2 INTRODUCTION Established in 1946, the United Nations Association in Canada (UNA Canada) is a national charitable organization based in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. UNA Canada engages the Canadian public in the work of the United Nations (UN) and critical international issues that affect us all. By creating links between the work of the UN and the lives of Canadians, UNA Canada is helping to build a stronger UN. The Calgary Branch of UNA Canada is an incorporated pursuant to the Alberta Societies Act. The affairs of the branch are controlled and managed by its Calgary-based Board of Directors (BOD) who are volunteers and are responsible for policy decisions, actions, and oversight of general branch operations. UNAC Calgary partners with local organizations to engage our community in the work of the UN and key human rights and environmental issues. UNAC Calgary supports projects in alignment with our mandate and those that contribute to the betterment of our society. Our goal is to draw links between local and global concerns and introduce values and principles of the UN with respect to human rights, youth and education, and environment sustainability through education and local community initiatives. UNAC CALGARY GRANT PROGRAM UNAC Calgary provides funding support for engagement opportunities within our local community. We focus on causes that educate or involve the participation of Calgarians related to the following mandates: human rights, youth and education, and environmental sustainability, with the purpose of benefiting all Canadians. In 2018, five grants valued at $1,000 each will be awarded to registered charities and non-profits seeking to implement community benefit projects in the local area. Should you have a project that meets one or more of the above listed mandates, please complete the Grant Application Form, and we will gladly evaluate your needs. Human Rights The human rights mandate promotes and protects the enjoyment and full realization of all people, of all rights established in the Charter of the United Nations and the international human rights law and treaties. It prevents human rights violations, secures respect for all human rights, promotes international cooperation to protect human rights, and supports activities that promote human rights awareness in our community. Our goal is to introduce our community to the values and principles of the UN with respect to human rights through education and local community initiatives. We strive to promote inclusiveness where all citizens can enjoy full participation in Canadian society. Youth & Education The education mandate focuses on teaching youth and children about the UN and global issues from a Canadian perspective, including recognition of the importance of educating Canadians about the world in which we live. Environmental Sustainability UNAC Calgary engages dialogue respectful of the United Nations Environmental Program (UNEP) mission: to provide leadership and encourage partnership in caring for the environment by inspiring, informing and enabling nations and peoples to improve their quality of life without comprising that of future generations. 1 P age

3 ASSESSMENT CRITERIA UNAC Calgary will evaluate projects based on the following: 1. The project clearly aligns with one or more of UNAC Calgary s mandates (see description of mandates listed on Page 1). 2. The project will: a. Benefit a large number of Calgarians b. Benefit a large number of your target group c. Create a significant, positive impact to the benefactors of your project and the local community 3. The project clearly aligns with one or more of the UN s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) outlined below: 2 P age

4 IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR APPLICANTS Applications are reviewed for completeness and eligibility. Incomplete applications will not be evaluated. Five grants at the value of $1,000 each will be awarded. Funding is provided in collaboration with the Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commission s (AGLC) charitable gaming model. An applicant organization is eligible to receive only one grant. Applicants must be either a registered charity or registered non-profit. Please note that UNAC Calgary does not provide funds for international development work, as this is beyond the purview of our mandate to support local community projects. Please note the following items are not eligible for UNAC Calgary funding: a. Professional development (i.e. workshop, conference, and/or education expenses that will benefit a single individual) b. Honorariums c. Gifts or gift cards d. Promotional items (i.e. organization-branded promotional items such as key chains, water bottles, apparel, etc.) e. Catering expenses f. Day-to-day operational expenses (i.e. office space lease, utilities, etc.) 2018 GRANT PROGRAM TIMELINE Please note that UNAC Calgary provides funding through the Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commission s (AGLC) charitable gaming model. The timeline of UNAC Calgary s 2018 Grant Program is outlined below: 1. Applications must be submitted to communityinvestment@unaccalgary.com by April 30, Applications will be evaluated by UNAC Calgary mid-may Selected applications are forwarded for final evaluation to the Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commission s (AGLC) charitable gaming department during the summer 4. 5 TERMS AND CONDITIONS If funding is approved by UNAC Calgary, the applicant agrees to adhere to the following Terms and Conditions: 1. The applicant will sign the completed Grant Application Form in agreeance of all Terms and Conditions outlined in the agreement. 2. Approved funds will be disbursed to the recipient upon final approval. 3. The funds will be used solely for the purpose of the project outlined in the respective Grant Application Form. 4. If the recipient does not comply with the terms and conditions on which funding was granted, or if the information provided by the recipient to obtain the funding is determined to be false, misleading or inaccurate, UNAC Calgary may require the recipient to repay all or part of the funds to UNAC Calgary. An amount that a recipient is required to repay to UNAC Calgary is a debt due to UNAC Calgary and may be recovered from the recipient by an action in debt. 5. Both the recipient and UNAC Calgary will recognize the financial contribution made by UNAC Calgary toward the project. The recipient acknowledges that this recognition may include the name of the recipient and details of the project. 6. The recipient will report on the outcomes of the project within three months of the project end date (for additional information, please refer to the Outcomes Section of the Grant Application Form). 4 P age
