The Arizona We Want 2.0 Hensley Beverage Company is one of the largest, privately-held companies in the state with a team of over 800 employees. Founded in 1955, Hensley has succeeded at all levels of the beverage distribution business and, in the process, become one of the leading corporate citizens within the state of Arizona. Hensley Beverage Company is also one of the largest beverage distributors in the nation, distributing more than 850 brands including Anheuser-Busch beers, a wide variety of imports, craft brews, spirits, specialty beverages, energy drinks, water, teas, and more. Quench Fine Wines is Hensley s wine division that distributes more than 2,600 wine labels. Our mission is to preserve trusted partnerships with employees, customers, community, Anheuser-Busch, and all our partners, to strive to cultivate new ones and exceed expectations with the finest team in the industry. As a result of its focus on the core competencies of service, integrity and quality products, the company is respected locally and nationally. Hensley has been recognized for outstanding methods of training and motivating employees, as well as being a leader in the community, and serves as an example of philanthropy in Arizona. We are a local first company and are honored to participate in The Arizona We Want 2.0.
HENSLEY BEVERAGE COMPANY RESPONSE TO THE ARIZONA WE WANT GOAL 1 Education Prepare Arizonans of all ages for the 21 st century workforce. Hensley sponsors various Anheuser-Busch authorized speakers of programs that focus on helping teens avoid the danger and consequences of underage, illegal use of products, driving under the influence or not wearing a seat belt. These hard-hitting and sometimes graphic presentations drive the point home to teens about the aftermath of making one bad decision that could lead to permanent and life altering consequences. Graduate high school students who are college and career ready. Align graduation requirements to national and international standards. Customize education to meet student goals. 19% of Arizonans rate their community highly for the quality of its public schools. Hensley believes strongly in providing aid for education through scholarships and offers scholarship programs for the dependent children of all active, fulltime Hensley employees. The company also encourages its employees to attend higher learning institutions and reimburses them a percentage of their college tuition. In addition, Hensley provides funds for many scholarship programs within the community including the Marine Corp Scholarship Foundation, Folds of Honor Foundation, Hispanic Business Alumni Chapter at Arizona State University, Teach for America, Alhambra School District, and many more. The Budweiser Shootout is an annual golf event created 20 years ago by Hensley Beverage Company to aid Arizona Latino students with scholarships. Since its inception, it has generated more than 1 million dollars in scholarships. Budweiser Shootout partners with the Arizona State University Hispanic Business Alumni and the Arizona Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. Hensley also participates on many business organization boards that help drive higher education initiatives, including the Arizona, Phoenix, and Hispanic Chambers of Commerce, as well as Greater Phoenix leadership. Hensley will continue to step up efforts to make education a #1 priority in our state. A top executive of the company just accepted the role as Chair of the Arizona Hispanic Chamber of Commerce to further advance diversity and to encourage aid to a wider expanse of students in Arizona. We will continue to support education legislation and organizations that provide scholarships and education programs.
HENSLEY BEVERAGE COMPANY RESPONSE TO THE ARIZONA WE WANT GOAL 2 Job Creation Create quality jobs for all Arizonans. From the original 15 employees, Hensley has grown to 850 employees currently and is led by President & CEO Robert Delgado. Headquartered in Phoenix, with branches in Chandler, Prescott Valley and Tucson, Hensley brings refreshment to people all across the state. Bronze Bud Man trophy presented to employees who reach 20 years of service at Hensley. Increased job opportunities. Job training programs for all ages. Lower business taxes. 96% of Arizonans do not rate their community highly for economic conditions. 76% do not believe the next generation will have a higher standard of living than we have today. Hensley Beverage Company is an equal opportunity employer and selects the best matched individual for the job based on job-related qualifications regardless of race, color, creed, sex, sexual orientation, national origin, age, handicap or other protected groups under state, federal or local opportunity laws. Hensley has four facilities and currently has over 800 employees. Hensley prides itself on the degree to which education is promoted and encouraged to employees. Examples include: New employee orientation; CDL training; OSHA Certification; on-going safety initiatives and web-based training with over 750 topics including selling skills, merchandising, safety awareness, personal development, Microsoft programs, customer service, diversity training and many more. Hensley is a major supporter of Local First, an organization dedicated to growing and retaining local companies and the jobs they create. The Bud Man 20-year service award recognizes the commitment and achievements of men and women who have dedicated 20 years to Hensley Beverage Company. The bronze sculpture of a young man delivering a stack of Budweiser beer was designed to recognize loyal employees who celebrate their 20th anniversary with our organization. So far, close to 200 employees have received the Bud Man Bronze. Hensley Beverage Company is also a proud supporter of the Arizona Small Business Association which represents 150,000 Arizona small businesses. Hensley Beverage Company is also a major contributor in supporting the Arizona Lodging and Tourism Association. Tourism represents the second largest economic driver of the state. Nearly 200,000 employees are part of the tourism industry. Continue to be a leading Arizona business by providing increased job opportunities to Arizona residents, provide above average health care and benefits to our employees, while maintaining our commitment to job training programs and employee development. Continue to support and participate within key organizations that focus on job creation: UMOM; Tucson Hispanic Chamber of Commerce; Arizona Hispanic Chamber of Commerce; and the Arizona, Phoenix, and Chandler Chambers.
