3 WELCOME - 1 Dear Student, The Departments of Residence Life welcome you to campus. Whether you are a new or returning student, we hope that this will be a great year for you. Your college experience at ERAU should be exciting, rewarding, and fun and living in the residence halls can contribute to a positive and successful college experience. The best way to make the most of your college and residence hall experience is to get involved. Concerts, clubs, pool parties, cookouts, sports, educational events, and special trips are just some of the programs sponsored by the Residence Life staff, Embry-Riddle Resident Student Association (ERRSA), and the office of Student Activities & Campus Events. The more you get involved, the more you will feel a part of ERAU. By meeting new people from different countries, cultures, and backgrounds; learning from others; and making lifelong friends, we believe your ERAU experience will be a valuable one. This guide contains useful information to help you adjust to life in campus housing. The Residence Life and Housing Operations staff are here to help you. The Residence Life office is located in the Student Village, 104 Tallman Commons and is open Monday Friday, 8 a.m. 5 p.m., summer hours may vary.. We wish you the best for a great year! 4 2 - DEPARTMENT OF RESIDENCE LIFE DEPARTMENT OF RESIDENCE LIFE The Department of Residence Life are dedicated to serving residents by providing living environments that are conducive to learning and personal growth. Comfortable, safe, and well-maintained residential facilities meet the basic living needs of residents and amenities are provided that enhance student satisfaction. Recognizing that student learning occurs both inside and outside of the classroom, educational success is promoted through a comprehensive scope of programs and services within the residential setting. Elements of the learning process are intentionally brought into the residence halls in order to extend the learning experience. Positive residential environments are created that promote community development and foster small group relationships among residents. Within these environments, residents bond collegially, which promotes loyalty to each other and to the University. RESIDENCE LIFE STAFF Professional Full-Time Staff The Director, along with the, Assistant Directors, and Area Coordinators are full-time, professional staff members who each have a minimum of a master s degree in Higher Education, College Student Development, or a related field and have been trained to work with college students. These staff are specifically responsible for supervising the Senior Resident Advisors and Resident Advisors, advising and mentoring students, responding to campus emergencies, and helping students become academically and socially successful. Residence Hall Student Staff Senior Resident Advisors (SRA) and Resident Advisors (RA) are assigned to each wing/ floor in the residence halls. SRAs and RAs are student leaders who build community on their wings and assist their residents in becoming successful during their time in the ERAU residence halls. S/RAs serve as activity planners, peer counselors, policy enforcers, role models, and friends for the students living in their areas. S/RAs are available to assist you at the front desks of Apollo Hall, Doolittle Hall, McKay Hall, O Connor Hall, and Tallman Commons in the Student Village. An S/RA is also available in the Chanute complex study lounge (1641 #6). In addition to answering questions and monitoring the lobbies, S/RAs work to promote the wellbeing of residents by securing doors and enforcing hall policies. Normal operating hours for the desks are from 7 p.m. to 12am. Sunday Thursday and 7 p.m. 1a.m. Friday Saturday.

5 POLICIES - 3 POLICIES For the purpose of these rules and policies, a resident is defined as a person assigned to an ERAU managed residence hall space. Throughout this publication, public areas are defined as those areas available for use by all students living in a suite, on a wing, a floor, or within the entire building. For the most up to date version of this Policy Guide, please refer to the ERAU Daytona Beach Residence Life Webpage. Apollo Hall: (386) Doolittle Hall: (386) McKay Hall: (386) O Connor and Stimpson Halls: (386) Adams and Wood Halls: (386) Chanute Complex: (386) AIR CONDITIONERS A minimum of 18 of clearance around air conditioners (a/c) units must be provided in order for the unit to operate properly and to allow access for filter changes and repairs. Do not tamper with the thermostats. Non Housing issued air conditioners are prohibited in all residence halls. The a/c unit should be operated consistently at a moderate level (ideally degrees), and should not be running while other outside doors and/or windows are open. Failure to do so may cause condensation to occur, which may contribute to air quality control issues. Make sure to leave your a/c unit on when you are away for extended periods of time or upon check-out. ALCOHOL An individual who chooses to drink retains the responsibility for his or her behavior and conduct, both on and off campus. The following guidelines will assist staff and students in understanding the University s Alcohol Policy: Classification Beer & wine are the only types of alcohol permitted on campus. Hard liquor of any kind, wine coolers, and malt beverages are prohibited at ERAU. Kegs, party balls, and other common sources of alcohol are also prohibited. Participation in drinking games (such as beer pong) is considered dangerous and is prohibited. Possession According to the laws of the state of Florida, minors (persons under the age of 21) may not possess or be in the presence of alcohol. Students who are 21 years of age or older may not possess alcohol in the presence of a minor. Quantity The maximum amount of alcohol that a student of legal drinking age may possess in approved areas on campus is up to 12 bottles of beer AND up to 2 bottles of wine. Distribution According to the laws of the state of Florida, persons of legal drinking age may not supply alcohol to minors (persons under the age of 21). Consumption According to the laws of the state of Florida, minors (persons under the age of 21) may not consume alcohol. A person who is of the legal drinking age may consume alcohol in permitted locations, provided that everyone in his/her presence (including their room/suite) is also of the legal drinking age. Location Alcohol may be consumed inside the residence halls in bedrooms, suites, and living rooms, provided that everyone present is of the legal drinking age. Alcohol is only permitted to be consumed or stored in rooms and suites where all residents and guests are over 21. Alcohol is not allowed in public/common areas including, but not limited to lounges, study rooms, hallways, stairwells, balconies, courtyards, or other areas outside of the residence halls. Intoxication Intoxication by a minor (person under the age of 21) is considered a violation of Florida law, regardless of where the drinking occurred, thus is prohibited. Intoxication by a person of legal drinking age that leads to disorderly conduct is a violation of university policy.

