But there is no denying that the Tigers former head coach belongs in any mention of great collegiate coaches. Robinson, who retired after the 1997 season and died April 3, 2007, compiled one of the most impressive coaching legacies in collegiate history. He is one of only two college football coaches (see John Gagliardi on the next page) with more than 400 victories (408) and he coached in more games (588) than any other coach in the 135 years of college football. Robinson spent all 55 seasons of his illustrious career at Grambling (he coached two years during World War II at Grambling High School).
