The Boilermakers, ranked seventh nationally, will make their seventhstraight trip to the NCAA Championship. The event will be held from May 23-26, on 's Scarlet Course in Columbus, Ohio. The best finish by a Big Ten team at the NCAA Championship was in 2003 when finished fourth. Purdue has won its last two tournaments and a school-record six events during the season. After winning the Big Ten Championships on April 30, the Boilermakers won the 2006 NCAA West Regional Championships in Auburn, Wash., on May 13. Individually, Purdue has won its share of honors as well. Onnarin Sattayanbanphot, who was named the 2006 Big Ten Athlete of the Year, is ranked No. 24 in the Golfweek.com individual poll. Christel Boeljon, the Big Ten Freshman of the Year, and classmate Maria Hernandez are ranked No. 28 and No. 38 respectively. In addition, Devon Brouse was the Big Ten Coach of the Year, his second such honor from the conference, with the previous coming in Live scoring of the NCAA Championship is available at FOUR TEAMS AND ONE INDIVIDUAL COMPETE AT 2006 NCAA REGIONALS Four Big Ten women s golf teams and one individual competed in NCAA Regional competition, with Big Ten champion Purdue advancing to the NCAA Championship. No. 3 seed Purdue ( ) captured the West Regional title in convincing fashion at the Washington National Golf Club in Auburn, Wash., winning by six shots over UCLA. Three Boilermakers -- Christel Boeljon (3rd, 217), Maria Hernandez (T-5th, 220) and Onnarin Sattayabanphot (10th, 221) -- placed in the top 10 individually en route to the Purdue victory. In the Central Regional at the Traditions Club at Texas A&M, Michigan State ( ) and Northwestern ( ) fell just shy of the eighth and final spot, finishing ninth and 10th, respectively. The Spartans were just six shots behind eighth-place Nebraska. Eighth-seeded ( ) placed 16th overall, while Michigan s Amy Schmucker ( ), who played as an individual, finished tied for 71st. Each of the three regionals, which consisted of 21 teams, advanced the top eight teams and two individuals in each region to the NCAA Championships. PURDUE AND NORTHWESTERN S KIM CAPTURE 2006 BIG TEN TITLES For the first since 2000 and just the second time in school history, the Purdue Boilermakers captured the Big Ten Women's Golf Championships, April Despite wet and windy conditions on the final day, the Boilermakers held off Michigan State and to claim the 72-hole title at the Indiana University Golf Course in Bloomington. The win for Purdue ( ) ended 's four-year reign over the conference. The Buckeyes ( ) finished second, six shots ahead of Michigan State ( ). Michigan ( ) placed fourth, followed by Northwestern ( ) and Indiana ( ). Rounding out the field was Penn State ( ), Iowa ( ), Wisconsin ( ), Illinois ( ) and Minnesota ( ). Individually, Northwestern's Alice Kim ( ) struggled to a final-round 77 and bogeyed her last hole, but managed to avoid a four-person playoff for medalist honors. Kim's win was the first for a Wildcat golfer at the conference championships. Michigan State's Sara Brown ( ), 's Carling Coffing ( ) and Purdue's Maria Hernandez ( ) all tied for second, one shot back of Kim, at 4-over 292. Michigan's Amy Schmucker ( ) placed fifth at 6-over 294. Tied for sixth at 7-over 295 was Indiana's Elaine Harris ( ) and Purdue's Christel Boeljon ( ), while rounding out the top 10 in a three-way tie for eighth was Indiana's Shannon Johnson ( ), 's Dana Je ( ) and Purdue's Myrte Eikenaar ( ).