6 4 - POLICIES Paraphernalia Alcohol paraphernalia is considered items possessed in a room/suite. This includes items used in conjunction with consumption, binge drinking, communal drinking, etc. The use of alcohol containers for decoration is prohibited for ALL residence hall students, regardless of age or type of bottle. Empty beer, wine, and liquor bottles are prohibited. Manufacturing The manufacturing of alcohol anywhere on University owned property is strictly prohibited. Confiscation Residence Life staff (AD/AC/RA) and Campus Safety & Security personnel reserve the right to confiscate and dispose of alcohol if it is in violation of any of the aforementioned policies. Additionally, students may be asked to pour out any alcohol and dispose of the containers properly. Identification Any university official/staff member has the right to request appropriate student identification when questioning an individual s age for alcohol related purposes. *Flight Students Per the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), flight students found in violation of any of the alcohol policies will be grounded immediately upon the alleged violation, and may be grounded for a minimum of three months. Flight students should plan to meet with the chairman of the Flight Department within two weeks of the alcohol violation. *Parental Notification Students under 21 found in violation of the alcohol policy will be subject to parental notification. ALTERATIONS & FURNITURE The unauthorized movement of furniture from one room to another and/or the alteration of a room or its furnishings is prohibited. Contact the Housing Operations office with any questions. Common area furniture is for the use of everyone; therefore, furniture may not be removed from the lounges and/ or common areas. Residents found possessing lounge/ common area furniture and/or cushions will be fined and/ or judicially referred. No additional locks of any kind may be added to any doors, including bathrooms or common rooms. All doors must be accessible in case of emergencies. BEDS & LOFTS As Housing Operations provides each student with a bed, residents are not permitted to bring their own bed. Lofts not supplied by the University are prohibited in all residence hall facilities or apartment complexes. Beds may not be elevated with cinder blocks or by any means other than Housing Operations supplied loft kits. Failure to comply with these policies may result in a $50 fine and/or judicial referral. A limited number of loft kits are available for McKay Hall and the Student Village. Loft kits are available on a first come first serve basis. A student can submit a maintenance request at com for a loft kit to be placed in their room. CLEANLINESS Rooms and bathrooms are to be kept neat and clean at all times. Residence Life staff members will conduct health and safety inspections regularly. Failure to maintain the cleanliness of your room and bathroom will result in fines and/or judicial referral. Students must provide their own cleaning supplies. Refrigerators must be emptied upon check-out or if away for extended periods of time. Good housekeeping is a must dust and vacuum frequently. Keep showers and bathroom areas clean and free of mildew. Do not let trash build up in the rooms/suites. Residents must remove all trash/ recycling and dispose of it in designated areas. CONSOLIDATION OF ROOMS/ VACANCIES Unless otherwise indicated all rooms are double occupancy. If after the room change and consolidation period, a vacancy exists in a room, Housing Operations considers that bed space available for use. It is imperative that vacant spaces are kept clean and empty. When possible Residence Life & Housing Operations will notify residents of new roommates, however there may be times when notification does not occur. Residents may not deliberately intimidate, reject or discourage potential roommates from occupying the vacancy. Residents who fail to properly maintain a vacancy will held accountable for their actions. COMMUNICABLE OR CONTAGIOUS ILLNESS Residents must immediately report any suspected case of

7 POLICIES - 5 communicable or contagious illness to Health Services. Students diagnosed with a communicable disease proving to be a health threat to other residents may be relocated to an alternate room on campus until determined to no longer be contagious. Staff will make every effort to maintain privacy of a student who has knowledge of testing positive for any communicable disease. The temporary relocations process may begin by University staff or by student disclosure. COURTESY & QUIET HOURS When a resident is asked by another resident or an RA to lower the volume of noise, this request must be complied with, regardless of the time of day or night. Students should be considerate of their neighbors at all times. Courtesy hours are in effect 24 hours a day. Courtesy hours are defined as times when noise of any kind is disruptive to a resident during non-designated quiet hours. Quiet hours are defined as a time when all students must keep the volume of all noise to a minimum, so as to not disrupt fellow residents. There are specified quiet hours for evenings and weekends, and special study/quiet hours during exam times. Quiet hours are: Sun - Thurs: 10:00 p.m. to 8:00a.m. Fri - Sat: Midnight to 10:00a.m. Courtesy and quiet hours are strictly enforced and any violators are subject to judicial referral. DAMAGES & VANDALISM Residents are expected to act responsibly and to respect all University residential facilities. All residents will be held accountable for any damages or vandalism caused by themselves or their guests and will be fined and/ or judicially referred accordingly. Any damage caused will result in a charge to the person(s) responsible. All occupants of a residence hall room, apartment, or suite are jointly responsible for the care of that room and its furnishings. Charges for damages to public areas and equipment may be made to all students assigned to specific wings, floors, or entire residence halls, as appropriate. Students are encouraged to report vandalism. Information provided which leads to a judicial referral may result in a reward of up to one half of the value of the damage. Housing Operations does not provide invoices or receipts for costs due to damages or vandalism. DECORATIONS Residents are encouraged to add personal touches to their rooms such as posters, pictures and other decorations to the residence hall room walls. However, they must abide by the following: 1. No items are allowed to be hung from the ceiling, sprinkler heads, or smoke detectors. 