1 Intercultural Pedagogy Grant 101 (IPG 101) These grants are offered to faculty/staff who will lead a Winter Break 2017/18, Spring Break 2018 or Summer 2018 study abroad program. They are closely associated with the SAIL grant program outlined later in this document. Time commitment approximates 20 hours which includes, but is not limited to attending four (4) two hour workshops spread out over the course of the Fall 2017 semester. (See schedule below). A $3,000 discretionary award will be granted to participants after they successfully complete all IPG requirements. To successfully complete requirements participants must: Attend all four (4) IPG workshops and submit related assignments. (Please note that all four workshops are offered on one day, Wednesday, December 6, for participants who prefer that option). Choose at least one intercultural learning outcome for their program Embed intentional opportunities for students to engage in reflective, experiential intercultural learning while on the study abroad program Assess the intercultural learning of students in their program and submit a report that analyzes the learning that occurred IPG 101 participants will learn how to choose appropriate intercultural learning outcomes, be introduced to valid and reliable intercultural learning assessment tools, improve their understanding of how to facilitate intercultural learning during a study abroad program, and become aware of options for engaging in scholarship and learning of study abroad. 2 SAIL Grant Program Background Information 1) SAIL Grant for Study Abroad Programs <= 13 days in length (Winter Break, Spring Break, shorter Summer programs) a) SAIL subsidy (maximum $4,000 from International Programs and $2,000 from Department/School/College) awarded if the primary leader of the study abroad program commits to participate in and successfully complete the Intercultural Pedagogy Grant (IPG) workshops and assignments. b) Faculty/staff who successfully completed a previous IPG do not need to participate a second time to be considered for this SAIL grant. c) A secondary leader (faculty or full-time staff, only) may apply for the IPG if the primary leader has already successfully completed a previously offered IPG. 2) SAIL Grant for Study Abroad Programs >= 14 days in length There are two SAIL subsidies available under this category. a) The greater subsidy (maximum $12,000 with $10,000 from International Programs and $2,000 from Department/School/College) is awarded to programs if the primary leader of a study abroad program participates in and successfully completes the Intercultural Pedagogy Grant (IPG) workshops and assignments described above. Faculty/staff who successfully completed a previous IPG workshop series do not need to participate a second time to be considered for this subsidy. A secondary leader (faculty or full-time staff, only) may apply for the IPG if the primary leader has already participated in a previously offered IPG workshop series. b) The maximum award for the smaller subsidy without IPG training is $6,000 ((maximum $4,000 from International Programs and $2,000 from Department/School/College) 3) Exploratory SAIL Grant (for Summer 2019 programs, only) a) For a faculty member planning to travel to explore the feasibility of offering a Summer 2019 program b) $3,000 travel grant from International Programs c) $1,000 travel grant from department/school/college (a smaller program subsidy amount will be considered at a 3:1 ratio) 4) Successor SAIL Grant a) Offered to a full-tme faculty/staff member who will travel with a faculty/staff leader during a Winter Break 2017/18, Spring Break 2018 or Summer 2018 study abroad program in order to meet key overseas contacts and to gain experience with the program with the goal of becoming a successor to lead the program in the future. b) $3,000 travel grant from International Programs c) $1,000 travel grant from department/school/college (a smaller travel grant will be considered at a 3:1 ratio)
