3 Finance Despite continuing to experience significant operational pressures in March, the Trust was able to achieve its forecast deficit of 8m for the end of the financial year. This included delivering 10m of savings through the Financial Improvement Programme. Really important that the Trust met its financial plans - grateful for all the hard work that has contributed to this result. As we start a new financial year, the Trust remains in a deficit and we must sustain all the good work of the Financial Improvement Programme.
4 A&E expansion plans The Trust is awaiting the outcome of a planning application to expand Hillingdon s A&E department to increase patient capacity. Due to be considered by Planning Committee in May The proposal will: Add a new building extension on to the front of the main hospital building on Pield Heath Road Relocate the current Urgent Care Centre (UCC) Reconfigure the current Fracture Clinic space Relocate some of the outpatient clinics.
5 A&E expansion plans Improvement works will cost more than 2 million. The bulk of the money ( 1.5 million) was secured following a successful bid to the Department of Health last year - recognises that our current A&E footprint is too small for the volume of patients we see, making it extremely difficult to meet targets and manage patients effectively. Expansion needed and once complete will help the Trust to increase its ability to better manage patient numbers. Combined A&E and UCC were commissioned in 2013 to accommodate up to 350 patients per day. The department now sees an average of 450 per day and numbers can peak at over 500.
6 LEAN Working Trust is one of only seven trusts from across the country to be selected to take part in the new NHSI Lean programme. Lean is a well-established quality improvement approach to delivering services - seeks to streamline processes and cut out any steps that add no value to patients. Not about cost-cutting but eliminating waste so that better quality services, that deliver better value for money, are provided. Already successfully working in some parts of the country.
7 CQC inspection update The first part of the Trust s CQC inspection took place in March. Initial high level feedback - the 'must dos' and 'should dos' from our last inspection had clearly been worked through - this had been demonstrated well in some of our core services. Followed by an unannounced visit and inspection of small number of medical Wards in April Advised that they observed many areas of good practice in relation to well led and, in particular, good team working at the different levels. The draft report will be sent to us to review in late June.
8 Care Information Exchange Currently piloting a new system - Care Information Exchange (CIE) allowing patients to access their own health records from the comfort of their own homes. New online health document system that securely holds a range of patient information Can be viewed by all the healthcare professionals involved in a person s care as well as the patient themselves. GPs in three of Hillingdon s surgeries are currently offering the service to patients who are over 65 and have multiple health conditions, and over time the aim is to make it available to everyone.
9 Staff Awards Trust held its Annual Staff Awards celebrating staff achievements, dedication and overall excellence throughout the last year. Hugely enjoyable and successful event where the Trust recognised staff with between 15 and 30 years long service as well as in a range of other categories.
10 A Helping Hand The Rotary Club of Greenford bought a 7,500 portable ultrasound scanner for the Maternity Department the scanner allows clinicians to rapidly scan a woman showing potential problems with her pregnancy The Health and Safety teams have been donated three HoverMatts and two HoverJacks - inflatable mattresses designed to make moving and lifting larger patients much easier- 14,000 needed was donated by the Trust Charity Thankyou to DHL Foundation who visited the Physiotherapy Department to see the new equipment they have funded. The Foundation gave the Trust charity 10k to fund physio/gym equipment.
