4 C. Membership Status Based from the charts below, the total number of new regular members of the National Chapters in 2016 is 219. However, as of 25 September 2017, the new additional AITAA members is only 78. 5 D. AIT Board of Trustees (BoT) Meetings There were two AIT Board of Trustees meetings held in Assoc. Prof. Dr. Somchet Thinaphong in his capacity as President of AITAA attended these meetings as Ex-officio member on 16 th February 2017 and 20 th July 2017, respectively. Notable Outcomes 16 February 2017 AIT Board of Trustees Meeting 1/2017 Assoc. Prof. Dr. Somchet Thinaphong expressed his appreciation for infrastructure and ecosystem that AIT is building and renovating and had some comments as follows: - Overall cost: how much will the settle of infrastructure and ecosystem be cost? - Funding: where would AIT get the budget? - Pattern: How permanent for the pattern? In this meeting, Dr. Somchet informed the AIT BoT that he will not continue for another term as AITAA President. 20 July 2017 AIT Board of Trustees Meeting 2/2017 Dr. Somchet informed AITAA Executive Committee that there was discussion on Internationality and Diversity which need to be redefined. 4
6 E. Executive Committee Meetings AITAA President Assoc. Prof. Dr. Somchet Thinaphong (WRE 1975, 1980) assumed office on 1 January He called for 6 (six) official meetings of AITAA Executive Committee after 45 th GBM on 19 th December 2016, 1 st March 2017, 9 th June 2017, 25 th August 2017; and another two (2) meetings on 4 th and 20 th October 2017 for GBM preparations at the Emerald Hotel, Bangkok. The agenda of the meetings were registration of the newly appointed Executive Committee (ExCom), AITAA activities including the upcoming Governing Board Meeting (GBM) in Taiwan, Golf Tournament, induction ceremonies of new AIT graduates, deliberations for the nominations for Distinguished Alumni and Honorary Member awards, governance issues and operational matters such as communications, budgets and financial reports, grant considerations, and other related concerns from alumni members. In addition to general meetings of the Executive Committee, sub-committee meetings were also held on several occasions. The table below shows the details of the ExCom meetings from December 2016 to October Table 1: Executive Committee (ExCom) Meetings from December 2016 to October December 2016 AITAA Executive Committee Meeting 1/2017 Notable Outcomes The main objectives of AITAA Executive Committee Meeting were as follows: - Plan for vision and mission for year 2017and to enhance alumni relationship and continual interaction of alumni with the institute and to enrich the integrity of the institute alumni knowledge - Discussion of AIT Board of Trustees Meeting - Discussion of AITAA Committee Registration updates - Discussion on the 45 th GBM in Cambodia - Discussing on AITAA website development - Discussion on AITAA Yearly Planner - Revision of the AITAA Core Values and Strategy - MOA between AIT and AITAA. Responsibilities of AITAA and AIT has been drafted 1 March 2017 AITAA Executive Committee Meeting 2/2017 The agenda of AITAA Executive Committee Meeting 2/2017 were to: 5
7 Notable Outcomes - Discuss the Report of Moving AIT to the Greater Next: Results from 45th GBM and AITAA Meetings - Updates on AITAA Registration - Discussion on the planned Dinner Talk - Considerations of the AITAA budget 2017 and 46 th GBM budget proposal for Taiwan - Opening of AITAA Administration Account - Discussion on the request of AITAA Support for the renovation of Korea House in AIT - Sponsorship for fund raising event, the AITAA Golf Tournament Discussion on report from the AIT Board of Trustees Meeting held on 16 February Review on the request of AITAA assistance to get PhD Gown and Hood of senior alumni to attend the AIT Graduation 9 June 2017 AITAA Executive Committee Meeting 3/2017 The objectives of AITAA Executive Committee Meeting 3/2017 were to: - Introduction of the new AITAA Assistant Program Officer and briefing of role and responsibilities. - Follow-up on the Report of Moving AIT to the Greater Next: Results from 45th GBM and AITAA Meetings - Follow-up of AITAA Registration - Discussion about the Dinner Talk - Discussion on the income and expense of AITAA Golf Tournament Discussing on Induction Ceremony for AIT graduates, considering budget proposal and AITAA alumni prizes - Discussion regarding the AIT Presidential Elections - Discussion on the AIT Innovation Lab s impact on AITAA - Preparations of action plan and budget plans for 46 th GBM in Taiwan - Updating the financial statement - AITAA Assistant Program Officers one child school fee was approved in the amount of THB 40,
