeting! Highlights of the agenda: A critical care panel discussion featuring Nicholas Mohr, MD, MS, FACEP, Matthew Siedsma, MD, and David Barounis, MD will discuss new developments in critical care for the emergency physician and how it can impact clinical outcomes of patients cared for in the emergency department. The point-counterpoint format will include research and policy implications. Heather M. Prendergast, MD, MS, MPH, FACEP will examine the heart failure management paradigm from the ED to hospital admission and discharge, including diagnosing acute heart failure accurately and analyzing evidence to support current and novel therapies for treatment. This session is presented in conjunction with Novartis. The Resident Speaker Forum will showcase novice speakers from each residency in a lecture competition, with feedback and a winner selected by an expert panel of judges. A Statewide Research Showcase will spotlight the best in Illinois emergency medicine research, featuring oral presentations and research posters. 17 ANNUAL BUSINESS MEETING ANNUAL BUSINESS MEETING Annual Business Meeting April 30, 2015 MINUTES The 2015 Annual Business Meeting of the Illinois College of Emergency Physicians (ICEP) was held on April 30, 2015 at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in conjunction with the 2015 ICEP Spring Symposium. President David Griffen, MD, PhD, FACEP, called the meeting to order at 11:45 AM. I. President s Report Dr. Griffen thanked all of the individuals who made the meeting possible, including Northwestern Memorial Hospital and the event sponsors. Dr. Griffen reviewed some of the accomplishments of the past year, including ACEP14 in Chicago; the inaugural Leadership Development Forum for young physicians; and the success of Advocacy Day in Springfield. He discussed the value of ICEP membership, highlighting its efforts in education, advocacy, practice resources, and collaboration. He recognized the Board members, Committee chairs, and ICEP staff, honoring staff members Kate Blackwelder and Tammy Swanson for 10 years of service to ICEP in II. Recognition of Outgoing Board Members Dr. Griffen recognized ICEP s four outgoing Board members: Scott French, MD, FACEP; Dino Rumoro, DO, FACEP; Edward J. Ward, MD, MPH, FACEP; and resident member Archit Gulati, MD. All were thanked for their service to ICEP. III. Announcement of Board Election Results Dr. Griffen announced the results of the Board of Directors elections. Five active members and one resident member were elected in The active members elected were incumbent Valerie J. Phillips, MD, FACEP and new members Christine Babcock, MD, FACEP; Steve Christos, DO, MS, FACEP; Janet Lin, MD, MPH; and Henry Pitzele, MD, FACEP. Dallas Holladay, DO, was elected as the resident member. Dr. Griffen congratulated the incoming Board members. IV. Presentation of Awards A. Downstate Member Award Dennis T. Uehara, MD, FACEP was presented with the Downstate Member Award, which is conferred upon an ICEP member from outside the metropolitan Chicago area who has made a consistent effort to advance emergency medicine in Illinois despite lengthy travel. Dr. Uehara has been actively involved with ICEP for more than 30 years. He is an ICEP Past President and served on the Board of Directors from 1981 to His extensive involvement includes membership on numerous committees, serving as a Councillor for 10 years, and holding officer positions leading up to his presidency in Dr. Uehara remains involved with ICEP today, in frequent attendance at educational programs.

18 2016 ICEP B. ICEP Meritorious Service Award Dino P. Rumoro, DO, FACEP, was presented with the ICEP Meritorious Service Award to recognize his significant contribution to the advancement of emergency medicine by exemplary service. Dr. Rumoro is an ICEP Past President and served on the Board of Directors from 2002 to He was re-elected to the Board in 2009 one of the rare members interested in a second opportunity on the Board and has continued to serve through his second term that ends in May. He has also served as chair of several ICEP committees and as faculty for ICEP s flagship board review courses. C. Bill B. Smiley Meritorious Service Award Rebecca Parker, MD, FACEP was honored with the Bill B. Smiley Meritorious Service Award, ICEP s highest honor, in recognition of her contributions to the advancement of emergency medicine in Illinois. Dr. Parker served on ICEP s Board of Directors and later on ICEP s Executive Committee as a member-at-large, secretary-treasurer and then president-elect until she was elected to the ACEP Board of Directors in Dr. Parker has continued to represent Illinois at the national level when she was elected to a second term on the ACEP Board of Directors in She currently serves as Chair of the ACEP Board. D. ACEP Honorary Membership 2015 Dr. Griffen announced that ICEP Executive Director Virginia Kennedy Palys, JD, was a recipient of the ACEP Honorary Membership award in Ms. Kennedy Palys will be recognized at ACEP s Awards Ceremony as part of the ACEP15 in Boston. V. ACEP Update ACEP Board of Directors Chair Rebecca Parker, MD, FACEP gave a short update on ACEP activities. She reviewed the value of emergency medicine and explored the impact of value-based purchasing and physician quality reporting systems, discussing ACEP s Clinical Emergency Data Registry. She also highlighted recent advocacy campaigns and other key ACEP programs and partnerships. VI. Passing the Gavel Dr. Griffen introduced incoming president John W. Hafner, Jr., MD, MPH, FACEP and turned over the gavel symbolizing the ICEP presidency to him. As Dr. Hafner assumed the presidency, he thanked Dr. Griffen for his outstanding service to the College over the past year. He presented Dr. Griffen with a plaque commemorating his year as President and a thank you gift on behalf of the Board, membership, and staff. VII.
