1 NC VETERANS DAY PARADE NOVEMBER 10, 2012 LINE-UP # Participant Biography 1 Raleigh Police Car 2 Color Guard 3 Sons of the American Revolution "The North Carolina Society of the Sons of the American Revolution is a historical, educational, and patriotic organization that seeks to maintain the institutions of American freedom, an appreciation for true patriotism, a respect for our national symbols, and the value of American citizenship. The SAR does this by recalling the stories of patriotism, courage, sacrifice, tragedy, and triumph of those who achieved the independence of the American people. 4. FORSCOMM Band FORSCOMM Band 5. 50th Signal Battalion The 50th Signal Battalion (Expeditionary) is Commanded by Lieutenant Colonel Christopher M. O'Connor. The Command Sergeant Major is Command Sergeant Mathew I. Acome. The 50th Signal Battalion (EXP) is one of 12 of the Army s Expeditionary Signal Battalions, and the only Expeditionary Signal Battalion on Fort Bragg. Their mission is to provide rapidly deployable, secure and nonsecure voice, data and visual communications (C4) support during joint and combined operations anywhere in the world. 6. Richard NC American Legion Department Commander The American Legion, started in 1919 is the largest organization of wartime veterans with over 2.4 million members, stand on the principals "For God and Country" and The Four Pillars: Americanism, Children & Youth, Veterans Affairs & Rehab and National Defense. 8. Jerry Mangum NC American Legion Department Vice 9. American Legion Post 116 and Riders Commander and Division III Commander The Fuquay Varina American Legion Post 116 serving Veterans and the Community since 1922 Post 116 is the Home Post of NC American Legion Riders, being the first Post in NC to adopt Riders. Post 116 is very active with Veterans and programs like MMIA (Military Missions In Action), WWP (Wounded Warriors Project) and Toys for Tots. As servers the community with scholarships, delivering school supplies, stocking the food bank and scouting programs. 10. Boy Scout Troop 352 Troop 352 was formed in October of 1997 with the commitment to Leadership, Fellowship, and Service. We are chartered by the All Saints Council of the Knights of Columbus #9709, and are based at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Raleigh, North Carolina. 11. Tarheel Detachment Mostly WW ll and Korean War Vets 11a Capital City Young Marines The Young Marines is the official youth program of the Marine Corps League and the focal point for the Marine Corps Youth drug demand reduction effort. Its mission is to promote the mental, moral, and physical development of young Americans. All of its activities 2

3 12. Cubscout Pack 10 Cubscout Pack 10 from Holland's United Methodist Church near Garner, NC has been a community program for over 28 years. We are in the Hemlock District, part of the Occoneechee Council of Boy Scouts of America. Our mission is to develop young boys into young men and make it fun. 13. American Red Cross The American Red Cross Services to the Armed Forces program provides emergency communications between military members and their families. Volunteers from Red Cross chapters and Red Cross offices on military installations serve in 153 VA hospitals around the nation. It is their way of saying thank-you to that special group of men and women who answered their country s call and who are now cared for each day in VA medical centers. 13a United Stated Public Health Service (USPHS 14. Eastern Wayne Wee Warriors Cheerleaders Mayor of Raleigh North Carolina 2009 Pierce Arrow Pumper and 2010 Pierce Arrow Ladder American Legion Post 1 is a veteran s organization with more than 600 members. As part of the American Legion, Post 1 is committed to mentoring youth, sponsoring wholesome programs in the Raleigh community, while advocating patriotism, honor and a strong national defense. 3

Winding Springs Elementary School WE are one of 93 Chapters Nationally and Internationally, Most of us are X Military, Retired Military, and Active Duty. We Ride to promote the history of the Buffalo Soldier Calvary Units, to Support our Veterans, and promote Motorcycle Safety in the Community. Nationwide Insurance Miss American Coed Pageant System US Naval Sea Cadets is a youth organization sponsored by the US Navy League and manned by volunteers. Values are based upon the Navy Core Value of Honor, Courage and Commitment. Our goal is to instill respect, discipline, a love of country in America's youth and to help guide them along a path of responsible citizenry. Vietnam Veterans of America is the only national organization congressionally chartered and exclusively dedicated to Vietnam-era veterans and their families. Chapters are located across the state. The North Carolina Vietnam Veterans, Incorporated. These men and women proudly went to war for their country over forty years ago. Please give them the welcome home they so richly deserve. Marching with them are their brothers in arms, former members of the Republic South Vietnam military. Please welcome them as well. We have been in the parade in prior years. We have had veterans ride and we enter to celebrate our Vets. Winding Springs Elementary school cheerleading/dance team. They love to show spirit for our school & country. We are the super eagles. 5