8 Notable Outcomes 25 August 2017 AITAA Executive Committee Meeting 4/2017 The agenda of AITAA Executive Committee Meeting 4/2017 were to: - Follow-up the discussion on Moving AIT to the Greater Next - Discussion on the AIT Board of Trustees Meeting on 20 th July Preparations for 46 th GBM in Taiwan - Discussion on National Chapter Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) - Presentation and discussion of AITLega60 - Discussion and review of AITAA Yearly Planner - Discussion on the proposal of the Amendments of AITAA Bylaws to include Permanent Advisory positions - Updating AITAA Financial Statement 4 October 2017 AITAA Executive Committee Meeting 5/2017 The meeting was convened to review the first round of nominations for Distinguished Alumni Awardees (DAA) and Honorary Members Award (HMA). The committee deliberated the applications for the following sectors: Public Service, Business & Professional, Academic & Research, and International Affairs. Out of 19 applications received (as first batch) from the national chapters, 10 were selected to receive the awards. 7
9 20 October 2017 AITAA Executive Committee Meeting 6/2017 Notable Outcomes A second round of deliberations for the nominations for Distinguished Alumni Awardees (DAA) and Honorary Members Award (HMA) were made. In this meeting, additional awardees were selected. One nomination for HMA was accepted by the ExCom after its review. The names of the 2017 awardees for the above sectors as well as the Honorary Member Alumni will be conferred at the 46 th Governing Board Meeting in Taiwan in November The meeting also discussed the GBM preparations and related arrangements. The GBM agenda was reviewed by the group. PRO and Business teams presented their proposed plans to the ExCom and both teams will be given slots for presentation at the GBM Business Matters on Day 2, 4 November Among the items and plans discussed under PRO were as follows: updating of websites for Headquarters and National Chapters; creation of regular AITAA e-gazette; development of Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for AITAA alumni membership; extension of AITAA Membership other than AIT masteral/doctoral graduates such as certificate/short courses for 1 term/semester, undergraduate, etc. (as per AITAA Statutes these are termed Affiliated Members ; hosting of internships & job fairs in collaboration with AIT Student Union & Career Center; hosting of seminar talks; hosting of company/organization study visits; stipend for regular students; and service with cost plus model. For Business Team, discussion includes a proposal for a loyalty program to raise the profile and value of the AITAA ID card; joint activities with other national chapters; and disaster relief fund. ExCom agreed to present the above plans at the GBM and request for a resolution to some of the items & planned activities presented. 8
10 Notable Outcomes F. Completed Activities 3-5 November 2016 Title of Activity and Impact (Input to Individual/Member/Chapter/AIT/Country) 45 th Governing Board Meeting (GBM) The 45 th GBM was held on 3-5 November 2016 in Siem Reap, Cambodia. The AITAA Cambodia National Chapter hosted the event in close collaboration with the AITAA Headquarters. A total of 90 delegates, VIP guests and observers attended the event. The meeting was declared open by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Somchet Thinaphong, AITAA President. The meeting also honored the late King Bhumibol Aduyadej of Thailand by observing a 1-minute of silence to pay respects of the late His Majesty. This was followed by a slide show depicting his life and significant contributions to AIT. The President of the AITAA Cambodia Chapter, Mr. THAO Sokmuny, presented the welcome remarks and formally inaugurated the 45 th GBM. Guest of Honor, Dr. Hor Peng, Rector of the National University of Management, and President of the Public University of Rectors Association in Cambodia presented remarks. The Chief Guest, H.E. Youk Ngoy, Cambodia s Secretary of State of the Ministry of Education, Youth & Sports presented his address. Three (3) GBM Outcomes were as follows: 1) AITAA s Strategic Statements were resolved and adopted: Vision, Mission and Objectives 2) AITAA s Proposal for AIT s Strategic Statements: Vision, Mission 3) AITAA s Establishment of a Committee/Task Force to facilitate interaction between AIT and AITAA 9