2. Painters tape is recommended. DO NOT use stickers, decals, putty, nails, screws, hooks, or adhesive foam pads on walls or ceilings. 3. Painting of any residence hall or University property is not allowed. 4. Due to potential fire hazards, no items may cover or obstruct light fixtures. Lights must be kept free from any/ all materials. 5. No live cut trees are permitted in the residence halls. 6. Any holiday decorations in common areas must be removed before break periods. Otherwise, a clean-up fee will be assessed. 7. When posting decorations in common areas (i.e. outside of doors, windows facing outside your room, etc.), good judgment should be used. 8. Please note that prior to check out, everything must be removed from walls for final room inspection. *ERAU reserves the right to remove any materials that it deems inappropriate. Failure to comply with these regulations will result in a fine for repairs and/or judicial referral. DISRESPECTFUL BEHAVIOR Students are expected to respect the University staff, faculty, and other students. Using foul language, ignoring a request (written or verbal) from an ERAU official, becoming aggressive or defiant, etc., are all considered disrespectful and will result in judicial action. Students who threaten, intimidate, or coerce other students; or participate in behavior which purposely annoys, hurts, or frightens another student may be charged with harassment. This includes behavior that is verbal or written. For a comprehensive listing of related policies, please refer to the Student Handbook. ELEVATORS Vandalizing, horseplay, and/or misuse of the phone, alarm, or anything harmful concerning the elevators is considered a violation of policy and will result in judicial referral(s) for the student(s) involved. Elevators are provided for the convenience of students and

8 6 - POLICIES guests. Students are encouraged to confront others who abuse this privilege and to report to the Residence Life staff or Campus Safety & Security anyone known to violate this policy. EXAM WEEK Exam week is a serious time, and it is unfair to those residents who are still studying to be subjected to disruption from other students. 24 hr. quiet hours start at 10 p.m. on the last day of classes. Students who are referred during the last two weeks of each semester must report to the Residence Life office the during the next business day, during business hours to respond to the charges. Students found responsible for violations during these two weeks will be fined $50 per violation in addition to other sanctions. Violations of ERAU or Residence Life policies which occur during exam week may result in revocation of overflight or previously granted break housing. EXTENSION CORDS Environmental Health and Safety Department and the Florida Fire Marshal have establish extension cord guidelines. Cords cannot exceed 10 feet in length Cords must be UL approved three pronged extension cords. Cords cannot impede safe traffic Cords must have built in surge protectors Only one outlet strip may be used per outlet and you may not plug power strips into one another. FIRE/EMERGENCY EQUIPMENT & PROCEDURES Misuse of, vandalism to, or tampering with fire and emergency equipment, including but not limited to fire extinguishers, alarms, fire pull boxes, hoses, sprinkler heads and smoke detectors; AED devices, MED club and Campus Safety property, blue phones, and video surveillance equipment, and any other emergency equipment or instruments is prohibited. Residents may not remove, damage, or cover smoke detectors. Falsely causing/activating a fire alarm is a federal offense and may result in suspension or dismissal from the University. Residents and their guests are required by state law to evacuate a building in the event of a fire alarm. Students must adhere to directives of University officials/staff and/ or emergency personnel and report to their designated area. During an evacuation, the building is not to be reentered until proper authorization is given. Failure to comply with evacuation procedures will result in a fine and/or judicial referral. Each residence hall is equipped with fire extinguishers in various locations. Residents should familiarize themselves with these locations. FAILURE TO COMPLY & EAGLE CARD Failure or refusal to comply with verbal or written requests/ directions from a University official acting in an official capacity is a violation. Each student is required to have an ERAU campus mailbox which should be checked 3 times per week and an ERAU account which should be checked daily, both of which are considered the central communication point through which a student may always be reached by University personnel. Additionally, all students are required to have an Eagle card and to carry it with them at all times while on University property. Each student should be prepared to identify oneself and surrender one s student ID upon request of a University official, including but not limited to faculty and staff members, Resident Advisors, and Campus Safety & Security officers. GUESTS The following policies apply to on and off campus guests who visit students living in the residence halls/ apartments and to the residents themselves: 1. The right to study/sleep and privacy supersedes the right to having visitation privileges. 2. A guest is a person who comes to a residence hall during a period of visitation at the invitation of a resident. A guest must be within 10 feet of their resident host at all times. 3. All guests in the residence halls must be at least 18 years of age, unless the guest is an underage student currently enrolled at ERAU. 4. Residents are responsible for informing guest about the Residence Life Policies and the Student Honor Code. Every guest is subject to ERAU rules and regulations. Residents are responsible for ensuring that guests comply with all residence hall policies. Residents will be held

