1 Community Cultural Plan Letters of Support Below are a series of letters we have received from leaders of Boulder s community of cultural organizations in support of the Community Cultural Plan: The Dairy Center for the Arts NoBo Art District Boulder Chamber of Commerce Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art Our sincere thanks! 2 11/9/2015 Matt Chasansky Manager, Office of Arts & Culture City of Boulder Matt, Thank you for all the work you have put into developing a Cultural Master Plan for Boulder. On behalf of The Dairy, I would like to endorse your plan as a sound start in building a more robust future for the arts in Boulder. Please know that we will do all we can to support the plan you have laid out. We view The Dairy as a major success factor in Boulder becoming a true arts destination. We look forward to the many opportunities for collaboration your plan suggests and, at the same time, we look forward to the City increasing its support of The Dairy. As you have recognized, we cannot subsidize the arts organizations that count on The Dairy as their only performance and exhibit venue without support from the City of Boulder. While we endorse your plan, it is important to note that we do have one concern that we believe may limit the results your plan can achieve for Boulder. The budgets you have proposed for the next ten years are not adequate if Boulder truly wants to compete with neighboring cities from an arts perspective while also establishing itself as an arts destination. I believe the return on investment in the arts from a City perspective needs to be better understood in terms of both quality of life return and local economic return. It is important that you leverage this plan to aide in that understanding and help the City understand its support of the arts as an investment, not an expense. This is an exciting time for Boulder as the role of the arts in the vitality of our community is finally beginning to be recognized and your Cultural Master Plan is playing an important role in that recognition. With aggressive financial support, your plan has the potential to create a robust future for our community. Sincerely, Bill Obermeier Executive Director 2590 WALNUT STREET - BOULDER, CO BOX OFFICE: (303)
3 November 11, 2015 Boulder City Council 1777 Broadway Boulder, CO Dear Boulder City Council Members, The NoBo Art District Board enthusiastically endorses the 2016 Boulder Community Cultural Plan. We respectfully request Boulder City Council Members to approve and fully implement the Community Cultural Plan as proposed by the Boulder Office of Arts and Culture. The NoBo Art District, an artist-centric, grass-roots organization was founded in 2009 and based in the burgeoning arts district area of North Boulder. NoBo members include artists, creative endeavors and other businesses. NoBo hosts monthly events fostering connection opportunities for creatives and the community. Over the past six years, NoBo developed projects and commissioned artists to create and execute public art that expands connections within the broader community. NoBo forged strong collaborative relationships with city, business enterprises and the general public. The NoBo Art District sees the vision of the Community Cultural Plan as a foundational framework that aligns with our organizational objectives and community based activities. We believe the Cultural Plan will help increase access and foster collaboration among artists, creative organizations, local government, our neighborhoods and individual citizens in the community. Matt Chasansky, Manager of the Office of Arts and Culture and David Farnan, Director of Library and Arts have brought refreshing and robust leadership to their roles, skillfully working with the myriad of organizational and individual interests in our community. We look forward to a continued positive working relationship between the City and the NoBo Art District. We appreciate and thank you for your time spent considering this important decision. We ask the City Council Members to approve the 2016 Community Cultural Plan. Thank you for your consideration, respectfully submitted, November 11, Lisa Nesmith, President NoBo Art District NoBo Art District 1510 Zamia #102, Boulder, CO
