5 The Need The Quechua world is one of extremes High altitude Harsh environment Extreme poverty 40% are undernourished Child mortality rate is shockingly high Four out of 10 do not reach age 10 Children are orphaned through abandonment or death Very little access to schools Subsistence existence raising alpacas and growing vegetables

8 Staffing Quechua Benefit has no paid staff in the U.S. only a dedicated group of volunteers Dr. Wilfredo Uscamayta Condori is employed as a full-time dentist with 2 part time assistants to operate a mobile dental facility in Peru

11 Quechua Benefit : Don Julio Barreda asks if the alpaca breeders of the United States could help the people of Macusani, Peru. The first dental trip to Peru is organized by Mario Pedroza and Mike Safley. Dr Pedroza sees 907 patients. 1997: Quechua Benefit is incorporated as a 501(3)(c) non profit corporation. 1998: The third annual dental trip sees 1200 patients.

12 Quechua Benefit : Quechua Benefit ships winter coats, shoes, sweaters, school supplies to Peru for 1,000 children. 2000: The dental team expands to 2 dentists and the 4th annual trip serves three towns and 1801 patients. 2001: The charity begins financial support of the Musqa Runa orphanage in Macusani.

13 Quechua Benefit : Quechua Benefit delivers disaster relief in the form of blankets and antibiotics during one of the most devastating Andean freezes in decades. 2003: Dr Wilfredo Uscamayta Condori a Quechua dentist volunteers for the 8th annual dental trip which saw a record 2147 patients. 2004: A grant from the Flora Foundation of $10,000 per year for 3 years enables Quechua Benefit to hire Dr Willy to operate the mobile dental clinic. Quechua Benefit sees 4200 patients.

14 Quechua Benefit : Quechua Benefit begins year round dental services into 20 towns and sees 500 patients per month. 2006: Quechua Benefit Raises $260, and begins supporting 2 more orphanage in addition to Sister Antonia s soup kitchen in Yanque which feeds 800 people per day. 2007: Quechua Benefit provides disaster relief to earthquake victims in Ica.

15 Quechua Benefit : The charity expands to service 40 communities in the altiplano and sees their patient count top 41, : Charity decides to build and operate an orphanage for the children of alpaca breeders.

18 A Sustainable Solution Donations of food, supplies and dental care help mightily, but fail to provide lasting solutions that result in real and meaningful change. Sustainable solutions must be created to give youth the education and life skills required to break the cycle of poverty and despair.

20 The Model Alin Kawasy children s home Operating for over 10 years Largely self-sustaining through sale of produce grown on site and trout from a fishery Children are immersed in cultural values of mutual respect, self-sufficiency, self esteem and education Each child is encouraged to embrace continuing education and to learn a trade or profession Casa Chapi will adopt this model and create a facility equal parts home, school, sustainable farm and job training.

21 Breaking Ground Spring 2009, Quechua Benefit will break ground on Casa Chapi Land purchased and building plans ready Casa Chapi s goal is to become completely self sustaining Produce from gardens and greenhouses and animals raised onsite to generate income Tending animals and gardens will teach job skills. Additional trades will also be taught Woodworking Mechanics Office Administration Computers

24 Fundraising Originally from Alpaca Breeders Has grown into over 250 contributors, many donating thousands of dollars Quechua Benefit now reaches out to the international community Increase the impact of the charity Provide a more permanent solution End the cycle of poverty Quechua is asking individual donors and foundations to sponsor rooms, buildings or other facilities The section they help build will feature their name and a blessing
