1 From Headquarters REINTRODUCED CLAY HUNT SUICIDE PREVENTION ACT PASSED BY SENATE, SENT TO PRESIDENT FOR FINAL APPROVAL By Edgar Rodriguez, Director of Legislation and Government Relations On Tuesday, February 3, 2015, the Clay Hunt Veteran Suicide Prevention Act was overwhelmingly passed by the U.S Senate by a vote of The bill has now been sent to the President for final approval where it is expected to be signed into law. The Clay Hunt Veteran Suicide Prevention Act is named after Clay Hunt, a Marine Corps veteran who served in Iraq and Afghanistan, and who took his own life in 2011 after losing his struggle with post-traumatic stress. Unfortunately, with staff turnover we did not have historical documentation of previous membership card campaigns. We were unaware at Headquarters that Life Members previously had Life Member listed on their card. Rest assured that your membership status has not changed. On behalf of the entire staff, please accept our apology for this. Next year we will ensure this important notation is listed on the cards. The Membership Card Campaign is typically our most successful campaign of the year. By Megan Moloney, Department of Veteran Affairs It was the middle of the workday last fall when a colleague brought a gentleman to my office and introduced him to me as the past president of the Veterans of the Battle of the Bulge. Retired U.S. Army Colonel Douglas Dillard sat down across from me and we spent some time chatting. For as large as the military can be, I find that it can also be a small world. Douglas Dillard had fought in the Battle of the Bulge during World War II, in Korea and Vietnam and retired as a colonel. So had my grandfather. He was Airborne and worked in intelligence.
