Curfew There is a curfew in effect for all Soldiers on the Peninsula, regardless of unit affiliation from 1 a.m to 5 a.m. Soldeirs must either be on their assigned installation, or indoors at their permanent, off-post place of residence. Prohibited Substances All 2ID Soldiers, Civilian employees and invited contractors are subject to the 2ID General Court Martial Convening Authority if they use prohibited Substances. Sexual Harrassment/ Sexual Assault Every 2ID service member must understand that sexual assault/ harrassment has no place in this Division or within our Army. We have a duty to create an environment of safety and trust.

4 KATUSA Korean Augmentation To the United States Army Wearing the same OCP uniform and performing the same duties as any other U.S. Soldier in the division, there are Soldiers who proudly bear the Republic of Korea flag on their right arm. Known as KATUSA, or Korean Augmentation to the United States Army, these Soldiers symbolize the ROK/U.S. friendship and mutual support. The mission of the KATUSA Soldier Program is to augment U.S/. Army in Korea with ROK Army Soldiers, in order to increase the ROK-U.S. combined defense capability on the Korean peninsula. The KATUSA Soldier Program is significant, not only because of the military manpower that it provides to the U.S. Army, but also because it represents ROK-U.S. cooperation and the combined commitment to deter war on the peninsula. After the Korean War ended, the KATUSA program continued despite never being formalized beyond an informal verbal agreement and served as a training base for technical MOS for the ROK Army. During this period, a KATUSA soldier would spend up to 18 months in a U.S. unit learning his MOS and then would return to ROKA to train others in his MOS. Following the establishment of the ROKA training center in 1963, such practice ended and KATUSA Soldiers began to perform their entire military service in the U.S. Army. In May of 1965, the ROKA Support Group was established at the request of the Commander of the Eighth Army, as a ROKA officer liaison group to administer the KATUSA Soldier Program. 6 Seoul Metropolitan City Public transportation is greatly developed in Korea, and subway is the best choice when unfamiliar place. On this page, we will show you some important spots using the metro Dongdaemun : Near Dongdaemun station, there is a large shopping complex for fabric and clothing. There is also a huge gate called Heunginji gate which is Korean treasure No.1. Myeongdong : Myeongdong is the Korea s best known shopping district, where the streets are lined with department stores and shops that sell brand-name cosmetics, clothes, shoes, and accessories.

Camp Red Cloud Camp Casey/Hovey Camp Casey/Hovey Jongro 3-ga : Near Jongro 3-ga station, there is a street called Insa-dong showcasing traditional Korean culture with antique art, traditional teahouses, and craft shops. Itaewon : Because of its location near U.S. Army Garrison-Yongsan, Itaewon is a naturally popular area for American soldiers to visit. This area is famous for its international atmosphere, antiques and tailor-made suits.

8 Other Attractions... Busan Haeundae Beach Busan is the second biggest city in Korea and it is a seaport surrounded by several beaches. At about 1.5 kilometers in length, it is well worth visiting in the summer as well as the winter. You can rent boats there and all possible kinds of water sports are catered for in beach proximity. There is a KTX, which takes about 3 hours from Seoul to Busan. Gyeongju Bulguksa Temple Gyeongju is one of the most ancient cities in Korea. It was the capital city of Shilla, one of three kingdoms in the 5th century. Its nickname museum without the wall will make sense to you when you see streetlights decorated in a traditional lantern shape. Bulguksa is the biggest and most popular temple in Korea. DMZ The Korean Demilitarized Zone is a strip of land running across the Korean peninsula that serves as a buffer zone between North and South Korea. This is only one of a kind which separates two countries. The historic importance sets in after you stand right at the divided line and face the north Korean Soldiers. Jeju Island Jeju Island, also known as the Island of the Gods, is a popular vacation spot for Koreans and many international visitors. It remains one of the top honeymoon destinations for Korean newlyweds. The island s mixture of volcanic rock, frequent rains, and temperate climate, make it very similar to the Hawaiian Islands in the U.S.

10 Getting Around in Korea Useful Smartphone Apps Messenger KakaoTalk is the most widely used messenger app in Korea. You can freely chat, send files and call using the app. Map Map is essential for travelling! There are various map applications, and Waze is one of them. Transportation Public transportation is an essential means of getting around in Korea. There are apps which provide information of subway/bus time and route. KakaoMetro supports English and provides information for subway. Delivery Food delivery is highly prevalent in Korea. You can even order a delivery for any kind of food you want using app. But since they only support Korean for now, you might need help from KATUSAs to order what you want. Call Taxi The closest taxi will accept your request and come to your location. AAFES Taxi also has on-post taxis. Since so many passengers use call taxi app, you might not be able to catch a taxi without an app, especially in highly populated area!