11 Title of Activity and Impact (Input to Individual/Member/Chapter/AIT/Country) AITAA Taiwan Chapter will host the 46 th GBM in November 2017 in Taipei. The schedule, tentative program and logistical arrangements were presented to the Governing Board. A total of 19 Taiwan alumni were in attendance at the 45 th GBM. The Draft Minutes of the 45 th GBM in Cambodia can be accessed at the AITAA Headquarters website at or 12 December th Graduation Night and Induction Ceremony The 126 th Graduation Night and Induction Ceremony was held at AIT Auditorium with the gracious presence of AIT Vice Presidents, Prof. Sivanappan Kumar, Mr. Surendra Shrestha and Prof. Kazuo Yamamoto. AITAA Executive Committee members joined, congratulated, and conducted the induction ceremony to the new graduates. 15 December 2016 AIT Graduation Day On 15 December AIT Graduation day, Dr. Shobhakar Dhakal (EPP '96), Chief Advisor, Dr. Gregory L.F. Chiu, Advisor, Dr. Didin Agustian Permadi (EEM 2007, 2013), Auditor, Dr. Md. Zakir Hossain (AARM 2001, 2010), Public Relations Officer, Dr. Duminda Jayaranjan (EEM 2012), Business Officer, and Dr. Amornpon Changsupan (EEM 2012), Auditor, were the representatives of AIT Alumni Association (AITAA). 10
12 17 March 2017 Title of Activity and Impact (Input to Individual/Member/Chapter/AIT/Country) AITAA Annual Golf Tournament A joint fundraising Golf Tournament was organized by AITAA Thailand and AITAA Headquarters on 17 March 2017 at the Cascata Golf Club in Bangkok, Thailand. This tournament was originally scheduled in 2016 but was cancelled and rescheduled following the death of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej. In the midst of the challenges in organizing the event, it turned out to be very successful. This event was attended by a number AIT alumni, sponsors and friends. Outpouring of support and donations were received from Bangchak, BCPG, GUSCO, East Water & Universal Utilities Group, Khun Praphan Angpanitcharoen, Inthanin Garden and many more. Lucky draws, trophies, prizes and gifts were presented during dinner by the President of Friends of AIT (FoAIT), Dr. Subin Pinkayan (AIT Board of Trustees Chairperson and AIT alumnus), President of AITAA Thailand, Dr. Verapong Chaiperm, Representative of AITAA Headquarters Business Officer, Khun Utai Srimhai, and Khun Manus Supasiriluk, Secretariat of AITAA Thailand Chapter. Credit also goes to the ever-devoted AIT alumni, namely, Khun Chaiwat Kovavisarach, Khun Vitsarut Wongchoopan and team from AITAA Thailand, for FoAIT Dr. Chainarong Na Lamphun and Khun Chaovalit Ekabut and representatives from AITAA Headquarters: Khun Praphan Angpanitcharoen, Dr. Nattawuth Udayasen, Khun Wasu Ngamsom, Khun Chartri Asawaratanaporn, Khun Sutthida Muangrod, Khun Taweechai Termkunanon and Dr. Dacha Luangpitakchumpol. The event garnered a significant (gross) proceeds in the amount of THB 4.85M (approximately US$146K). 13 Title of Activity and Impact (Input to Individual/Member/Chapter/AIT/Country) 12 May th Graduation Night and Induction Ceremony The members of the AITAA ExCom joined the AIT Student Union and the AIT Administration in honoring the new graduates during the 127 th Graduation Ceremony and welcoming them to the AIT Alumni Association at the Graduation Night and Induction Ceremony in May More than 450 graduands from 27 countries attended the ceremony both at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Ms. Janette Lauza-Ugsang (HSD 1996) AITAA Executive Committee Public Relations Officer, delivered words of encouragement and advice on behalf of the AITAA Executive Committee. Like in previous years, the AITAA Headquarters has been instrumental in providing support to AIT Student Union in their student-wide campus activities. 12
14 Title of Activity and Impact (Input to Individual/Member/Chapter/AIT/Country) I. Re-establishment of the AITAA Australia Chapter 7 October 2017 marked the day when the AIT alumni in Australia convened a meeting in Canberra to re-establish the AITAA Australia Chapter. The Chapter was dissolved sometime in 2015 due to inactivity. Dr. Kamal Uddin (HSD 1996) was elected as the new Chapter President along with its new set of officers. The AITAA President, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Somchet Thinapong, declared the official re-establishment of the AITAA Australia Chapter upon the endorsement of the AITAA Executive Committee on 20 October

AITAA e-gazette The AITAA Headquarters launched the Inaugural Edition of the AITAA e-gazette, called, FORWARD à on 29 October This will be a bi-monthly publication of the AITAA Headquarters, featuring highlights and updates from our Alma Mater, AIT, and alumni all over the world, including activities by the National Chapters as well as appointments, promotions and other engagements. The AITAA Headquarters are calling for contributions from all AIT alumni in the subsequent issues. K. Chapter s Website, Blog or Social Media Sites The AITAA website for AITAA National Chapters news, events and other related information are available at AITAA Social Links In its efforts to improve the communication and connectivity among AIT alumni, the AITAA PRO Team has recently updated the website and Face Book page and opened additional social media link such as LinkedIn and Twitter.
