5 EU Research Framework Programmes main financial tool of the European Union to support research and development implemented since 1984 FPs are proposed by the European Commission and adopted by Council and European Parliament Consultation with all stakeholders in European research and industry

7 7th Research Framework Programme (FP7) covers 7 years: supports the European Research Area key contribution to the Lisbon Agenda simplified structure modified nomenclature

31 Intra European Fellowships (IEF) PEOPLE support to obtain independent researcher position diversification of competences, especially at inter-sectoral and interdisciplinary level OR: encourages a return to research/science for experienced researchers from EU/Associated State to EU/Associated State EU-funding for 1 2 years

32 PEOPLE European Reintegration Grants (ERG) assist in professional reintegration after Marie Curie action abroad (min. 18 months) in any EU or AC, including country of origin apply between 6-12 months before the end of the Marie Curie action EU-funding up to 3 years flat-rate contribution of 15,000/year to salary costs, other staff, consumables, patent costs etc.

35 PEOPLE International Incoming Fellowships (IIF) for experienced researchers from third countries funding: months, which includes 1st phase: months in Europe 2nd phase: 12 months in the country of origin (optional) optional return phase in the country of origin for researchers from International Cooperation Partner Countries EU-funded return phase can begin at the latest 6 months after the end of the first phase

36 PEOPLE International Reintegration Grants (IRG) Brain gain : Attract European researchers back from third countries experienced researchers active in a third country during previous 3 years apply with host in EU or Associated state research, training, teaching, commercial exploitation EU funding 2-4 years flat rate contribution of 25,000/year to salary costs, other staff, consumables, patent costs etc.

37 PEOPLE Key changes: Individual-driven actions PhD or 4 years experience at time of application (no 8 months rule) International Reintegration Grants: - must not be employed in research in a Member State or Associated Country at time of application - lived 3 out of 4 previous years in a third country (not 5 years) European Reintegration Grants: - Marie Curie Fellowship of at least 18 months (not 24 months) - fellowship can be up to 3 years (not only 1)