9 POLICIES - 7 accountable and possible judicial action may be taken for the behavior of their guests. ERAU reserves the right to deny access to any guest if it has been determined that such person has violated a residence hall or ERAU policy and/or disturbed, endangered, or disrupted the activities of any resident. 5. Due to potential fire hazard, each resident is allowed a maximum of two guests during approved visitation hours. Residents are permitted to have a maximum of two (2) overnight guests for a maximum of five(5) nights during a consecutive thirty (30) day period, provided that approval is given by all roommates/suitemates. No guests may exceed the five-night stay by changing hosts. 6. Overnight guests are not allowed during break times or during the first or last two weeks of each semester. 7. Each resident is assigned to a specific space in a room/ apartment. Only that resident is allowed to live in that assigned space; therefore, students are not allowed to have another person living in their assigned space/ apartment. This includes a person not assigned to the space/apartment who uses that space/apartment as if they were living there. Examples of this may include, but are not limited to accessing the room or apartment while the assigned occupants are not present, utilizing a key to enter a room or apartment to which one is not assigned (see key policy), keeping clothing and other personal belongings in the residence hall room or apartment, sleeping overnight in the room/apartment on a regular basis, and using the bathroom/shower facilities as if they lived in that room/ apartment. When guests or visitors continual presence hinders a roommate and/or suitemates ability to study, sleep, and/or occupy their room, it will be considered a violation of this policy. 8. Due to the concern for the safety and security of our residents and guests failure to follow the above procedures and policies may result in a minimum fine of $100 per guest per night, as well as restriction/removal of guest privileges.. This will be assessed to a resident s account. Visitation Hours & Overnight Guest Policy specific for firstyear students: 1. First-year students visitation privileges in residence hall rooms for opposite gender guests are during the following hours: a. Sunday-Thursday: 10 a.m. - 1 a.m. b. Friday-Saturday and the night before a Holiday: 10 a.m. - 3 a.m. 2. First year students are not allowed overnight visitation with those of the opposite gender. ILLEGAL DRUGS & SUBSTANCES Knowledge of or being in the presence of the manufacture, attempted manufacture of, use, ingestion possession or sale of illegal or counterfeit drugs and substances, unauthorized prescription drugs, designer and/ or synthetic drugs (included but not limited to marijuana, salvia, K-2, Bath Salts, Molly, Spice, Snow) is strictly prohibited. Materials to create an illicit drug, drug paraphernalia, or other paraphernalia used to facilitate illegal or harmful use of a legal substance, stimulants, hallucinogens, other similar non-prescribed agents known to be harmful or habit forming drugs or chemicals (such as those used in huffing) are also prohibited. Having knowledge of the above or being present when a violation occurs constitutes equal responsibility and involvement in the incident. Any suspicion of drug use should be reported to the Campus Safety & Security Office. The health and wellness of ERAU students is critical to the academic mission and the safety of the entire community. Ignorance of this policy will not be acceptable as an explanation for putting oneself or others in harm s way. NOTE: Any involvement with non-prescribed substances such as outlined above is considered dangerous and strictly forbidden by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and ERAU. Any such involvement on or off campus, is therefore strictly prohibited by Embry-Riddle. Students charged with violating this policy will go before the Honor Board and are likely to be suspended from the University if found responsible. Parental Notification: ERAU, in its sole discretion, may notify parents and or guardians/ sponsors regarding students in violation of campus alcohol and drug policies without the student s consent. It is not the intention of ERAU to intrude into students lives. However, individuals should be aware that ERAU does not condone the abuse of alcohol or the use of illegal drugs, even when an individual is not on ERAU premises. Any person convicted for the use, possession or sale of illegal drugs on or off the University premises may expect to face University judicial action. Refer to the Student Handbook for information on drug testing. IMPROPER CHECK-IN Failing to properly check into the halls via any method

10 8 - POLICIES other than the published method (i.e. climbing in through a window; gaining access via roommate). IMPROPER CHECK-OUT Residents must make an appointment with their RA before leaving at the end of each semester and before breaks in order to officially check out. Residents must check out of the residence halls within 24 hours of their last exam unless the published check-out deadline comes first. All residence halls will be closed at the end of each semester, this includes winter break. Residents must find other accommodations during these times. Fines will be assessed for failure to adhere to check-out procedures. Housing Operations will not mail/ store anyone s personal property that is left behind. For further instructions make sure to read the check out memo and speak with your RA. For a complete list of check-out procedures, please see page 9. IMPROPER ROOM CHANGES Changing rooms without prior and proper authorization from Housing & Residence Life full-time staff. KEY(S) Keys must be in your possession at all times and should never be given to anyone else for any reason. All room keys are the property of ERAU; therefore, no resident may duplicate keys. Students are responsible for the security of their room. Each resident is issued a key(s) upon check- in and is responsible for turning in the key(s) upon check- out. Residents who lose their key(s) should contact the Residence Life office. For security reasons, the office office requires a lock change whenever a key is lost. A charge of $50 