4 1. OVERVIEW OF WORKFLOW Introduction to Fatigue Essentials 2017 Fatigue Essentials utilizes a navigation tree similar to FEMAP and other analysis programs. This tree is meant to be navigated from top to bottom. The user inputs the load cases, fatigue spectrum, material information, and then runs the analysis. SIMPLE FATIGUE ANALYSIS Introduction to Fatigue Essentials 2017 Let s start by taking a look at how to do a full analysis in Fatigue Essentials from start to finish. 2.1 PROJECT INFO The Project Editor allows the user to add details of who worked on the analysis. 6 2.2 LOAD CASES The Load Case Editor is the place where you define the stresses that your structure experiences. The order which you add them doesn t matter; we will choose how they are applied in the Spectrum Editor. Please share with your friends and visit us online at Page 6 of 20
7 2.3 SPECTRUM EDITOR With our load cases defined, we can now create a load spectrum for the fatigue analysis. The editor allows you to define your spectrum from load cases in blocks, and choose separate repeats for each block. In the spectrum editor you choose the total number of repeats for your spectrum. 8 2.4 MATERIALS LIBRARY Now that we have our load cases we can create the materials library. Note that after creating your materials, you can save the library to be used in a later Fatigue Essentials session. 9 2.5 CREATE ANALYSIS In the Analysis Editor you choose your scatter factor, Spectrum, Material, Units, Cycle Counting Method, and Retained Stress Pairs. You can also add the stress modification factors as desired. Please share with your friends and visit us online at Page 9 of 20
10 2.6 VIEW RESULTS With the analysis completed we can take a look at the results. The total damage is 0.83 which means the structure passes. Please share with your friends and visit us online at Page 10 of 20
11 2.7 HTML REPORT Finally, when you re satisfied with your analysis, you can write the results out to an HTML report. Please share with your friends and visit us online at Page 11 of 20
12 3. FATIGUE ESSENTIALS FEMAP PLUGIN The process for fatigue analysis with a FEMAP model is similar to the previous simple analysis. With the FEMAP plugin enabled your Load Cases are created from the output sets in FEMAP. Please share with your friends and visit us online at Page 12 of 20
13 3.1 IMPORT TO FATIGUE ESSENTIALS After clicking the button to select output sets and nodes you will jump over to FEMAP. Here you can choose the output sets and nodes which will define your stress details, and load cases. Please share with your friends and visit us online at Page 13 of 20
14 3.2 VIEW LOAD CASES After importing the selected load cases from FEMAP select Modify Stresses and Load Cases to view the imported data. Each node will appear as a Stress Detail, and each selected load case will import as a load case for that Stress Detail. Please share with your friends and visit us online at Page 14 of 20
15 3.3 SPECTRUM EDITOR With the Load Cases imported, the next step is to create the load spectrum. To keep it simple in this example we will cycle between compression and tension with 4,000 repeats. Please share with your friends and visit us online at Page 15 of 20
16 3.4 MATERIALS LIBRARY From this point the analysis is the same as what we previously looked at. We can load the materials library from the previously saved session. Please share with your friends and visit us online at Page 16 of 20
