2 Greetings from the YMCA of the ROCKIES Program Department! Welcome! During your stay with us, we hope you will allow nature to inspire your adventure. We offer a wide range of programs for everyone. The hub of the Program Department is called Sweet Memorial, a log building located just west of the Administration Building parking lot. If you have questions, comments, or concerns about programs, please come by or give us a call at , ext Sweet s hours are listed on page 8. Our friendly staff is ready to help you! 3 Helpful Tips & Tricks SAFETY TIP: Take photos from afar. SAFETY TIP: Don t feed the wildlife! EQUIPMENT CHECK-OUT: A variety of equipment is available for daily check-out at Sweet Memorial. All equipment must be returned at least a half hour before Sweet closes; check facility hours page. The only exceptions are board games and puzzles, which can be kept overnight. FREE: Basketballs, board and card games, bocce balls, cones, footballs and flags, frisbees, hiking boots, horseshoes, kickballs, puzzles, soccer balls, team vests, and volleyballs. DEPOSIT: Disc golf ($10 per disc). Ask for a map to our course. DAILY RENTALS: Day packs ($5), Kid carriers ($10), Microspikes ($10) Snowshoes ($10 adult, $5 child), Strollers ($5), Trekking poles ($5) DAY PASSES: If you wish to use our facilities and are not staying on grounds at the YMCA of the Rockies AND you are not a member of the YMCA of the Rockies or another YMCA, you need to purchase a Day Pass wrist band at the Adminstration Building or Sweet Memorial: $20 - Adults age 13 and up $10 - Children age 6-12 FREE - Children under 6 YMCA members who are not staying on grounds, please come get a free wrist band. CAMPFIRES: Due to the high risk of forest fires in the area, campfires are not always permitted on the YMCA grounds. When permitted, campfires are restricted to designated fire rings located throughout the property. Please call Sweet at ext to request a fire ring reservation. The reservation cost of $20 includes use of the site and 2 bundles of wood, plus you ll need to make a $5 cash deposit for a water bucket. Individual bundles of firewood are also for sale at Sweet Memorial, or at the Administration Building after Sweet closes, for $4.50 plus tax. 3

6 6 PROGRAM DESCRIPTIONS Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times Picture Christmas Ornaments Create Christmas Ornaments using pictures from the YMCA of the Rockies in D Snowflake Craft Learn to make a 3D Paper Snowflake or cut out your own paper snowflake. Animal Detective Identify animals and where they live around the Y grounds. We'll take a walk outside to find clues the critters might have left for us to find. Basketball Mania Play some fun hoop games like Horse, Around the Word, Free Throw Challenge and many others Bingo! Join other YMCA guests for an hour of fun and prizes. Boot Camp High intensity interval training workouts that includes strength training and cardio. Workouts can be modified to fit all fitness levels. Come for some fun and fellowship as well as a great workout! Broomball Played without skates, this alternative ice hockey game is fun for all. Join us at Dorsey Lake (Weather permitting) Candlelight Communion Service Ring in Christmas Day at midnight at our candlelight communion service. Chess Club Show up at the upper Library to see who else share your love for this classic mind game. Christmas Eve Service We have a fun, uplifting, and informal service for the entire family ending with the singing of Silent Nights with candles. Children s Movie A Disney Classic video is shown in the Maude Jellison Youth Library. Children s Storytime Join us at Maude Jellison Library for Christmas Stories and Songs. Christmas Finger Puppets Create crafty Christmas finger puppets representing your family! Christmas Coloring s Ask for Christmas Coloring s. Color at our place or yours. Christmas Cookie Decorating Bring out your design skills and decorate Christmas Cookies. Christmas Crafts Drop in for simple to dexterous crafty ideas. Christmas Memory Project Create a YMCA Christmas Memory project! Ask for a project page that lists various activities to do as a family while visiting the YMCA for Christmas. Take a picture of your family during the activity. Download page templates to create your project. Christmas Scavenger Hunt Ask for a Christmas Scavenger Hunt. Christmas Watercolors Adults as well as children, bring out your creative coloring! From simple to complex, join our staff in painting watercolor pages. Christmas Window Decorations Create painted Winter/Christmas window decorations to hang in our windows or yours. Family Archery This class is for families to enjoy archery together. For ages 9+. $5 fee. Sign up at Sweet Memorial Building or online. Friendship Bracelets Learn how to make different styles of friendship bracelets. Graham Cracker Houses Make a miniature Gingerbread House using graham crackers, icing, and candy! Knots Do you want to learn what a Half Hitch and a Bowline are? Join us as we teach you some useful knots! Little Explorers Learn about the 10 essentials for hiking before we head outside for an outdoor treasure hunt! Old Fashioned Paper Snowflakes Cut your own style paper snowflakes. Pickleball Play this paddle sport that combines many elements of tennis, badminton, and ping pong. President Theodore Roosevelt Hear a speech by President Roosevelt as he shares his passion for the conservation of the west. S'mores and Board Games Enjoy a favorite camp snack, S'mores! And play some board games with the family. S'mores and Christmas Stories Enjoy a favorite camp snack, S'mores! And hear and share Christmas Stories. Spirit Animal Adventure Do you know what your spirit animal is? Find it with help from our staff. We'll take a walk through the woods and help you connect with your spirit animal.
