Also the boundary between the 1st Amphibian 'l'ractor Battalion and the 1st Korean JYlarine Corps Regimentol Comnat Team vras shifted approximately one thousand (1000) meters to the west for the primary purpose of gaining depth in the defense of the 1st Amphibian Tractor Battalion sector. At the same time, this boundary shift gave thp. left. battalion of the Korean I1arine Corps Regimental Combat 'l~eam a larger area thus alleviating what had been a crowden condition, 3. Ore;an1zat1on and construction of the Jvla1n Battle Position continues, It is estimated that these positions are now thirty-five (35) percent complete, The majority of the materials for this position are being salvaged from the Demilitarized Zone by unarmed working parties. 5 - &&lei Korean War Project USMC Sllb&l± if liji!si&flt!iijj 3/rjl J\ In accordance with certain terms of the Military Armistice, this Division was directed to construct a NO PASS LI}lli fence across the entire Division sector approximately two hundred (200) yards south of the South Boundary of the Demilitarized Zone. This fence is to be conspicuously marked for observation from ground and air for the purpose of prohib~ing unauthorized entry into the Demilitarized Zone. The 5th Marines (General Outpost), the Korean Marine Corps Regimental Combat Team the 1st Amphibian Tractor Battalion ~nd the Kimpo Prov!sional Regiment are the units involved withthe responsibility for maintaining, marking and patrolling those portions of. the fenee within their sectors. Construction of the fence has been completed; marking continues. " " 5. Information received from the Chief Naval Advisory Group, Republic of Korea Navy, indicate! that two infantry battalions of the Korean Marine Corps have become available from Task Force 95 due to the withdrawal of United Nations' troops from islands north of the Demarcation Line under conditions of the Military Armistice. The Chief, Naval Advisory Group, Republic of Korea Navy requested comments concerning possible augmentation of the Korean Narine Corps Regimental Combat Team \-r.l. th these battalions to fonm a brigade. This Headquarters recommended the formation of a second regiment of Korean Marines to be attached to this command and concurred in the formation of a brigade at such time as adequate service and sl~porting units can be trained and equipped. The matter is now in the hands of Eighth Army and Armed Forces, Far East. If the plan submitted by this division is approved, the second Korean 1-farine Corps regiment idll be committed on the left (west) flank of the Division in the present Kimpo Provisional Regiment and 1st Amphibian Tractor BattaJ.ion areas. Such commitment vdll strengthen the left flank of the Division and also perrni t the-1st Amphibian Tractor Battalion to be w.1. thdra,~,n from its sector of the :t-rain Battle Position and established in locations more suited to the development of mnprdbious techniques and training. 383 iii 2 ''',l_j,_!_

6 , ~ Korean War Project USMC SiliiUiT S8Cbll! li lil 0NIA!i@N ' 3/rjl A As part of an I US Corps program, a briefing was conducted by this Headquarters on 17 August 1953 for the Corps Connnander and Connn.anding Generals and certain staff members of all other Divisions in this Corps. The purpose of the program is to acquaint the senior officers of all Divisions with the terrain and defensive dispositions in each Division sector in the Corps. A thorough orientation was held in the Division War Room and from a commanding terrain feature centrally located in the Division sector. This was f~llowed by a mass helicopter flight throughout the Main Battle Position and General Outpost by which the group was enabled to view each strong point from the air...
