1 Illinois State University Alumni Association Board Priority s (Approved by Alumni Association Board ) Collaborate with the University on current and emerging initiatives and priorities Foster an inclusive, diverse environment that promotes cultural understanding and global awareness among alumni, friends, and students Collaborate with AR staff to release a listing of bios of each ISUAA BOD to the college deans and department directors Percent of bios collected from entire BOD Encourage and promote interaction and engagement between BOD and the University departments and student affinity groups 2017 Review of applicant pool to include various Promote diversity in our alumni awards programs colleges, geographic locations and affinity populations Ensure the board composition reflects alumni diversity including, but not limited to, graduation year, ethnicity, gender, college and affinity Review of board demographic report Provide representation to the University Honorary Degree Participation by board member Ensure that board meeting agendas include University information related to cultural understanding and diversity Review of meeting agendas Encourage participation of BOD in University events related to cultural and diversity-oriented topics / Assist with University s recruitment and retention goals through activities designed to attract prospective students and retain current students via alumni interactions Promote and encourage BOD and affinity/network groups to participate in recruitment/retention events when appropriate Encourage BOD attendance at the Alumni event to interact with current students who are future alumni leaders Revise Board Manual to include suggestions/expectations for BOD to attract and retain students, including participating in Admissions programs and activities that engage current students Documentation of BOD/Affinity & Network participation Updated Board Manual Include SAC involvement on BOD meeting agendas Review of meeting agendas
2 Collaborate with Alumni Relations on current and emerging initiatives designed to increase alumni support and engagement Develop and execute a strategy for engaging seasoned alumni (Age 55+), including planning the Half Century Club reunion Redbird Prime: Foster greater understanding, value and support for alumni 55+ throughout University community. Half Century Specific To Do s include assisting alumni staff in the following: Develop and refine concept for deployment Identify University partners for implementation Create identify and resources o Logo/seal o Web page/microsite with resources, programming links o Unique experiences/resources/discounts (virtual, on-campus) o Promotional, engagement articles/house ads for alumni magazine; video testimonials or State Your Passion stories o Consider how to connect, leverage within Half Century Club Half Century Club Reunion: Identify opportunities to identify learning opportunities, feature select programs and link opportunities for engagement to Half Century Club on-campus experiences. FY2016: Start-up FY2017 & beyond: refinements and enhancement Work with alumni staff, engagement of key university departments in design and delivery of new Redbird Prime concept including Development, University Marketing and sponsors of programming for seniors. Half Century Specific To Do s include assisting alumni staff and the Half Century with the following: Selection of dates Develop program o Induction o Educational sessions o Tours o Other Promote event o Save the date postcard o Registration piece o Magazine/online marketing Onsite logistics o Volunteers o Food and beverage o Remarks, presentations, speakers o Transportation, parking, lodging o Other Input and feedback from planning committee members; Evaluations from participants; Insights and ideas from University partners and staff; Growth in program attendance; Related donations and increased support to ISU.
3 Develop and execute a strategy for engaging current students and young alumni through Student Alumni Council and other young alumni affinity groups Promote and encourage members of ISU AABOD to participate with SAC activities. Explore possibility to develop standing liaison position 2017 Coordinate with AR staff to develop and provide opportunities for alumni to 2017 Listing of opportunities interact with SAC Recognize and engage our diverse alumni population through effective Affinity and Alumni Network development and programming Review network reports from AR staff to monitor, encourage and promote affinity/network activities and events 2016 Maintain current listing of affinity/network leaders contact information 2016 Provide written accolades to affinity/network leaders 2017 Report BOD events to affinity/network leaders 2016 Promote BOD attendance to group events 2016 Promote BOD attendance at distant geographic groups when traveling 2017 Encourage affinity/network groups to plan a gathering and 2016; List of participants participate in parade Participate in planning key aspects of activities, including campus decorating, Alumni royalty selection and preparing/staffing the Alumni Hospitality tent Provide information about volunteer opportunities in communications Identify and coordinate volunteers for campus decorating judging; Attend Faculty/Staff luncheon at which campus decorating awards are presented Solicit nominations from Half Century membership for Alumni Royalty; Review applications and select Alumni Royalty; Contact recipients; Crown Alumni Royalty at Alumni Day Luncheon Maximize alumni engagement by providing a conducive environment in the Alumni Hospitality tent for visiting old friends and making new ones; Identify catering and decorating options; Set up and tear down the tent; Solicit BOD to meet & greet students, alumni and guests; Collect alumni demographic information; Provide time for University President to speak 2016; Review of publication; sufficient number of volunteers recruited Successful implementation of activity Review of nominees; Successful identification of Alumni Royalty Successful implementation of Hospitality tent; Maintain accurate count of participants; Collect demographic data on alumni attendees
4 Solicit BOD to decorate tram for parade; Encourage all BOD to participate in parade; solicit volunteers for judging floats for parade ; Successful parade experience Oversee and implement an effective distinguished alumni recognition program Encourage nominations of eligible candidates that represent the diversity of the alumni population Meet with new DODs/College Administrators Continue to meet with Colleges/Departments/Development staff Communicate with networks and affinity groups to generate nominations 2016 Communicate with alums through social media and alumni magazine ; 2016 Coordinate an effective review and selection process Continue to evaluate the selection criteria; make targeted updates when necessary Review nominations in a timely manner and make recommendations for annual award recipients Evaluate committee member participation in the selection process 2016 Continue to evaluate BOD participation in the process, ensuring that engaged committee members are serving on the selection committees 2016 Survey subcommittee members about the process Survey AR staff and subcommittee chairs with sentiment analysis about committee member participation in the process. Specifically talk about these scholarships during the event ; enhance in 2016 Ensure we communicate about the scholarships at the event Scholarship Create posters of scholarship recipients to be displayed at alumni events Completed posters Scholarship Provide up-to-date scholarship brochure at key alumni events Review of brochure; Identify distribution points Scholarship Send thank you notes to individuals who have donated 2016 Report indicating number of thank you notes completed Scholarship Scholarship Administer an effective scholarship application and selection process Review application form and descriptions annually Evaluate selection criteria and applicant review rubric to ensure consistency in scoring Update application materials and forms available at designated times Availability of selection guidelines & rubric Scholarship Participate in scoring, interview & selection processes Scholarship Evaluate committee member participation in the selection process 2016 Survey AR staff and committee chairs with sentiment analysis about committee member participation in the process.