7 Spirit of Christmas Create a paper ornament to decorate our Spirit of Christmas Tree. Write your "Christmas Wish" and/or "What I Am Thankful for this Christmas" and/or "Christmas Good Deed" (what you plan to do for someone else during this holiday season). Starlab Join us in our Indoor Planetarium at Legett Family Youth Building to learn about the celestial sky. What do the stars look like to you? Survival Do you know what it takes to Survive in the Rockies? Find out what you'll want to know if you get lost and how Not to get lost. We'll find out what STOP means and types of fires you can build. Volleyball Bump, Set, Spike your way to fun. Worship in the Rockies It is the Fourth Sunday of Advent and all are invited to a great hour of worship. Come early and enjoy coffee, hot chocolate and tea, and breakfast pastries as we fellowship together before worship! FAT TIRE BIKE RENTALS Come by Sweet Memorial Building to rent a fat tire bike and ride around the YMCA! Adult and youth size bikes available. Bike rental includes helmet and a bike. 9 SCHEDULE OF ACTIVITIES Through faith based programs and activities, the YMCA of the Rockies Chapel Ministry seeks to create a culture that is spiritually engaging, safe, and respectful of all. 24/7 Prayer Chapel Need a quiet place to pray, reflect, or meditate? Dannen Chapel, entrance located on the outside northeast corner of Hyde Chapel, is open 24/7 for your prayer needs. When the chapel is being used for a special event, group, or wedding, a notice will be posted and it will not be available to the public. Prayer Tr ail The Prayer Trail is located outside between the Legett Christian Center and the Schlessman Executive Offices. Brochures about the trail are located in the mailbox at the start of the trail. Labyrinth - A Labyrinth is a spiritual tool, a path of prayer, a walking meditation. Our Labyrinth is designed out of stones and located behind the Museum. Brochures about the Labyrinth and how to walk the Labyrinth are located at the starting point. Take some time to walk the Labyrinth and enjoy a time of peace and prayer! Lawn Games Located on the west side of Hyde Chapel, there is a storage bin full of lawn games for your enjoyment! Feel free to play these games on the Hyde Chapel lawn anytime you wish! Games include bocce ball, ladder golf, yard darts, toss across, corn hole, bubbles, sidewalk chalk, and the ever-impressive JUMBO Connect 4! Please return games to storage bin when finished. A world in which all children are loved, protected, nurtured and able to grow up healthy. To educate adults in the community about how to prevent, recognize and react responsibly to child sexual abuse, the YMCA of the Rockies has joined forces with Darkness to Light, a nationally recognized nonprofit organization & creators of the award-winning Stewards of Children child sexual abuse prevention curriculum. 10 YMCA of the Rockies Chapel Ministry Advent Celebration Join us in Hyde Chapel on the campus of the YMCA of the Rockies for these uplifting holiday worship services and activities! Everyone is welcome! Worship in Hyde Chapel Join us each Sunday beginning November 29 and continuing thru January 3 in Hyde Chapel at 10:00 a.m. for an uplifting hour of worship. Hyde Chapel is beautifully decorated for Christmas, and our Interdenominational Worship Service will be filled with great music and the Christmas message of hope, joy, peace, and love! Explore what animials you might be able to see during the winter, like bobcats and coyotes. And learn about the animals that disappear from view like the Black Bear. And learn about past animals like wolves and Grizzly bears. CREATE A WINTER MEMORY Join our Hikemaster guides on a once in a lifetime experience snowshoeing in the Rockies! Family hikes run every Saturday and can be signed up for online. Rentals are not included, but can be rented at Sweet Memorial for $10/day. Day pass for non-ymca members $20/day per adult, $10/day per child. Private guided hikes include snowshoe rentals.
