2 INTRODUCTION 2 BROUGHTON ANGLICAN COLLEGE Academic, STEM, CAPA, Christian Service Broughton Anglican College seeks to provide opportunities for students, who have displayed a level of excellence in identified areas, to develop their gifts and talents in a Christian environment. By offering scholarships, Schools Council aims to encourage students to demonstrate they are committed to the achievement of excellence in their chosen field. The College seeks to develop a culture of excellence. This goal is supported through offering scholarships to cover part of the tuition fee of scholarship recipients. Scholarships are available for students entering Year 7 and 11 in Scholarships are awarded in the following categories: Academic - Years 7 and 11 STEM -Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics - Years 7 and 11 Creative and Performing Arts (CAPA) Music - Years 7 and 11 Visual Arts - Year 11 Drama - Year 11 Christian Service - Years 7 and 11 Indigenous Leadership - Year 11 Applicants for Academic and STEM Scholarships will be required to complete a Broughton Scholarship Application form, provide a Portfolio and register online to sit an examination through the ACER Scholarship exam program on Saturday 24 February Applicants for Creative and Performing Arts, Christian Service and Indigenous Leadership Scholarships are not required to sit an examination through ACER but will be required to complete a Broughton Scholarship Application form, provide a Portfolio and be interviewed by a College Scholarship panel. & Indigenous Leadership Scholarships Applicants for Creative and Performing Arts Scholarships will be required to undertake an audition for scholarships in Music (Years 7 and 11) or Drama (Year 11). Applicants for Creative and Performing Arts Scholarships in Visual Arts (Year 11) are asked to submit a minimum of six completed body of works in a portfolio and be interviewed by a College Scholarship panel. SCHOLARSHIP DURATION Scholarships will be awarded for the following duration: Year 7 Academic, STEM, CAPA (Music) 6 years (Yrs 7 12) Christian Service 4 years (Yrs 7 10) Year 11 2 years (Yrs 11 12) ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIPS Broughton seeks to assist all students to develop their full potential and is keen to encourage academically gifted students to excel. The College offers a quality gifted and talented program which provides opportunities for acceleration, enrichment and extension work to a broad range of students. In the awarding of Academic Scholarships, Broughton is seeking students that will uphold the good name of the College and who are excellent role models to other members of the College community. Applicants for Academic Scholarships will be required to complete a Broughton Scholarship Application form, provide a Portfolio and
3 Broughton Anglican College Scholarships register online to sit an examination through the ACER Scholarship exam program on Saturday 24 February Parents and students should be aware that scholarships are subject to regular monitoring. This monitoring will assess academic performance, effort and attitude. CREATIVE AND PERFORMING ARTS SCHOLARSHIPS (CAPA) Students who display a high level of ability and commitment in Music (students entering Year ) or Drama, Music or Visual Arts (students entering Year ) may apply for a Creative and Performing Arts Scholarship. Broughton s Creative and Performing Arts programs emphasis is on creativity, innovation, flexibility and working together. Applications are sought from students who are willing to showcase their talents through performance and / or exhibitions and who are willing to participate in the College s cocurricular programs. Awardees of Creative and Performing Arts Scholarships - Music / Drama are expected to fully participate in the musical/ dramatic life of the College and seek ways in which to support and improve music / drama / performance within the College. Applicants for Creative and Performing Arts Scholarships are required to complete a Broughton Scholarship Application form and provide a Portfolio. Candidates are requested to submit a portfolio outlining details of their ability, training, performance and achievements, results in appropriate musical testing and external competitions. Information relating to involvement in cocurricular activities should also be provided. Applicants will be required to undertake an audition for scholarships in Music (Years 7 and 11) or Drama (Year 11). CAPA Visual Arts Applicants for Creative and Performing Arts Scholarships in Visual Arts (Year 11) are asked to submit a minimum of six completed works in a portfolio. Applicants are requested to submit original works up to the size of A3. Larger works will need to be presented in a high resolution photograph. Evidence of ongoing engagement with art outside of school will be required. Applicants will be expected to be extending their own practice outside of school. This may include additional classes or workshops, involvement in exhibitions and competitions for their own work or an online presence. Scholarship recipients will be expected to undertake the study of their area of expertise as part of their mandatory curriculum patterns (Years 7 and 8) and as an elective subject (Years 9 and 10). Senior students on Creative and Performing Arts Scholarships are expected to undertake the study in their area of talent in their senior curriculum pattern. Scholarship recipients will have their progress regularly monitored. The monitoring will be based upon academic performance, involvement in musical activities, application and attitude. 4 Academic, STEM, CAPA, Christian Service & Indigenous Leadership Scholarships CHRISTIAN SERVICE SCHOLARSHIPS Students who display a high level of Christian commitment and are active in their Church congregations may apply for a Christian Service Scholarship. Christian Service Scholarships are available for students in Years 7 and 11. The Scholarships are designed to provide opportunities for young Christian leaders to be educated in an environment which will develop their knowledge and confidence to take on Christian leadership roles in their adult life. Recipients of Christian Service Scholarships are expected to fully participate in the Christian life of the College and seek ways in which to support and improve the Christian Leadership of students within the College. Candidates for Christian Service Scholarships are required to complete a Broughton Scholarship Application form and submit a portfolio detailing their current involvement in their local Church and for current students their Christian activities at the College. Applicants will also be required to attend an interview with Senior Members of staff, before confirmation of the awarding of the scholarship. Scholarship recipients will have their progress regularly monitored. The