5 Defense Secretary Carter: Special Ops Force to Iraq to Fight ISIS Defense Secretary Ash Carter said Tuesday the U.S. military will deploy a specialized expeditionary targeting force to Iraq to launch unilateral raids and put even more pressure on ISIS. In his opening statement to the House Armed Services Committee, Carter said the "special operators will over time be able to conduct raids, free hostages, gather intelligence and capture" ISIS leaders. 13 2016 Defense Budget Partly Finished Almost two months into the fiscal year, the 2016 defense budget is halfway to completion. President Barack Obama signed the National Defense Authorization Act for fiscal year 2016 on Thanksgiving eve, allowing the policy bill containing $126 billion for Army programs to become public law. 20 Army Guard Sees Increased Training as Key to Readiness The Army National Guard is considering increasing the minimum number of annual training days from the current 39, Lt. Gen. Timothy J. Kadavy said at AUSA Headquarters on Nov. 18. A review of training days is underway as part of a larger effort to improve overall Army readiness. This Week in the Army

21 Troxell Named Senior Enlisted Advisor The next senior enlisted advisor to the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff is Command Sgt. Maj. John W. Troxell, who is highly respected for involvement in joint and international operations. Troxell is a 33-year veteran currently assigned to U.S. Forces Korea.
