2 1. INTRODUCTION The University of Nairobi is a world recognized university in Kenya over the years has produced an alumni group of to over As a result of the large number and need to create a relationship among the successful graduates with the students and among themselves, during the 41 st graduation ceremony of the university, the Alumni Association came up with the idea to put up an Alumni Centre. The centre is a good project that alumni can identify themselves with and act as a means of pooling their resources towards development activities at the university through partnerships. The proposed development is thus The University of Nairobi Alumni Centre. This will consist of an office block, a library, a hotel, business center, banking services, conference facilities, and recreation and shopping facilities. These will provide a common place to enhance the campus relations with the alumni as well as support other pertinent issues both educational and financial. The choice to develop the centre was driven by the Alumni desire to benefit from the high rental rates, capital gain over time and ever increasing demand for conference facilities as well as accommodation and recreation activities. 1.1 PURPOSE OF THE BRIEF This Project Brief provides an overview of the proposed ALUMNI CENTRE and has been prepared to enable both the student and the supervisors to have a common understanding of what the student intends to carry out during the first semester year This will also enable the supervisors to contribute to the developing project from a good idea to a reality. However the contents of this brief are subject to alteration and modification during the design period if need be. B76/3618/2011 Page 2