monitoring will be based on their involvement in College and Church activities, application and attitude. INDIGENOUS LEADERSHIP SCHOLARSHIPS Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students entering Year 11 who display high level leadership skills, a Christian commitment and are active in their Church congregations and other groups may apply for an Indigenous Leadership Scholarship. The Scholarships are designed to provide opportunities for young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students who have shown leadership in their school, Church or community, who are role models for other young people and who have the potential to be the future leaders within our community. Recipients of Indigenous Leadership Scholarships are expected to be positive role models to other students, to be a member of the Student Representative Council, to participate in the cocurricular life of the College and seek ways in which to support and improve the Christian Leadership of students within the College. Candidates for an Indigenous Leadership Scholarship are required to complete a Broughton Scholarship Application form and submit a portfolio detailing their current involvement in their school, Church or other groups and for current students their Christian activities at the College. Applicants will also be required to attend an interview with Senior Members of staff, before confirmation of the awarding of the scholarship. 5 Broughton Anglican College Scholarships STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) SCHOLARSHIPS The College is offering STEM Scholarships for students who have shown commitment, passion and academic excellence in one or more subjects in the Science, Technology and Mathematics Key Learning Areas. Applicants for the scholarships must be entering Year 7 or Year 11 in The successful candidates should have shown the ability to integrate their learning across the Key Learning Areas and have shown their ability as problem solvers and innovators. Students awarded scholarships in STEM in Year 7 will be expected to be studying the highest level of Mathematics (Years 7-10), at least Mathematics 2 Unit (Years 11 and 12) and to be involved in curricular and cocurricular activities. It is an expectation that recipients of STEM Scholarships are involved in the Tournament of the Minds competitions and other extension activities in Years Successful candidates for STEM Scholarships in Years would be expected to be studying at least Mathematics 2 Unit and one or more subjects from Science and / or Technology Stage 6 suite of subjects. Applicants for STEM Scholarships will be required to complete a Broughton Scholarship Application form, provide a Portfolio and register online to sit an examination through the ACER Scholarship exam program on Saturday 24 February performance, effort and attitude in the student s study of subjects in the STEM Key Learning Areas and their involvement in cocurricular activities. PORTFOLIO All Scholarship applicants are requested to provide a Portfolio. Please provide a separate portfolio for each Scholarship applied for. Applicants for Academic Scholarships are requested to submit a Portfolio that includes: Evidence of high achievement in cocurricular activities within the school environment or local community Results in academic competitions Evidence of leadership roles Other academic evidence Applicants for STEM Scholarships are requested to submit a Portfolio that includes: A design portfolio, showing evidence of something they have created and the process followed OR a scientific report for an investigation they have carried out Evidence of high achievement in cocurricular activities within the school environment or local community Results in academic competitions Evidence of leadership roles Other academic evidence Parents and students should be aware that scholarships are subject to regular monitoring. 6 Academic, STEM, CAPA, Indigenous Leadership & Christian Service Scholarships PORTFOLIO CONTINUED Applicants for Creative and Performing Arts Scholarships are requested to submit a Portfolio that includes: Details of music / drama training and performance Copy of results of musical grading examinations Evidence of high achievement in cocurricular activities within the school environment or local community Visual Arts applicants are required to submit a minimum of six completed works in a portfolio. Applicants are requested to submit original works up to the size of A3. Larger works will need to be presented in a high resolution photograph. Evidence of ongoing practice. Evidence of ongoing engagement with art outside of school. Show exposure to works through gallery visits and be familiar with artists practice outside of what is explored at school. Evidence of additional art classes or workshops, involvement in exhibitions and competitions for their own work or an online presence. Applicants for Christian Service Scholarships are requested to submit a Portfolio that includes: Evidence of involvement in church and other Christian activities A reference from their minister detailing church involvement and attendance. All copies of documentation need to be certified by a Justice of the Peace. Portfolio submissions for all scholarships close Monday 5 February APPLICATION Any student not currently enrolled at Broughton Anglican College is required to complete and submit an Enrolment Application form along with required documentation. Where the documentation is also required for the Scholarship Application please provide copies for both applications. All scholarship applicants are required to complete the Broughton Scholarship Application form that is available from the College or online at scholarships.html Applicants for Academic and STEM are required to register online with ACER for the scholarship examination. Applicants for Christian Service, Creative and Performing Arts and Indigenous Leadership Scholarships are required to complete a Broughton Scholarship Application form and pay the administration fee of $15.00 directly to the College. Please note the College does not accept cash. Payments must be made by card. 6 BROUGHTON ANGLICAN COLLEGE
7 Application, Fees & Important Dates FEES All applications for scholarships incur a $15.00 administration fee. This is payable to Broughton Anglican College and will be added to the online payment with ACER. Applicants for Academic and STEM Scholarships are required to register with ACER for the scholarship examination. Applicants for Christian Service, Creative and Performing Arts and Indigenous Leadership Scholarships are required to complete a Broughton Scholarship Application form and pay the administration fee of $15 directly to the College. The ACER Registration Fee of $95.00 will apply to all online registrations. A total cost of $ includes the Broughton administration fee.
