6 GENERAL INFORMATION: One of the fundamental aspects of Military Academy of Land Forces (MALF) is its structured environment, which places high expectations upon cadets, faculty and staff. The rules that are a part of that structure are designed for student safety and for helping each cadet reach his greatest potential. A basic rule is to demonstrate a willing response and prompt obedience to the mature, reasonable, necessary, and lawful orders of faculty members and cadet officers and sergeants. All cadets are required to comply with the spirit of this rule. Attendance: MALF expects that cadets will attend all classes, parades, and closed weekend functions with the exception of excused medical appointments, family emergencies and approved college visitations. Absent Without Leave (AWOL): A cadet is absent without leave (MALF) if he leaves the Academy grounds or removes himself from control of Academy officials without proper formal authorization. For safety reasons, this is a serious offense. In the event a cadet persists in this behavior, the Academy has the right to refuse to accept further responsibility for him, and he is subject to dismissal. Valuables: Each cadet is given the means to secure authorized personal property and, is expected to be responsible for its security. The Academy cannot be responsible for stolen funds or the loaning, borrowing, or losing of money. Cadets are discouraged from having expensive or valuable articles, especially electronics and jewelry, with them during their residence at the Academy. The Academy cannot be held responsible for the damage to or security of valuables. Each cadet is required to register his valuables, if appropriate, with his company officer immediately upon assignment of his room. Damage of School Property Policy: Vandalism and damage to MALF property are occurrences that must be dealt with harshly. Cadets who cause damage to Academy property, buildings, and equipment through malicious, negligent, or careless conduct will be held responsible for their repair and replacement and could be subject to dismissal. When the cadet who is responsible for damages is identified, a charge slip will be signed by him for the amount of repair, and submitted to the business office. If damages are caused by several cadets, a prorated share will be assessed to each cadet involved. Uniforms & Ranks: Cadets will wear several different styles of uniform depending upon the event or activity. On most uniforms, cadets wear rank insignia associated with their position. Personal Appearance: Each cadet is required to keep his clothing and overall personal appearance neat, clean, and in good repair. Cadets will wear only those uniform items that are in serviceable condition and adjusted properly. A cadet will not wear another cadet s uniform having rank other than his own or with someone else s nametag.

7 Each cadet is expected to develop a sense of pride in his personal appearance. Accordingly, MALF requires that all cadets will be clean shaven, will have their hair properly cut and combed, shoes and brass shined, uniforms neat and clean, and all items fully buttoned. Alcohol/Drugs/Chemical Substance: Whenever it is evident that a cadet is using, under the influence, in possession of, or trafficking in drugs/chemical substances or drug paraphernalia, he may be immediately dismissed from the academy. Further, if circumstances exist to cause reasonable suspicion of substance abuse by a cadet, the academy will require an immediate substance abuse test. If the test result is positive, the cadet may be dismissed from the academy. Cadets who refuse to undergo substance abuse testing may be dismissed. Unauthorized Items: Alcohol, alcoholic beverages or mixtures; Ammunition; Arrows and bows; Baseball bats; Cookware and cooking items (pots, pans) Knives; Display items relating to alcohol, drugs, occult, death, etc. Drugs and related paraphernalia (including syringes, needles, pipes, inhaling devices, rolling papers, etc.); Electrical appliances (hot pots, hair dryers, corn poppers, electric heaters, electric; skillets, microwave ovens, electric heating spoons, electric blankets, etc.); Firearms of any type, real or imitation; Fireworks or explosives of any type; Medication, including over-the-counter, prescription, vitamins, supplements, and any other medicinal preparations. NOTE: Supplements may be taken through the infirmary or the Athletic Department with written parental consent only; Pets, animals, insects, reptiles, etc.; Pornography of any type; Personal Honor: Each cadet is expected to adhere to a long recognized code of gentlemanly behavior. Accordingly, a cadet is expected to not lie, cheat, steal, nor tolerate those who do. The honor code is simple in meaning, but it provides a basis for living for a MALF cadet. For its success, the honor code depends on the individual cadets.
