7 A MESSAGE FROM THE GOVERNOR 5 Special Message from Governor David Y. Ige Presented to The Association of the United States Army Institute of Land Warfare May 19, 2015 E Komo Mai (Welcome)! On behalf of the people of the State of Hawai i, welcome to the Aloha State! A special welcome to our international guests and neighbors who are visiting Hawai i for this conference. We are honored that the Association of the United States Army (AUSA) Institute of Land Warfare has selected O ahu The Gathering Place to host its third LANPAC Symposium and Exposition. Congratulations to AUSA for the outstanding work you have done to bring together a stellar group of speakers to discuss how we can work together to enhance the capabilities of land forces through people, partnerships and products. AUSA has created an exceptional opportunity for us to learn and work together. Mahalo (thank you)! AUSA s choice of Hawai i for this conference is fitting as our islands serve as home to the U.S. Pacific Command and the U.S. Army Pacific. As the United States gateway to the Indo-Asia-Pacific theater, our state serves an important role in the pivot to the Pacific, from which we can ensure the stability and security of more than half of the world s surface area and population. This is a critical responsibility that Hawai i is committed to supporting. While you are in Hawai i, we hope you will have an opportunity to explore our islands. From the beauty of our beaches and Leahi (Diamond Head) to the historic Pearl Harbor, we invite you to experience the true spirit of Aloha. A hui hou (until we meet again). Aloha, DAVID Y. IGE Governor, State of Hawai i
