2 Who we are The Sirius Minerals Foundation is a registered charity set up by Sirius Minerals Plc. The Foundation is an independently run body with trustees selected from both within and outside the business. Sirius Minerals Plc set up the Foundation to ensure that community projects and local residents receive long-term benefits. 1

3 How we are funded Funded by Sirius Minerals Plc which is developing the Woodsmith Mine and associated infrastructure along the route of mineral transport system and at Teesside The company contributed initial start up fund of 2 million for the construction period Sirius Minerals made a lasting commitment to the Foundation and will contribute an annual royalty of 0.5 per cent of sales from the project The Sirius Minerals Foundation will also invest its own annual income 2

4 How we are governed Foundation s strategic direction and funding decisions are overseen by a board of seven trustees. The trustees are responsible for the day-today running of the Foundation, together with the evaluation and approval of funding for local projects. The trustees are appointed by three members of the Foundation. The members are: Sirius Minerals Plc Two independent members 3

5 Area of benefit The Foundation s first funding programme will benefit those communities and residents that are directly affected by the construction of the project within: 16km (ten miles) of the Woodsmith Mine and 8km (five miles) of the other infrastructure 4

6 Supporting local community projects The Foundation will support projects that align to its objectives: Advance education including projects and training that enhance skills Promote the general health of the community Advance environmental protection and improve the local landscape Provide and improve social welfare facilities that improve the conditions of life and well-being Help gain skills by those in need because of financial hardship through the long-term unemployment 5

7 Funding requests Applicants will principally be: Individuals Educational establishments Parish councils and village meetings Community groups Not-for-profit social enterprises Charities Faith groups The Foundation will prioritise requests for: Education and skills bursaries and projects Improved community facilities Environmental projects Local parish or community plans support Contribution to funding of local charities Projects which create a lasting asset, i.e. the foundation stone or public art 6

8 First funding programme The first funding programme will accept expressions of interest from individuals and organisations based in and serving communities directly affected by the Sirius Minerals project construction Grants will be of minimum 500 and maximum grant of 5,000 Projects cannot have started before a grant is awarded and should normally be completed within a year of a grant being awarded Applicants should normally be able to demonstrate some significant volunteer contribution to the project or some other significant match funding or other support Successful applicants must agree to acknowledge the grant publicly, for example on publicity material and/or a plaque on a building 7

9 How to apply Funding will be awarded for projects that directly improve life for local people, for example through: Purchasing new equipment for community use Improving a community building Improving the local environment for community benefit Running training courses for community benefit Developing or refreshing a local parish or community plans Creating a lasting asset that commemorates the launch of the project, e.g. a foundation stone or imaginative public art You can apply for funding by: Either completing the form online Or downloading the form and sending it to the Foundation by post or The closing date for submissions is: 31 July 2017 Shortlisted applicants visits will be in: September

10 A call for Big Ideas In addition to our first grant programme, the Foundation wants to hear from people and groups with big ideas and ambitions To develop sustainable trading social enterprises, linked to the construction or future operation of the Woodsmith Mine The closing date for big ideas is 30 September 2017 Find out more on the Foundation website That will have positive benefits for local communities in Redcar, Whitby, Scarborough or the North York Moors National Park area The Foundation will review all the big ideas it receives and select a small number which it will explore in greater depth and then consider for possible funding support. 9