HENSLEY BEVERAGE COMPANY RESPONSE TO THE ARIZONA WE WANT GOAL 3 Environment and Infrastructure Protect Arizona s natural environment, water supplies and open spaces; as well as build a modern, effective transportation system and infrastructure. Hensley Beverage Company was proud to join Anheuser- Busch and consumers across America in their efforts to save millions of gallons of water for World Environment Day. Participants are encouraged to skip shaving for a few days or a few weeks leading up to World Environment Day in order to conserve water and, more importantly, send a message of conservation. (The average shave uses 3-10 gallons of water). Water management plans for all regions of Arizona statewide, regional and municipal. Policies that balance population growth with preserving open space. Of 14 quality of life features, Arizonans rate the state s natural beauty, outdoor parks and trails as its greatest asset. At Hensley, we are committed to fostering a culture of conservation, and doing our part to keep the environment green. We follow strict standards, and continually seek out new ways to operate smarter, and more efficiently - carefully considering the impact of our actions along the way. Our impact initiatives focus on four key areas: Water, energy, clean air, packaging and recycling - and we are proud of the steps we've made. Together, with our employees and business partners, we work to preserve and protect our natural resources for future generations - and to champion human health through environmental stewardship. Recycling all cardboard, shrink wrap, glass, aluminum, and white paper in partnership with Generated Materials Recovery Cutting down on our energy consumption in our warehouses and offices with sensor controlled lighting, energy saving ballasts, ecorenovations, and lower energy use batteries. Making the switch to clean energy sources like Compressed Natural Gas as fuel for our trucks Sponsoring Arizona Clean and Beautiful and participating in the Maricopa County Trip Reduction Program. Encouraging employees to live greener too, with incentives for carpooling, biking, and use of public transportation. Adding more hybrid and electric trucks to our delivery fleet. Providing recycling bins free of charge to participating sports venues. Support efforts to reduce air pollution and improve our quality of life. We encourage employees to share the ride to work by carpooling or vanpooling, taking the bus, riding a bike or walking to work. Partner and support organizations that focus on protecting Arizona s natural environment i.e. the Desert Botanical Garden, the Arizona State Parks Foundation and Arizona Clean and Beautiful Develop and explore new and innovative methods to reduce energy use. Advocate for policies that benefit Arizona such as restoring general funding to the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality. Monitor Federal, Regional and Global climate change policy discussions. Support the Arizona Department of Transportation and work on solutions to enhance our transportation infrastructure. Support new freeway systems such as The Interstate 11 Coalition.
HENSLEY BEVERAGE COMPANY RESPONSE TO THE ARIZONA WE WANT GOAL 5 Healthcare Provide health insurance for all, with payment assistance for those who need it. Hensley Beverage Company proudly offers several insurance and employee benefits including: Health Savings Account benefits, Health Fairs, Bi-Annual Blood Drives, and Health Screenings. Health insurance that is publicly available to all Arizonans with payment assistance for those who need it. Healthcare discounts for people who adopt healthy lifestyle behaviors. More doctors and healthcare professionals to provide primary healthcare services. Only 23% of Arizonans rate their community highly for accessible healthcare. Continue to work with other Arizona business organizations to provide and advocate for affordable health care and insurance methods to reduce costs. Hensley Beverage Company prides itself on our employees and their well-being. We offer competitive salaries and excellent benefit packages including 401(k), medical, dental, vision, life, and disability coverage and counseling services. Hensley supports Delta Dental of Arizona, T-Gen, Phoenix Children s Hospital, City of Hope, Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, American Heart Association, Scottsdale Healthcare Foundation, Banner Health Foundation and more.
