2 BLUF plays a critical role in Mine Warfare Our support has evolved far beyond our legacy roles. Naval Oceanography is beginning to play a major role in mine hunting and contact management. Our capabilities are in great demand for both Maritime Homeland Defense (MHD) and overseas contingencies gives the Navy Mine Warfare home field advantage everywhere

15 Future Support to MIW 15
16 Future Support to MIW Considerations: Our UUVs and PMA can add capacity and capability to the existing MCM-1 SMCM Order of Battle. We can begin adding that capacity and capability to the Fleet today. We can (and should) also add capacity and capability to the emerging MIW Mission Module for LCS. Use of UUVs aboard SMCM platforms will break down the barrier between Very Shallow Water (VSW) MCM and the deep water mission the SMCMs currently perform. 16
