2 ABOUT GIVE INTERNATIONAL: GIVE. International is a Canadian-based charitable trust working in relief and development. We have been supporting projects in East Africa since Our objective is to engage in development initiatives that are reflective of the region s social, economic and cultural landscape by supporting projects that are already established by members of the local community. GIVE International is proud to provide human, material, and financial resources to projects that focus on health care, child & youth development, and education. We are committed to coordinating safe, wellorganized and meaningful volunteer opportunities for Canadians who are interested in building crosscultural relationships and learning about East Africa s development challenges through hands-on experience. The message we want all of our volunteers to learn is: No one can do everything, but everyone can do something. We look forward to coordinating Ontario Youth for Uganda: March 2013 an opportunity for secondary level students to volunteer in Jinja, Uganda. Students will learn about the country s development challenges by engaging in a variety of projects and they will actively participate in a crosscultural dialogue with local communities. GIVE International is committed to building the capacity of Ontario youth as global citizens; enabling them to take action and make a positive difference in their future endeavours. We believe in the reciprocal nature of the volunteer experience: developing communities (and projects) are supported in reaching their goals and Canadian volunteers receive a firsthand international development education. GIVE International holds liability insurance through Robertson-Hall Insurance Brokers. Our Canada Revenue Agency Registration Number is: RR0001. CONTACT INFORMATION program.director@giveintl.org / Tel: Zermatt Drive, Waterloo, Ontario, N2T 2W8

5 Uganda Overview Uganda is Africa condensed, with the best of everything the continent has to offer packed into one small but stunning destination. Uganda is home to the highest mountain range in Africa the Mountains of the Moon in the Rwenzori National Park. It is the source of the mighty Nile and offers the best white-water rafting in the world. It has the highest concentration of primates on earth, including the majestic mountain gorilla, one of the rarest animals on the planet. In 1907, pioneering tourist Winston Churchill called Uganda the Pearl of Africa. He was right. Mention Uganda to most people and the first thing they ll think of is the brutality of Idi Amin and Joseph Kony. Today s reality is vastly different peace and stability have returned across the country and tourists are welcomed with open arms. The people offer heart-warming hospitality with their ever-present smiles, accompanied by the greeting: Hello Mzungu! Uganda is truly one of the finest countries on the African continent.
