4 INVITATION Dear Colleagues, We cordially invite you to showcase innovative approaches to mental health and wellness by submitting an application for an oral presentation/workshop. We look forward to having you join our distinguished guest speakers and being part of the program for the 2018 Aboriginal Mental Health and Wellness Conference Creating a on October 23 & 24, The conference mission is to enhance knowledge and skills to create CULTURALLY SAFE services with and for Indigenous people. Our 2015 Conference occurred following the release of the Truth and Commission of Canada: Calls to Action. We had an opportunity to consider the progress and the implications for culturally safe services with and for Indigenous people since the Calls to Action. In particular, we consider Aboriginal Mental Health and Wellness. We value this opportunity to reflect, define and respond. We established our Mental Health and Wellness Conference Goals to guide how these Conference Themes will develop into a powerful experience that will enhance knowledge and skills. CONFERENCE THEMES We are looking for sessions that will highlight what is working and what could be implemented in other communities/areas. These could be innovative approaches or proven and effective programs. They may be considered best practices, promising strategies and/or evidencebased practices in the 5 areas. Justice GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE CONFERENCE Dates and Venue: Tuesday, October 23 to Wednesday, October 24, 2018 All conference activities will be held at the Victoria Inn, Brandon, Manitoba Information and Registration: We encourage you to visit the conference website at for further information about programming, lodging, registration fees and the terms and conditions of participation.

5 APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS AND GUIDELINES General Information: The Aboriginal Mental Health & Wellness Committee will give priority to proposals that establish a clear link with the conference mission and themes. Selected presenter(s) will be part of the 1-hour concurrent sessions. Attendees can range from for each concurrent session. Conference Themes: 1. Child Welfare 2. Education 3. Language & Culture 4. Health 5. Justice Presentation Format: 1-hour oral presentation/workshop Application Submissions: Online submission system opens April 30, 2018; Application submission deadline June 22, 2018 All applications must be submitted via or fax by completing the online submission form Once completed, you will receive an confirming that your submission was successfully received Keep a copy of your online application for your records If you do not receive an confirming your submission, contact the Aboriginal Mental Health and Wellness Committee: or canlcommittee@gmail.com If you are unable to access application online, an application package will be sent to you by contacting Submissions must not exceed 250 words Indicate the format of presentation you prefer Guidelines: Each individual may submit a maximum of two (2) applications as Main Presenter. As a Secondary Presenter, a person can be included on a maximum of two (2) additional submissions A submission of an application implies the submitter s agreement to register for the conference, pay the appropriate conference registration fee, and make this presentation as scheduled An LCD data projector, laptop computer, screen and flipchart are included as part of the standard audio visual package in each session room Additional equipment will be the presenter s responsibility PowerPoint presentations for oral presentations/workshops must be submitted electronically to the Aboriginal Mental Health and Wellness Conference Committee by September 4, Accepted submissions will be posted on the Aboriginal Mental Health and Wellness conference website. All applications will be included as submitted by the presenter(s) and will include the names of all presenters in conference material Selection Criteria and Review Process: Applications will be peer reviewed according to: Relevance to overall conference theme, objectives and key priority areas Importance of the issue, scientific or educational Clarity, originality and quality of content Value, relevance and scope of actions, conclusions and implications for the practice

6 The Aboriginal Mental Health & Wellness Committee reserves the right to determine that there is sufficient balance of all sub-themes to ensure conference goals are met. Application Acceptance: Final decisions regarding acceptance of application and presentation format will be made by the Aboriginal Mental Health & Wellness Committee. The main presenter of the submission will be notified of application selection by July 13, All communication will be with the main presenter as indicated on the submission. All selected presenter(s) must register and pay for conference. Registration fees include conference presentation and attendance, and meals. Travel cost and any other expenses incurred are the responsibility of the presenter(s).
