THIS CLINIC IS NOT FOR DIABETICS. If you have diabetes, diabetic neuropathy and loss of protection in your foot, MEDICARE PART B covers One (1) diabetic foot exam every SIX (6) months by a Podiatrist.
2 Nutrition Educational Program The Manchester Health Department is offering a two (2) hour nutrition class for four (4) weeks starting on Monday, May 7 th, at West Hill Congregate located at 10 Ada Lane from 2:30-4:30pm. Krissy Anderson a Community Nutrition Educator will do a one hour cooking class followed by a cooking demonstration which will include member participation and eating what is cooked. Topics to be covered include label reading, fibers and sugars, shopping on a budget, fast foods and saturated and unsaturated fats and much more. Maximum class size is 10 and REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED. Call the Manchester Health Department at (860) to REGISTER. Safer Options: Alternatives to Opioids for Pain Management On Thursday, May 17 th from 6:30-8:00pm, Doctors from Collaborative Natural Health Partners in Manchester, CT a group of Naturopathic and Osteopathic primary care doctors and acupuncturists are presenting Safer Options: Alternatives to Opioids for Pain Management at the Community Y located at 78 North Main Street. Topics to be discussed but not limited to are: Psychological methods like biofeedback and hypnosis therapy, along with mainstream treatments like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Benefits of physical therapy assisting those struggling with pain, helping them to strengthen their bodies and actively manage their symptoms, an introduction to aroma therapy, massage therapy, chiropractic treatment and herbs. Adult Vision Screening On Wednesday, May 23 rd from 9:00am - 1:00pm a Certified Adult Screener from Healthy Eye Alliance will perform vision screenings at the Manchester Senior Center. Visual Acuity Testing will measure ability to see objects at a distance and close up and visual field testing will measure peripheral or side vision for possible loss due to glaucoma. This testing will also benefit individuals wearing glasses to access whether the prescription is accurate. Exit interviews will discuss the test results and possible referral to an eye care professional. Please call the Manchester Health Department at (860) to Schedule an Appointment.

Kitty will briefly describe programs, answer questions and have contact information for specific government agencies that are most often involved with Seniors. Tierney for an informative session on pre-needs planning. Tom will explain the various pre-planning options as well as the many choices available when making these important family decisions. Operation: Stop Scams, Tuesday, June 12 1 p.m. Senior Center Cafeteria - Join the AARP Fraud Watch Network, The US Postal Inspection Service, State Senator Steve Cassano and other experts for a session packed with information about how you can protect yourself from the never-ending parade of scams designed to take your money! This presentation will cover the latest scams (scammers are always coming up with something new!) and how to protect your personal information. Therefore, during the upcoming CPR & AED Awareness Week, June 1 7, a reduced cost American Heart Association Heartsaver CPR for adult and child & proper use of AED is being offered on Thursday, June 7 th from 6:00-9:00pm at Mahoney Recreation Center located at 110 Cedar Street. Discussion will include ways to empower you and help you understand how to deal with chronic medical issues and live your very best life. Medical interventions and goals of care: cure, stabilization of functioning and preparing for a peaceful and dignified death will also be discussed. This question is asked often. Anyone can make an appointment to see the Social Worker at any time. Here are some common reasons people meet with the Social Worker: 1. Medicare-whether you re turning 65 and are new to Medicare or if you re on Medicare and need to take a look at your Advantage or Drug plans. 2. Health Insurance Under 65- the Social Worker can assist you with Access Health and explain the process. 3. Housing-maybe your home s become too much for you to care for, or you re interested in seeing what s available in the community. 4. Legal Questions- Although the Social Worker s not an Attorney, they can guide you to legal resources for any issues you may be having including debt related, healthcare advocacy, Power of Attorney, etc. 5. Probate Court -maybe a loved one recently passed away or you need information on Conservatorship. The Social Worker can assist you in these areas. 6. Social Security-maybe you need to apply for disability or are having issues with Social Security and need to explore your options. 7. Dept of Social Services Programs-perhaps you or someone you know is in need of additional services. The Social Worker can guide you through the programs the Dept of Social Services has available and can assist you in applying. 8. Transportation-do you no longer drive or are considering no longer driving? The Social Worker can guide you concerning alternate methods of transportation.
