3 Welcome from Cedarville University Athletic Director April 24, 2015 Welcome to Cedarville! We are privileged to host the 2015 Great Midwest Athletic Conference Women!s Tennis Championship. Thanks to each of you for all of the time and effort you have put into this season. We are excited about the competition that will be seen over the next couple of days. May God continue to bless each of your insititutions and be glorified by the spirit that will be displayed. We hope your time here produces some wonderful memories and provides a fitting end to your academic year and tennis season. Have a great championship weekend! Dr. Alan Geist Athletic Director Cedarville University Johnson-Murdoch Tennis Complex The Pamela Diehl Johnson-J. Murray Murdoch Tennis Complex serves as the home of the Yellow Jackets. The site is named after Cedarville!s former head coaches, who are both members of the NAIA Hall of Fame. The complex features nine lighted courts located on the north edge of the campus. The facility was opened in 1996 and includes a Latex-ite colorcoating and cushion surface. The venue has served as host of numerous tournaments. The list includes the Wilson/ITA NAIA Midwest Regional Championship, Mid-Ohio Conference Women's Championship, NAIA Great Lakes Men's Sectional, NCCAA Men's Invitational, NAIA Region IX Men's and Women's Championships, and the NCCAA National Tournament. Cedarville utilizes indoor facilities at Dayton Center Courts as well as the Five Seasons Sports Club in Kettering, Ohio. The Jackets also use courts in the Doden Field House on a limited basis. Johnson, who is currently the Dean of the College of Health Professions, coached the women's tennis team from 1977 through Her squad posted 280 victories and made 12 NAIA National Tournament appearances. The Lady Jackets won four NAIA Region IX titles, eight conference championships, and had 29 NAIA Scholar-Athletes. Johnson has served on the NAIA National Tournament Committee since 1985 and has been the national tournament director since Murdoch piled up 563 victories during a 29-year coaching career from 1966 through The Yellow Jackets were a dominant force with five undefeated seasons, 23 NAIA District 22 titles, and 23 Mid-Ohio Conference championships. His teams won 88 straight dual matches from 1972 through 1976 and had a best-ever 8th-place showing at the NAIA Nationals in Murdoch, who is a Senior Professor of History at Cedarville University, also served as the NAIA National Tournament Director. A plate affixed to the sign that has been erected at the south end of the tennis complex reads, "In grateful recognition of the Christian testimony and faithful service of Dr. Pamela Diehl Johnson and Dr. J. The spring championship swing around the Great Midwest Athletic Conference continues with the sport of women!s tennis this weekend as six teams contend for a new title. After hosting the G-MAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships last weekend, the campus of Cedarville University will once again host and welcome Alderson Broaddus, Central State, Davis & Elkins, Kentucky Wesleyan and Ursuline. All matches will be played outdoors at Cedarville!s Johnson-Murdoch Tennis Complex. As a contingency plan in the event of inclement weather, play would be moved indoors to the Dayton Center Courts. As the top seed, Cedarville earned one of the two first-round byes along with second-seeded Davis & Elkins and will await the quarterfinal winners. No. 3 Alderson Broaddus matches up against No. 6 Central State while No. 4 Kentucky Wesleyan squares off against No. 5 Ursuline at 9 a.m. on Friday. Both G-MAC quarterfinal and semifinal action is scheduled for Friday while the championship final will play out on Saturday morning at 10 a.m. Based off of seeding, this year!s championship could feature the top two seeds with their roles reversed. Last spring, D&E was the favored No. 1 seed and captured the G-MAC trophy with a 5-3 win over the second-seeded Lady Jackets. Cedarville (13-8, 7-0 G-MAC) has had four different G-MAC Athletes of the Week this spring, including Courtney Heydt, Maryssa Herbert, Kristen Heydt and Lily Schuler, in order. All four have recorded doubledigit win totals in singles with Courtney Heydt going 15-5 in the rotation. The Lady Jackets put together a perfect record in the G-MAC throughout the regular season and enter the postseason as winners of their last 10 consecutive matches. Davis & Elkins (11-9, 6-1 G-MAC) enjoyed a near-perfect run through the conference as defending champs, only slipping to Cedarville earlier this month. The Senators! Julia Hoehn locked in an 8-8 singles record while arguably playing each team!s toughest opponent, Hali Michael was 12-5 and the pairing was 11-5 in doubles competition. Jordyn Walker and Mia Fabrega each carved out five singles wins for Alderson Broaddus (5-9, 4-3 G-MAC) as the Battlers played nine matches this spring. Kentucky Wesleyan (4-10, 3-4 G-MAC) recorded three of its four wins in the conference schedule as Danielle Hadler paced the team in singles victories. Walker also paired with Nicole Martin for six of her team-leading seven doubles wins. Anchoring the lineup for Ursuline (1-8, 1-6 G-MAC) is No. 1 starter Roslyn Ng, who went 6-2 overall. She also added three doubles victories to her credit. 13 The Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC),was approved by the NCAA Division II Membership Committee in February of 2012 as a member conference and earned active status in July of 2013, after completing an educational assessment program in The conference began competition as the 24th active NCAA Division II conference in The G-MAC features both active and reclassifying members from Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee, and West Virginia. Charter members of the G-MAC included Cedarville University, Central State University, Kentucky Wesleyan College, Trevecca Nazarene University, and Ursuline College. The G-MAC expanded with the inclusion of Alderson Broaddus University, Davis & Elkins College, Ohio Valley University, and Salem International University as active DII members. The G-MAC, headquartered in the Indianapolis metro area, will sponsor 17 championships in as an active NCAA Division II conference.
