11 Security Office of Campus Security (OCS) provides 24-hour security services at BTC. The roles and responsibilities of OCS include: Protection of University property and personnel against crime, fire and other emergencies Provide first line of response to support crisis management and all security matters in relation to emergency situation, e.g. bomb threat evacuation, fire and burglar alarm Conduct security audit, consultation and security project management Other security services i.e. deployment of Security Officers for NUS major events held at BTC, managing emergency keys for BTC Security Post and Hotline (24-hour) The BTC Security Post is located at Tower Block level 1. Emergency Call Points Emergency Call Points (ECPs) are installed at the fringe areas of BTC. Please refer to map (Page 6). This is a SOS type of communication system. During an emergency, the ECPs allow staff and students to communicate with Security Officers directly via an intercom. Each ECP has a strobe light and an intercom for complainants to communicate with our security officers on duty. When an ECP is activated, a camera will automatically zoom onto the ECP station to capture any evidence. Personal Alarm Device It is advisable to carry a Personal Alarm Device (PAD) for emergency purpose. NUS staff and students can purchase the PAD from Security Staff at Kent Ridge Campus during office hours, at a discounted price of S$5.00 per piece. Depending on the supplier, the price may vary from time to time. For further information on payment and collection, you may contact OCS at , or walk-in to No. 17 Prince George s Park.
12 Crime Prevention Tips (1) General Avoid travelling alone at night - Be aware - recognize your vulnerability. If you need to go out at night, go out with a buddy or in a group. Use well lit and busy sidewalks or recommended pathway. If possible, let a friend or room-mate know where and with whom you will be and when you will be back. If you think you are being followed by someone, cross the street to verify and if necessary, cross the street back and forth. If you are being pursued, scream and run to a lighted place, enlist the aid of a passer-by, flag down a passing motorist. Do anything that might attract attention or summon assistance. Do not leave your personal belongings unattended even for a short period of time. Use cable lock to secure your laptop to working desk or solid structure. Always remember to log off your laptop or computer when you need to walk away even for a short while. It is recommended to carry a whistle or personal alarm. Familiarize yourself with the locations of the securitypost and ECPs withincampus. Secure all fire exits and windows and lock the main door, if you are the last person to leave your facility or premise. Do not attempt to pry open manual locking doors or doors armed with card access system. Report to your administrator for assistance. Do not handover cash or valuables to strangers. Any found items shall be reported / handed over to Student Services YIH (KRC) / Student BTC or Campus Security immediately.
13 Crime Prevention Tips (2) General (Cont d) Contact Security Hotline: (KRC & UT) or (BTC) to report suspicious characters or criminal activities. Be alert for suspicious or criminal activity and conditions. You may log in to OCS website, look under Security Services or Reporting A Crime header and click on ecrime Report to report non-emergency cases or incidents, suspicious or criminal activities. Your identity will be kept in strict confidence. Display your NUS staff / student matriculation card prominently whilst at NUS premises. Sports Facilities Confine your running and jogging to daylight hours and to open welltravelled areas. If you have to jog on roads, use footpaths only. If you encounter a male intruder inside the ladies locker room: o o o Scream for help. Formulate a description of the intruder in your mind. Inform Campus Security immediately. Work out with a friend and make arrangement to go to and from the gym together. Avoid bringing cash, wallets or other valuables to the sports facilities. Report suspicious persons and incidents of theft to Campus Security immediately.