per missing key is assessed to the student for a lock change. LASERS Lasers are prohibited on campus with the exception of class instruction. Prohibited items will be confiscated by the Campus Safety & Security Department. Additional exceptions to the policy must be approved in writing by the office of Environmental Health and Safety. LOCKOUTS Students should carry their room key at all times. In the event of a lockout, you should: 1. Find your roommate to unlock the door. 2. Find the RA on duty to unlock the door. Fees: $15 - First lock-out $25 - Second lock-out $50 - Third lock-out (requires mandatory judicial referral and may require a lock change) 3. Contact the Residence Life office during regular office hours to sign out a loaner key. Fees: $15 - Loaner key, if available, must be returned within 24 hours $50 - Mandatory lock change if loaner key is not returned or if key is lost The Residence Life staff will assess fines for lockouts and judicially refer for repeated lockouts. MISSING STUDENT Students who reside in Residence Life managed housing are subject to certain missing student notification procedures. Anyone suspecting that a student has been missing for the past twenty-four hours must immediately notify Campus Safety & Security. An officer will respond to your report and begin an immediate investigation. The Safety & Security Department s response will include notification to the Daytona Beach Police Department if the investigation confirms the subject is missing. If the missing student is under 18 years of age and not emancipated, ERAU will notify the custodial parent or guardian. As a residential student, you may identify a contact person(s) who the institution will notify if you become missing. The University will notify this person if we determine you are missing. This contact person information should be communicated to Residence Life and Housing Operations as a part of your housing contract application process. The information provided will be kept confidential by the department and will be accessible only to authorized campus officials and law enforcement involved in the missing person investigation. MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS Musical instruments may be stored in students rooms, but may not be played during quiet hours. They may be played as long as they are not distracting to others and they are abiding by the courtesy hours policy. Please note: No amplifiers or subwoofers are allowed in the residence halls. PEST CONTROL Students are prohibited from bringing and using Raid or any other insecticide as it counteracts the campus insecticide. The Florida climate makes pest control difficult. Although

11 POLICIES - 9 professional extermination is regularly scheduled, students are expected to take special care in preventing insect infestation. Students should submit problems with pests via a maintenance request at immediately upon discovery. PETS Pets other than non-predatory fish in a 10 gallon tank are not allowed in residence halls. Only one 10-gallon tank is allowed per room. Residents must take fish or make appropriate arrangements while being away. Fish are not allowed to stay on campus during semester breaks. Pets are a problem in the residence halls because of sanitation, pest control, allergies and noise. Students will be held accountable if a guest brings a pet inside the residence halls. Individuals requiring a service animal will need to register and provide appropriate documentation to Disability Support Services. POSTING POLICY FOR RESIDENCE HALLS/COMPLEXES All signs, posters, and other advertisements must be approved by the Student Activities & Campus Events and the Residence Life offices prior to posting or distribution. Organizations should bring their pre-printed material to the Residence Life office for approval to post and/or distribution in the residence halls. 12 10 - POLICIES ROOM SEARCH Residence halls and other facilities on the Daytona Beach campus are the property of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. Therefore, the University reserves the right to enter and/or search residence hall rooms and common areas for the purposes of inventory, fire protection, sanitation, health and safety, maintenance, and enforcement of policies and regulations. Inspections for sanitation, health and safety, or maintenance are done routinely and may be done with or without advance notice. To preserve the student s privacy, other than routine room inspections, searches are conducted only when reasonable belief has been established that a University/Residence Life and Housing Operations regulation/ policy or state/ federal statute has been violated. These regulations and policies may include, but are not limited to alcohol, drugs, sexual misconduct, theft and weapons. After reasonable belief has been established, the procedure for searching a room is as follows: The resident will first be asked to cooperate with the room search. If the resident refuses and reasonable belief has been established, the University will proceed and conduct the search without the consent. An attempt will be made to have a resident of the room present in order to carry out the search. Any resident(s) present will be informed of the purpose of the search. The search will be conducted by members of the ERAU Campus Safety & Security Department with Residence Life & Housing Operations staff members being present during this time. Only one resident, if available, will be present in the room during the room search. Illegal substances or other contraband materials found during the course of the search will be confiscated, inventoried, and stored in the Campus Safety & Security Department. These items may be used as evidence in an administrative judicial process on the campus and/or criminal prosecution in the local community. In incidents of imminent danger or extreme emergency, the preceding procedures may be suspended. For further information, contact the Residence Life Department, Housing Operations, Campus Safety & Security Department, and/or the Dean of Students Office. SAFETY CONCERNS Any behavior which threatens the safety and/or well- being of yourself or others is considered disruptive, inappropriate, and a violation of ERAU policy. This includes, but is not limited to, suicide attempts; alcohol poisoning; climbing on roofs, balconies, ledges, walls, or the pedestrian overpass; starting a fire in or near a residence hall; driving recklessly; throwing items from balconies, windows, or the pedestrian overpass; and rollerblading, bicycling, skateboarding, or playing any type of sports in the residence halls. SMOKING Smoking/tobacco and electronic smoking devices is prohibited in all University buildings. Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University recognizes the need to ensure an educational and work environment that is reasonably free from various health hazards. In keeping with our core value of making our environment safer for everyone, the university prohibits the use of any tobacco product whether in the form of cigarettes, cigars, pipes, dipping/ snuff, smokeless cigarettes or chewing tobacco. It is the policy of the University that tobacco products will not be allowed anywhere on University owned or leased property (including buildings, parking lots, personal vehicles, etc.). For additional questions regarding this policy please refer to the Office of Student Affairs. SOLICITATION IN THE HALLS Solicitation of students by other ERAU students or non- students for money, goods, or other services is allowed only with written permission from the Director of Residence Life. Door-to-door solicitation is prohibited. Please report any solicitation to the Residence Life staff. SPORTS & LEISURE EQUIPMENT Most types of sports and leisure equipment are intended for outdoor use. Items with wheels, including but not limited to bicycles, skateboards, rollerblades, and/or scooters may not be used anywhere in the residence halls. Additionally, balls, racquets, hockey sticks, frisbees, and similar items may not be used anywhere in the residence halls (including McKay walkways/breezeways). Due to the potential damage caused by these items, students are required to use these items i appropriate outdoor space. Professional Staff and Campus Safety & Security officers reserve the right to confiscate these items if they are used inappropriately. Any student caught using sports and leisure equipment indoors will be judicially referred. Any damage to Housing or personal (continued to next page)

13 POLICIES - 11 property as a result of using sports and leisure equipment indoors will require restitution and/or judicial referral from the individual charged. Storage of bicycles will be restricted the designated bike storage areas identified by Campus Safety & Security. The storage of these devices must be in such that they do not block the clear flow of traffic or normal activity of the building/ facility. In the event that the device interferes with the safe operation of the facility, Campus Safety & Security will make all attempts to contact the owner prior to its removal. All residents and students are encouraged to register their bicycles with Campus Safety & Security. UNAUTHORIZED ENTRY OR USE Unauthorized entry or attempted entry are prohibited, including misuse or wrongful appropriation of keys, access codes, Eagle Cards, lock pick kits or gaining unauthorized access to information, property, or person. Use of University facilities and equipment without proper authorization is prohibited. Possession of items used to gain unauthorized entry is prohibited, including but not limited to lock pick kits, slim jims, etc. To ensure maximum security, access to residence hall roofs is strictly prohibited. WEAPONS Possession of weapons and weapon replicas including but not limited to firearms, BB guns, air guns, knives, swords, machetes, blow darts, spears, compound bows/ arrows, Tasers, brass knuckles, sling shots, martial arts devices, dangerous chemicals, incendiary devices, or other explosive substances including fireworks. Additionally, any device capable of firing or launching a projectile or other objects classified or used as weapons with potential for danger or harm. Any item used in conjunction with the intentional attempting harming of oneself or others. Any exceptions to this policy must be approved in writing by the Director of Campus Safety & Security, including requests from student organizations whose primary function involves the use of weapon replicas i.e. The Paint Ball Club at Embry- Riddle. WINDOWS Residents may not remove rivets and/or pins from windows. Rivets are provided for safety and security reasons. Residents may not remove screens from windows. Residents should not keep windows and exterior doors open while air conditioning or heat is operating. This causes a strain on the system and contributes to the possibility of air quality control issues. Residents and students are not permitted to break the plane of the windows or other accesses. This includes but is not limited to accessing areas via windows, hanging items outside of the window, throwing or disposing of objects through the window and use of the window or access for anything but its designed intent. JUDICIAL PROCESS: ERAU and Residence Life and Housing Operations (RLH) policies are established to ensure a safe and secure residence hall environment and to promote an atmosphere conducive to learning, sleeping, and studying. Any resident who violates an ERAU or DRL policy will be subject to judicial action through the judicial process. This process is designed to afford students all rights of due process and to ensure that all infractions are dealt with fairly and consistently. The right to request a review or appeal can be done through the Director of Residence Life. For more information regarding the judicial process, please refer to the Honor Code which can be found in the Student Handbook. Interim suspensions may be issued prior to a hearing when ERAU has determined that a clear and present danger exists. Applicable rules and regulations may be modified or updated from time to time, and shall be binding as of the date published. Students and applicants are bound by the terms in effect at the time of any event or occurrence. The electronic version of applicable rules, regulations, and procedures shall be the official current version. Please see the Student Handbook for further information regarding ERAU policies and procedures.

