4 Introduction For every figure in the main report that shows the relationship between two or more variables, correlation between all variables has been determined. The data are ordered categories; therefore a Spearman correlation, which measures the association between rank orders, has been used. Correlation coefficients range in value from -1 (a perfect negative relationship) and +1 (a perfect positive relationship). A value of 0 indicates no linear relationship. The degree of statistical significance is shown as follows: * - Significant to 95% confidence ** - Significant to 99% confidence Where a correlation is not significant this means there is a greater than 1 in 20 chance that the relationship may be due to sampling error. This may be due to low overall correlation, or small sample sizes, for example where sub-samples are used.
