1 Why not apply for a Rotary Foundation District Grant? (Formerly District Simplified Grant ) In under the new Foundation Future Vision Program, it is easy to apply for a District Grant, and there is more money available than ever before, in fact, a total of $40,000 for D9650. Decisions will be made at District level rather than by RI. Here s what to do: 1. Consult the D9650 Rotary Foundation Grant Management Manual for , (especially P1-2 and P7-9) which can be downloaded from the District website in the Foundation section, for more details. 2. Complete the application form, also on the District website, either in writing or on your computer. 3. Send to PDG Jo Wilkin by the end of October 4. Consult either PDG Ken Hall (Foundation Chair Ph ) or PDG Jo Wilkin (Grants Committee Ph ) if you have any questions that are not answered in the quite comprehensive Grant Management Manual. Just think of what your club could do with $4,000! 2 A NEW FACE IN MANILLA ROTARY On Monday 2 nd September the Manilla Rotary Club welcomed Brian Hutchins as a new Member to the Club. Photo: Phil Lyon (AG Cluster 6), Fay Hutchins, Brian Hutchins, Stuart Faulks (Sponsor) MUNA INVERELL 16 TH 17 TH 18 TH MAY 2014 As you see a date has been set. Letters for forwarding to schools will be completed in the next few weeks. This is just an advanced warning for Youth Directors and their diaries. The aim of MUNA is to build bridges of goodwill for world peace in the minds of youth as they debate and speak to a wide range of contemporary world issues. What do you need to be a host parent and what do you get from it? An understanding and caring nature and a sense of fun, A spare bedroom and a safe and secure environment. Kids are not essential, ability to talk to people, patience with language and cultural differences. No, you don t have to be continually entertaining the student, generally students are self-motivated. They bring a wealth of cultural variety to the home; they re-invigorate your Rotary self. They become part of your family and by extension you become part of theirs, if the student is a boy, plenty of carbs is always a good idea. If you need a break now and then, remember it s your club that is hosting, ask for respite, you should have a roster for the members of the club to have the student for a meal. A good alarm clock helps in the mornings. Remember you are the parents while the student is in your home. Don t be afraid to say No! Include the student in family events and outings. Members can take the student on holidays with them, provided permission is given by Counsellor. Keep the counsellor in the loop. Keep contact with student s parents overseas. The student is going to school and, even though the student may have turned 18, they still must attend. Alcohol, cigarettes, or any drugs, driving and dating are all not allowed. If you have any concerns at any time please talk to the counsellor, remembering counsellors can t fix a problem if they don t know about it. Signed two happy host parents

All clubs should have by now received an invitation pack for this event in the mail. This is our chance to help fight the battle and help those with mental health problems. It can be a fun night with little effort and as little as $2 per person to participate. Some ideas are; Hat parades, name this hat, mad hatters tea party, red hats in Rotary just to name a few. This isn t just a Rotary activity and clubs are urged to invite the community to participate. Glenda Barber

He said it s also important for the organization to speak with a consistent voice. Our identity must remain simple and be based on our core values. It must be clear and straightforward to both our internal and external audience. A Rotarian since 1974, Ravindran has served Rotary as a director and treasurer of RI and as a trustee of The Rotary Foundation. He has also served as an International Assembly group discussion leader, district governor, Council on Legislation representative, and zone institute chair. He chaired the Schools Reawakening project, sponsored by Rotary clubs and districts in Sri Lanka, which rebuilt 25 tsunamidevastated schools, benefiting 15,000 children.