14 12 - FAQ-RESIDENCE LIFE & HOUSING OPERATIONS FAQ: RESIDENCE LIFE & HOUSING OPERATIONS CABLE - Is cable free? Cable television service is provided at no additional cost in each student room. Students must supply their own television sets and connection equipment including cables. Satellite receivers/ dishes are prohibited. SGA and ERRSA provide movies, campus announcements, and a calendar of campus events on Riddle Vision, channel 33. CLEANING - Who cleans my room and bathroom? Basic cleaning service is provided in all public areas by the ERAU s custodial contractor. Residents are responsible for cleaning their own living areas, including bathrooms (except in Doolittle Hall). Doolittle Hall bathrooms will be cleaned three times per week. In the event you or your roommates experience cleaning problems, please contact your RA or call the University Housing Office at (386) COMPUTER What if I have computer connection problems? Open in the afternoon and evening Monday - Friday, the ResNet office coordinates support of technology for residential students. The ResNet student staff offers a best effort at helping students resolve computer software and hardware issues. They also address residence hall network connectivity issues (CCA). The goal is to help students learn how to support their personal computer. ResNet Computer Consultants (RCC s) are students who work out of the ResNet office and can come to your room to help with connectivity issues. Students may also call the Information Technology Help Desk at for assistance with computer problems. The ResNet office is located in Tallman Commons 122, down the hall from the Residence Life office. Is there wireless internet in the residence halls? Yes, wireless internet is available in all residence halls, with the exception of Chanute Complex. To connect to EagleNet, use your ERAU Account ID and password if prompted. Your computer will need a wireless network interface card supporting any of the IEEE a/b/g protocols. For maximum performance, choose Wi-Fi xx. COOKING - Can I cook in my room? Cooking in Doolittle, McKay, Adams, and Wood Halls is extremely limited. Hot plates, toaster ovens, Panini makers, George Foreman grills, or any exposed flame or heating elements are prohibited in first year hall residential facilities. Each room is equipped with a small refrigerator and microwave. Students may bring blenders, coffee makers, and hot water pots. Chanute Complex, O Connor, Stimpson, and Apollo Halls each include a kitchenette or a full kitchen. Kitchen appliances (toasters, crock pots, etc.) are permitted in the kitchen area only. They may not be used in bedrooms due to fire safety restrictions. Students may use other cooking appliances located in the kitchen on the first floor of the Student Village. Charcoal, propane, lighter fluid, grills and hibachi s may not be used or stored within any RLH facilities. The Residence Life and Housing Operations staff may impose additional restrictions on the use of appliances due to unsafe or unsanitary conditions. Please refer to the RLH Planning Guide available via ERNIE for additional information. EAGLE CARD - What is the purpose of my Eagle Card? Keep your Eagle ID in a safe place with you at all times. It is similar to a debit card, and also accesses your meal plans. Residential students may gain access to only their assigned residence hall with their Eagle ID. If access is denied, visit the Residence Life office during business hours and Campus Safety after hours. If you lose your eagle card, call the Eagle Card office at (386) , and after hours contact Campus Safety & Security.

