1 Employment Support Services: NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde Area (Updated July 2011) Introduction This directory has been put together for healthcare staff working within NHS GGC Acute Service Division. If you took part in Employability and Financial Inclusion Training you may already have a copy of the directory. However, please note that this directory is an updated version (July 2011) and some of the on services has changed. The directory provides on employment support services for people who would like support to access/ return to and/or stay in work. Information on financial inclusion services and how to access them has also been provided for ease of reference. This directory is not intended to replace any services that you currently use but only to make the process of signposting or referring patients for help easier. How to use The directory is made up of three sections: Section 1: Services for people who are unemployed Provides about services for people who are unemployed. These have been organised according to where people live for easy reference In each area one point of referral for support has been provided. Where this is not available, on Scotland wide services has been provided. Regardless of where people live you can also refer them to the Scotland wide services if this is preferable i.e., Jobcentre Plus and Careers Scotland. Section 2: Service for people who are in employment Provides about services for people who are in employment including people who are absent from work because of their health. These services are available on a Scotland wide basis. Section 3: Financial inclusion services Provides on financial inclusion services and how to access them. Need more / advice? 2 Employment Support Services: NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde Area Section 1: Services for people who are unemployed Provides on services by local authority area for people who are unemployed and do not have a job to return to and who may be receiving welfare benefits such as incapacity benefit/ employment and support allowance or jobseekers allowance. 3 Section 1: Services for people who are unemployed EAST DUNBARTONSHIRE CAREERS SCOTLAND (Scotland Wide) Careers Scotland is a Scotland wide organisation that provides careers guidance and employability services to people of all ages whether they are unemployed or in employment. This includes people who are: Leaving school or leaving a job Returning to work after a break Wanting to change direction Wanting to do more with their current job They also work with young people aged who have left school but are not yet in employment, training, or education and adults who are not in work but who wish to get back to work. Careers Scotland Advisors can help individuals identify their strengths, find out about different careers areas, put a CV together and apply for jobs. Their advisors typically work out of local Careers Scotland Centres and/or secondary schools. How to make a referral? 4 EAST DUNBARTONSHIRE JOBCENTRE PLUS (Scotland Wide) Jobcentre Plus is an agency of the Department of Work and Pensions and is responsible for providing universal employment and job search support services to unemployed individuals living anywhere in Scotland/ UK. If your patient is working and needs support see page 14 for on support Jobcentre Plus can offer. Jobcentre Plus provides personal advisory services to jobseekers and unemployed people who need support to return to work. They also provide more specialist support for people who may need additional help to get back to work for example, lone parents; people aged 50 plus, carers and people with health conditions and/or disabilities. Disability Employment Advisors (DEAS) For people with disabilities and/or long term health conditions, Disability Employment Advisers (DEAs) can give help and support regardless of a person s situation. 5 EAST RENFREWSHIRE WORKER EMPLOYABILITY SERVICE To assist East Renfrewshire residents of all ages to identify the help and support they might need to find employment, education or training. 6 GLASGOW CITY GLASGOW CITY BRIDGING SERVICE The Bridging Service aims to provide health and social care workers in the city of Glasgow with a simplified referral route for all their services users who are unemployed and interested in improving their employability. Whilst a citywide service it is delivered locally into the 3 CHP areas: South, Northwest, and Northeast. The service specialises in providing employability support to individuals with significant and multiple barriers to employment including physical and mental health issues, addictions issues, criminal record and debt problems through a multi-disciplinary team made up of employability advisors, peer support trainers and access to financial inclusion advisors. The initial focus is to support individuals to build confidence and motivation and to develop the softer skills to enable them to progress onto more mainstream opportunities such as paid work, vocational training and further education. Services and support provided include: One to one support from a dedicated and named case manager Life skills development and life coaching Literacy and numeracy support and access to a wide range of learning opportunities College tasters and volunteer placements Financial inclusion support How to make a referral? 8 NORTH LANARKSHIRE North Lanarkshire s Working North Lanarkshire s Working is an employability partnership which provides a range of services for unemployed people, mainly through one-to-one key worker support. The service also includes a range of wraparound support services designed to address a wide range of barriers including: Health interventions provided by SALUS Money advice and benefit support Adult Literacy and Numeracy Access to a wide range of training and employment opportunities. 11 SOUTH LANARKSHIRE LANARKSHIRE EQUALLY WELL SERVICE The service relies upon housing, social and health services frontline staff in Lanarkshire encouraging unemployed clients, who are recovering from a health condition or illness, to engage with the service via a single phone call. The service is voluntary and the call is to a free phone number A qualified Occupational Health Advisor from the Healthy Working Lives team will provide advice about the clients condition and also, should the client wish, connect their call to a relevant local Employment Agency for further advice and support on their journey back to work. 12 WEST DUNBARTONSHIRE MAKE IT WORK KEY WORKER PROJECT Make it Work is the name of the employability partnership in West Dunbartonshire. The employability programme element of Make It Work is called the West Dunbartonshire Employability Programme (WDEP). The Make It Work Key Worker Project is an employability project within the West Dunbartonshire Employability Programme (WDEP). The Key Worker project provides advice and support to clients through dedicated key workers to ensure clients are linked into the most appropriate parts of the West Dunbartonshire Employability Programme. Key Workers can also provide one to one support to clients by assessing individual needs; any barriers to employment, and ensure that clients are supported to access relevant support to gain employment including barrier free and childcare funding. 14 JOBCENTRE PLUS/ DISABILITY EMPLOYMENT ADVISOR (DEA) (Scotland Wide) Jobcentre Plus is an agency of the Department of Work and Pensions. It provides specific support to people with health conditions or disabilities who are in work but who may need support to return to or stay at work because of their health. This support is provided by the Disability Employment Advisors (DEAS). The support they provide includes: Advice and and signposting to other services Help with arranging support from Access to Work which might be able to help with costs of things such as a support worker/ equipment needed to work/ the cost of getting to work if the person cannot use public transport. Referral to a Work Psychologist for a more detailed employment assessment to identify the best work or training options. 15 WORKING HEALTH SERVICE A national service aimed at helping people who are employed by small to medium sized companies (less than 250 employees) to stay in work and/or to make a speedy return to work following sickness absence. The services offers free, telephone case managed multidisciplinary support for the employees recovery, providing help and advice on a range of healthcare, employment, skills, housing and personal issues for example, debt management, ensuring access to the most appropriate forms of support for the individual. How to make a referral? Not applicable as this is a telephone based service Advise the patient to call the Freephone number which is operated by the Scottish Centre for Healthy Working Lives: Freephone Number: The call handler will ask some initial and as appropriate, transfer the call to the relevant case manager depending on where the individual lives. Who is service for? 16 Section 3: Financial Inclusion Services GLASGOW ADVICE AND INFORMATION NETWORK (GAIN) (GLASGOW CITY) GAIN is a Glasgow city based network of agencies that give free, confidential and impartial money and debt advice. It includes voluntary agencies, citizens advice bureaux, legal, housing and independent money advice agencies. GAIN can give advice on a wide range of financial issues including: debt money management benefits advice housing issues free legal advice. The advice is impartial, completely confidential and absolutely free and available to all Glasgow city residents regardless of age or working status. Services are provided throughout Glasgow call the helpline or go onto the website to find the service you are looking for and where it is located. How to make a referral?