HENSLEY BEVERAGE COMPANY RESPONSE TO THE ARIZONA WE WANT GOAL 6 Young Talent Make Arizona the place to be for talented young people. The Budweiser Shootout, an annual golf event, was created 23 years ago by Hensley Beverage Company to aid Arizona Latino students with scholarships. Since its inception, it has generated over a million dollars in scholarships for its recipients: the Arizona State University Hispanic Business Alumni and the Arizona Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. Quality jobs. More places where young people can gather. Protection for the environment. Culture of openness and opportunity for all. Only 6% of young Arizonans believe their community offers good job opportunities. 19% rate their community highly for its nightlife; 20% believe it s a good place to meet people. 42% of young Arizonans give high marks to the state s open spaces. Young Arizonans believe leaders need to be willing to listen. Hensley is a local first company that believes in keeping the important resources we have in our state, which includes our upcoming young talent. As we adjust to a new age that fosters outsourcing and a worldwide economy, we cannot forget the value of supporting businesses in our own backyard and doing our best to keep our young workforce here in Arizona. (As a member of Local First ARIZONA (LFA) Hensley agrees with their mission to promote, support, and celebrate a vibrant and sustainable Arizona economy.) In an attempt to attract young people to our company, Hensley has a dedicated Social Media Department that has created a visually appealing and information-laden website that showcases our unique work environment and the many benefits of working for a great company in our beautiful state. We offer new employees the opportunity for growth within the company, competitive salaries, workout facilities, pay for performance opportunities, tickets to sporting events, team-building activities, philanthropy opportunities and more. In conjunction with Chicanos Por La Causa, Hensley hires Hispanic young adults that come from different backgrounds and past challenges to give them a fresh start and an opportunity to make excellent part time wages. The program is known as SHIFT and has been part of Hensley s Culture for many years. Hensley Beverage Company also supports many youth organizations that give our young adults an opportunity to excel in life and the work world. Some of these organizations include: Boys and Girls Club; Boys Hope Girls Hope; Alhambra School District; New Pathways for Youth; and Valley Youth Theatre. We are actively creating programs that allow employees to have fun at the workplace (Ex: Activities during the annual Christmas party, BBQ lunches, and ice cream socials during the work day). We also offer the possibility of increased pay by offering product display competitions to earn extra cash, pay for performance increases and safe driver bonuses.
HENSLEY BEVERAGE COMPANY RESPONSE TO THE ARIZONA WE WANT GOAL 7 Civic Engagement Empower citizens and increase civic engagement. As Arizona s largest beverage distributor, Hensley Beverage Company and our team of over 800 employees, raise a substantial amount annually for the Folds of Honor Foundation to benefit the spouses and children of deceased or disabled veterans. More citizenship participation in all aspects of citizenship. Leaders who understand complex issues and work across party lines. 10% of Arizonans believe their elected officials represent their interests. 24% believe the next generation will have a better standard of living than we have today. Hensley executives take community involvement very seriously and lend their time to many organizations. Board membership includes state leadership organizations, hospitals, chambers of commerce, hotel & tourism, outreach ministries, education, human services and many more. A few of the more prominent board memberships are with Greater Phoenix Leadership, Phoenix Children's Hospital, Fiesta Bowl, both the Arizona and Phoenix Chambers of Commerce, Arizona Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Arizona Community Foundation, the Arizona Lodging and Tourism Association, Chicanos Por La Causa and Friendly House. Hensley is proud to support the O Connor House and its mission to create an Arizona where important policy decisions are made through a process of civil discussion, critical analysis of facts and informed participation of all citizens, and to continue Justice Sandra Day O Connor s legacy of solving important social, economic and political problems through civil talk that leads to civic action. Hensley Beverage Company is also a proud supporter of the Anti-Defamation League, supporting the ADL s comprehensive approach to fighting hate, including exposing extremist groups, monitoring cyber hate and providing anti-bias education programs. We are also actively involved with LGBTQ community organizations such as GLAAD; support the annual Martin Luther King Jr. breakfast, are active with the City of Tempe illegal/underage drinking task force, and are a big supporter of the arts in Arizona. Hensley will continue its role in civic engagement at all levels. Many Hensley executives not only serve on key business organization boards but also served as Chairmen to further efforts with diversity, legislation reform, charitable endeavors, education reform, environmental advancements, and community involvement.
HENSLEY BEVERAGE COMPANY RESPONSE TO THE ARIZONA WE WANT GOAL 8 Community Involvement Foster citizen well-being and sense of connection to one another. Hensley employees voluntarily contribute to the Hensley Employee Foundation, which in turn gives back to our community. Many employees also give their own time by volunteering through various organizations that assist children or those less fortunate. This includes the Big Brothers Big Sisters organization, City of Hope, and many programs during the holidays to feed the homeless. The company also hosts two large blood drives per year. A deeper sense of community connection. More neighborliness.. 25% believe Arizona is a good place to meet people. 37% believe they are treated with respect at all times n their community. We are largely invested in the state of Arizona as a community resource and partner. At Hensley, allegiance to our employees, business partners and the community we serve is always at the forefront of every business decision. Hensley s charitable efforts are well known throughout Arizona and include sponsoring and partnering with local organizations offering aid to children, elderly, homeless and less fortunate citizens, military, police, and many diverse populations in our state. This includes a strong 25 year relationship with the LGBT community. Continue our focus on giving back to our communities to create a diverse and dynamic state that helps meet the needs of our growing population. We will continue to give back to our military veterans and active members. This includes our partnership with the Folds of Honor organization. We will also continue to promote volunteerism by our employees, which includes participation in numerous boards and committees.