15 FAQ-RESIDENCE LIFE & HOUSING OPERATIONS- 13 FINES -What happens if I have a fine put on my account? In an event you are issued a fine to your student account regarding Housing you have up to 30 days to challenge the fine in writing to the Associate Director of Housing Operations. All fines related to lost or stolen keys are mandatory and nonrefundable. HOUSING DEPOSIT - How can I get my deposit back? Please go to and submit your request electronically. Your deposit will be refunded within 30 business days at the end of the academic year. The deposit will be placed on your student account. Please see the terms and conditions section of the Housing Contract for specifics. INSURANCE - Is my property insured? The University is not liable for damages to or theft/loss of personal property. Residents are strongly encouraged to either confirm that their personal belongings are coveredunder a parent s/guardian s homeowners insurance policy or should pursue their own renter s insurance policy. Information from a renter s insurance provider is available in the RLH office. INVENTORY & INSPECTIONS - Who has access to my room? Room condition forms are completed at the beginning and end of each semester by the RA and the resident. Any damages or furniture changes should be documented on the inventory form. Damage billing at the end of a semester is assessed according to this form, and it is very important that it is accurate. The RL staff reserves the right to inspect all rooms in order to ensure compliance with occupancy, University policies, maintenance, and health and safety regulations. ERAU officials (ADs, ACs, RAs, maintenance personnel, etc.) may enter a resident s room in his/her absence. We reserve the right to search your room if the RLH and/or Campus Safety & Security staff has reason to believe that a prohibited item is in your room, or a violation of ERAU policy is occurring. LAUNDRY - Where can I do my laundry? How much does it cost? Laundry rooms are located on the ground floors of Adams, Apollo, Doolittle, McKay, and Stimpson halls, as well as in the Chanute Complex. All washers and dryers are free for residential student use only. Please immediately report any problems with laundry machines by visiting Additionally, students may check the status of the washers and dryers from their room by accessing the same website. Students may also request to receive text messages when their laundry cycle is finished. Students are encouraged to respect all other residents property in the quick removal of their items to allow the use for other residents in the building. Residents are also requested to open all washers after their use and clean their lint from the lint screen. MAINTENANCE - What if there is a maintenance problem in my room or hall? To resolve a maintenance problem, please submit a Housing Maintenance Work Request online at www. ERAUHousingMaintenance.com. Our goal is to make sure the residence halls are safe, clean, and well maintained. Students can help by taking pride in their areas, treating the buildings and furnishings with respect, and reporting maintenance problems quickly. Please report all water leaks, musty odors, bathroom problems (i.e. exhaust fan not working, dripping faucets), or other emergency maintenance issues immediately to your RA or AC. OVERFLIGHT - What do I do if I need to finish a flight course after the residence halls close? Residents must fill out an overflight form via ERNIE. Overflight status must be confirmed by the students flight instructor/ training manager, and returned by the student to the Housing Operations office by the established deadline. Please refer to the overflight form for fees and responsibilities. Staying in the residence halls after the last exam is a privilege granted by Housing Staff staff who also reserve the right to revoke that permission.

16 14 - FAQ-RESIDENCE LIFE & HOUSING OPERATIONS PHONES - Are telephones provided in the residence halls? Telephones are not provided in student rooms; therefore, students are encouraged to use a cell phone. Each residence hall lobby has a phone which can be used for local calling or by using a calling card. Additionally, a pay phone is available in the Student Center. POSTING - Can I hang signs/posters in the residence halls? All signs, posters, and other advertisements must be approved by the Student Activities and the Residence Life offices prior to posting or distribution. Organizations should bring their pre-printed material to the Residence Life office for approval and/ or distribution in the Residence Halls. RECYCLING - Does Embry-Riddle recycle? Yes, recycling is available in all buildings on campus, including all residence halls. Residents are responsible for emptying their own recycling into the containers in trash rooms, or in recycling specific dumpsters outside. ROOM CHANGES - How can I change my room? Unauthorized room changes may result in a fine and/or judicial referral. Housing Staff reserves the right to change room assignments based on the needs of the community. If issues arise, students must speak with their roommate and/or suitemates, RA, and AC, prior to coming into the Housing Operations office. STUDYING - Where can I find a quiet place to study? Quiet study facilities are located on the third floor of Doolittle Hall, the first and second floors of McKay,Chanute 1641 #6, and throughout the Student Village and Apollo. TRASH - Where do I put my trash? Residents must empty their own trash into containers in trash rooms, or in outside dumpsters. Please put trash inside the large trash cans and break down all boxes. Do not leave trash in the hallways or other public areas. BICYCLES - How can I secure my bike? Bicycle racks are located outside of all residence halls. Bikes may not be chained in the stairwells, or stored within Residence Halls. Students are required to register their bikes with the Campus Safety Office office. This office also offers a lease a lock program for your bike. - Do I have to use my ERAU account? The ERAU system is considered to be the primary method of communication to students and it is expected to be checked daily. MAIL - How do I get my mail? Each student is required to have an ERAU campus mailbox which should be checked 3 times per week. Student ERAU mailboxes are used for official university business. You can have your mail sent to your ERAU campus mailbox which every student receives free of charge. Campus mailboxes are located in the mail room in Canaveral Hall. PARKING - How can I ensure I don t get a parking ticket? All students are required to register their vehicles with the Campus Safety office. Students must register all vehicles for decals online via their ERNIE account. Decals can be picked up in the Campus Safety Communication Center, which is located in the Student Center. Vehicles are to be parked in designated areas only according to parking decal color. The speed limit on campus is 10 mph. VENDING - What if I lose my money in a vending machine? If money is lost in the vending machines, students must contact Dining Services located in the Student Center.