Sanderson High School Band 39. Boy Scout Venture Crew Congressman Dave Price RTP Corvette Organization The Sanderson H.S. Air Force JROTC corps of cadets have been selected as an Air Force Junior ROTC Distinguished Unit for nine consecutive year -- every year since the award was created. Over the last eight years, 100 percent of Sanderson s senior cadets have graduated from high school and have earned over eight million dollars in college scholarships. Each year, Sanderson's cadets accomplish over 3500 hours of school and community service hours. Projects included color guards at home sports events, the NC State Fair, NC High School Athletic Association championship games, school escort and guide duties during open houses, Adopt-A Highway, tutoring reading and math at Green Elementary School, plus much more. This year, the corps of cadets is 185 strong Sanderson High School Band Venture Crew 75 is based and sponsored by the American Legion Post 116 in Fuquay Varina, NC. Cub Scout Pack 222 & Boy Scout Troop Michael Mihalik 1942 Army Jeep Cub Scout Pack 222 is in their 20th year, and is proud to announce Boy Scout Troop 22, which was formed just a few months ago. Both units are chartered to Macedonia Baptist Church. The cubmaster is Carl Sommer, and the Scoutmaster is Mike King. 43. Cary High School Navy Junior ROTC 44. Civil Air Patrol- Raleigh-Wake Cadets 45. North Carolina Operation: Military Kids Cary has been a Navy Distinguished Unit for the past eleven consecutive years, four time Best in Area (all of NC and SC) unit and the five time NC state champion Navy JROTC unit. The Commanding officer is Cadet Lieutenant Donna Supple and the Color Guard Commander is Cadet Senior Chief Anna Earley. The commanders of the platoons are Cadet Senior Chief Brian Schmid for the Armed Platoon and Cadet Senior Chief Nereda Rodriguez for the Unarmed Platoon. Raleigh-Wake Composite Squadron representing Civil Air Patrol an all volunteer auxiliary of the United States Air Force. We do 90 percent of all inland search and rescue missions for the Air force. Members are age We are the largest squadron in the middle east region. North Carolina's Operation: Military Kids (OMK) and 4-H programs are honored to continue the tradition in providing the more than 109,375 military youth and their families with program opportunities for school age, middle school and teenaged youth connecting them to support resources where they live. NC OMK & 4-H: Supporting Military Families in Our Own Backyard! 7

8 46. Cub Scout Pack 217 Cub Scout Pack 217 is Chartered by Crossroads Fellowship. They are heavily engaged in growing healthy, strong young boys into active, involved future citizens. The Pack meets on Monday nights at 6:30 each week, where they focus on teaching each boy to do his best and do his duty to God and to country. 47. Enloe High School Band The Enloe High School Band is proud to march in support of our community s veterans 48. NCMVPA The North Carolina Military Vehicles Preservation Association 49. USO of NC - RDU USO of NC - RDU Center Center 49a Piedmont Classic Chevy Club Piedmont Classic Chevy Club 50. American Legion Riders post Phillip O. Berry Academy of Technology We are members of the American legion and have a keen interest in motorcycles, we are the first American legion riders group to have formed in N.C. that was 11 years ago. Phillip O. Berry Academy of Technology US Army JROTC started in 2002 with 77 Cadets. The program has grown today to over 260 cadets with an on time graduation rate of 100 Percent 52. VFW Post VFW Post was organized in We welcome any veteran that has served oversees in a war time theater for membership in our post. The post meets the first Thursday each month at Gwndolyn s on Curtis Drive, Raleigh, NC. 8

Middle Creek High School Band/ROTC Middle Creek High School Band th SUSTAINMENT BRIGADE 56. Open Door Resource Center Inc. 518th Sustainment Brigade from Cary, NC. They will soon be making a new home in Knightdale, NC in early 2013 A non-profit organization that caters to veterans with classes, assistance with securing their benefits and housing. Veterans of Foreign War Post Veterans of Foreign War Post GLITZ THE CLOWN GLITZ THE STORYTELLING ENTERTAINING CLOWN FOR ALL 59. Millbrook High School JROTC - Wildcat Batallion The JROTC program is in its third year at Millbrook High School. Cadets work and study to develop the core values of leadership, citizenship and responsibility. Cadets are involved in a variety of community service projects around the Raleigh area. 60. Betty Lou Ward County Commissioner 61. American Airlines The American Airlines Veteran Military Employee Resource Group was founded in 2008 by American Airlines Employees. Employees hold office fundraisers and give back to the military community by volunteering with the USO, hosting bingo at the FAY Veterans Nursing Home, Military Appreciation Family Movie nights, cell phone collections and ship packages to the troops. 9

Disabled American Veterans Girl Scouts - North Carolina Coastal Pines serves more than 33,000 girl members 5 to 17 years old and more than 10,000 adult members in 41 central and eastern North Carolina counties. Woodrow Wilson Chapter 1 Disabled American Veterans and Auxiliary located 625 New Bern Ave, Raleigh and 1700 Hodge Rd. Knightdale. The DAV is made up exclusively of men and women disabled in our nation's defense, the Disabled American Veterans is dedicated to one, single purpose: building better lives for all of our nation's disabled veterans and their families. Providing free, professional assistance to veterans and their families in obtaining benefits and services earned through military service and provided by the Department of Veterans Affairs and other agencies of government. 64. Cub Scout Pack 399 Cub Scout Pack 399 is an active group of about 75 boys located in Raleigh, NC. It was chartered in 1992 and is celebrating 20 years in Its Charter Organization is Soapstone United Methodist Church. The Cubmaster is David Hodges and the Assistant Cubmaster is Ted Lowery. 65. Riverside High School Air Force Junior ROTC 65a Military Order of the Purple Heart Riverside High School Air Force Junior ROTC Al Meyer Chapter 637 Military Order of The Purple Heart, command by Commander Andrew Roberson. Riding with him are other members of the chapter Al Meyer Chapter cover Chatham, Durham, Franklin, Granville, Harnett, Johnston, Nash, Person, Vance, Wake, and Warren counties. 66. Charles T. 11 67. City of Raleigh Public Utilities Dept 68. Tarheel Challenge Academy Happy Veteran's Day from The City of Raleigh Public Utilities Department! In the parade today are Public Utilities employees who have served in the Armed Services. Serving our country, serving our community --The Public Utilities department provides water and sanitary sewer service to approximately 179,000 metered water and sewer customers in a service area of approximately 485,000 in Raleigh, Garner, Knightdale, Rolesville, Wake Forest, Wendell and Zebulon. Public Utilities employees are on our roadways and neighborhoods reading meters, working on construction projects, maintaining and repairing our water and sewer lines throughout the service area and they take pride in providing reliable water and sewer service to customers. Tarheel Challenge Academy is a disciplined, military style education program for at-risk male and female youth, ages who have dropped out of school or are having difficulty being successful in a current school environment. The mission of Tarheel Challenge is to redirect the efforts of young adults by providing them an opportunity to improve their life coping skills, to advance their education, to improve their employment readiness, and to become productive citizens in their community. 11

12 69. Star International Chapter HELPING HAND MISSION MARCHING BAND STAR Touring and Riding is an International Organization of motorcycle riders focused on family, fun, camaraderie and RIDING. As we ride with the emphasis on the fun, we take safety seriously and ride as to ride again and again. In 2001 STAR Touring and Riding formed STAR VETS. As one of the fastest growing segments of the organization, STAR VETS honors and commemorates the sacrifices of the men and women who have served or are currently serving their country. THE HELPING HAND MISSION MARCHING BAND IS ON OUR 30TH YEAR. EVERY YEAR IT IS A PRIORITY COMING TO THE VETERNS DAY PARADE BECAUSE WE BELIEVE INHONORING AND SUPPORTING OUR VETERANS. THE BAND IS COMPRISED OF 80 MEMBERS THROUGHTOUT RALEIGH. THE MEMBERS CREATE THEIR DANCE AN MAKETHE COSTUMES 71. Pack 332 Our Pack has been chartered by Our Lady of Lourdes in Raleigh for over 30 years. We have all ranks from Tiger Scouts through Webelos and also have a large Boy Scout troop. 72. Cub Scout Pack 347 Knightdale Cub Scout Pack 347, Knightdale, NC. Cub Scout Pack 347 is proud to announce they are celebrating 49 years as a chartered member of the Boy Scouts of America! They meet every Monday night at 7:00 PM at Bethlehem Baptist Church located at 8800 Poole Road in Knightdale. We would like to thank and acknowledge Mr. Charles Bullock of B & B Towing in Knightdale for supplying the military trucks the Scouts are riding in today for the Veterans Day Parade. 12
